About Delwyn Barnett
I am a mother to five grown children and also a grandmother. I live in Taranaki, New Zealand. Interests are family, travel, gardening, pets and photography.
Delwyn Barnett purchased this Apartment in 1885
Why Delwyn Barnett chose Opua
Although I put the year purchased as 1885, this obviously is not when I purchased the property, but when my great grandparents moved the building to its current location at Opua. It was run by my great-grandmother, then my grandmother after that as a boarding house. In 1967 my uncles divided the property into five separate apartments, three of which I now own. My hope is that my children too will keep this property, maintain and value it as I do.
What makes this Apartment unique
I love the history, especially the family history attached to this old homestead and the Opua area.

Slice of heaven
Waking up to the amazing view each day is a great way to start any day. Thanks Linda and Kevin for making our stay so much more enjoyable.
Comfortable and relaxing
A wonderful location and a great place to stay. Sit on the porch and watch the boats in the harbour. Take the car ferry over to Russell or bike to Kawakawa or walk around the coast to Paihia. A great apartment with everything we needed, would highly recommend.
For us perfect accommodation in a perfect place
You could feel the history in this house, in the same family since it was built. Plenty of internal space and an exceptional view. In a quite location yet only a short drive to the local town. If you want to stay in the Bay of Islands then give this serious consideration. If we return to NZ then I am sure we will return here.
good place to stay
despite nearness to harbour very quiet, lovely period features in the apartment, great hosts
Opua is a good base for exploring the Bay of Islands and far north. The Twin Coast cycle way starts or finishes at Opua and Horeke on the west coast. Lots of water activities, boating, fishing, kayaking, deep sea fishing, etc. Most of these are based in Paihia which is 5 kilometres by road. There is a lovely coastal walkway from Opua to Paihia which takes about 1 1/2 hours to walk.
