The property was at described and well suited for our needs. I enjoyed using the kitchen to cook and thought it was adequately stocked with basic cookware. I also appreciated the variety of coffee makers depending on personal preference. The bed we slept on was super comfortable, which was great for me as I don't always sleep well when traveling.
We enjoyed our 3 night October stay. Being off season It was very peaceful, with some things being closed for the season. The cottage is as pictured. Well stocked kitchen, cute beachy decorations and a cute screened in front porch. Worth noting the step down to the 1 queen bedroom and a longer than expected walk to the beach. Enjoyed our short trips to Gillette Castle and some nearby lighthouses!
We enjoyed our stay. The place was cute and clean. Didn’t care much for having to bring our own linens. No direct beach access. Be careful there is a step down into two of the bedrooms. We had one person that didn’t notice and almost fell.
We absolutely loved this cottage.. It was very clean. It had everything we needed. We loved the area so much,, the surrounding residents were so friendly to us.. We would love to book again next year.Thank you for sharing your home..
There were no sheets on the bed or hand or bath towels, and although after arriving and double checking the listing, we did see on page two that no sheets & towels are described in the listing, we didn't see it. A major inconvenience to say the least! We did find sheets (of sorts) to use and I bought a cheap Walmart bath towel but it was no fun.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We’re sorry to hear that you were inconvenienced by not having linens and towels available upon arrival. We do want to clarify that this information is clearly stated in the very first paragraph of our property listing so guests are aware before booking. As is common with many vacation rentals at Hawks Nest Beach, guests are asked to bring their own bed linens and bath towels. We understand how frustrating it can be when expectations don’t align, and we always encourage guests to review the property details carefully before their stay. We appreciate your feedback and hope you otherwise enjoyed your time at the beach!
The property is situated in a relaxed, friendly neighborhood with an easy walk to the beach. It is well supplied with essentials such as pots, pans, chairs, sofas and TVs. We mostly did our own cooking, rather than eat out, and this let us enjoy the combination kitchen/dining table/living area without having to call to each other from separate rooms.Parking is right by the front door, and we also took advantage of the front porch and the small back yard.Beyond the details above, my wife and I were anxious to get away from the tension and hectic nature of the New York suburbs as well as the various responsibilities to our families. And the "Couples Retreat" performed as advertised. Soothing. Quiet. Relaxed.
Communication with the host was excellent. The cottage was cozy and so close to the beach. The walk to the beach was a little more than expected, as I assumed it was right across the street, but other than that, we had wonderful weather, and was able to bring my dog, so what could be better?
My family and I had an ideal stay at Kristine's beachside cottage. Highlights include a short walk to the beach, a well stocked kitchen, easy and efficient temperature controls and my kids especially loved the bunk beds! It was perfectly cozy and comfy for a family of four. We stayed here in April, but I can only imagine how lovely the screened in porch and back deck would feel during warmer months. 5 stars!
This beach house is absolutely perfect! So adorable and clean! It was right across from the beach with a quaint back yard and partial ocean views from the front. The rooms were so cute and the beds were very comfortable. The kids loved the bunk beds. This home was very reasonably priced and managed very well by Kristine. Kristine is very hospitable, very sweet and also responds quickly. Fantastic experience. We will definitely come back again. If you are looking for a beach house, stop looking and book this one!! Thank you Kristine for sharing your adorable beach home with us!!
This was the quintessential New England beach stay. My family and I had the best time at the beach and enjoyed every adorable detail of this cottage! Very neat, cozy, easy to book, safe community.
Awesome stay and perfect location for our off season weekend exploring Mystic aquarium and Essex steam trains. Hosts were very easy to reach and helpful. Across from beach, but you can’t actually access until you get to public beach .5 miles away, which was fine but unexpected. Also a couple amenities weren’t perfect, but totally would not affect my decision to rent here again. Very clean and updated! Loved it!
We stayed for the weekend to attend a wedding nearby and it was the perfect little cottage for a beach getaway! The place was very clean and so beautifully decorated, and the location can't be beat!

It’s a cute little cottage in a lovely location near a limited little beach with very limited access to it. We arrived in the evening after a long drive through heavy traffic and were surprised to discover that bed sheets and bathroom towels were non existent. We had never been contacted by the host, which was concerning, and only received the address and key code through a vrbo email. We called the host when we arrived and her tone was not the most pleasant as she informed us that the no sheets and towels was made “abundantly clear” on the vrbo site. We checked the site again and eventually found that information with some digging on another screen. We wish that in the confirmation email from vrbo, the one and only communication that came to us, the no sheets and towels information could have been included. We travel often with vrbo stays and have never encountered this before. The cottage was relatively clean except for the bunk bed in the children’s room where the bed was pulled out from the wall and a very dirty floor behind and under it was visible. Not the first thing you want to see after discovering beds are not made and there is nothing to make them them up with. In the morning the keurig coffee machine on the counter was malfunctioning and only gave an espresso after ten or more tries. We only stayed one night, but probably would not return or recommend it.
Adorable, beds were super comfortable, very well stocked kitchen and bathrooms, the backyard was so nice for the kids and the porch swinging chairs were so relaxing, the screened in porch was perfect for the cooler nights. Would definitely stay here again.
House was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The backyard is a quiet, private space to enjoy meals. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming.
