About Delwyn Barnett
Mother and Grandmother living in Taranaki, New Zealand. Interests are family, travel and photography.
Delwyn Barnett purchased this Apartment in 1885
Why Delwyn Barnett chose Opua
Although I put the year purchased as 1885, this obviously is not when I purchased the property, but when my great grandparents moved the building to its current location at Opua. It was then run by my great-grandmother, then my grandmother after that as a boarding house. In 1967 my uncles divided the property into five separate apartments, three of which I now own. My hope is that my children too will keep this property, maintain and value it as I do.
What makes this Apartment unique
I love the history, especially the family history attached to this old homestead and the Opua area.

Lovely comfortable accomodation in a beautiful location.
Great find for us in Opua
Well managed property, great location away from hustle bustle of Paihia.
Wonderful place, excellent stay!
Wonderful heritage cottage, lovely to stay in. Would love to return.
Beautiful & relaxing getaway - in all kinds of weather!
This place is simply gorgeous. So comfortable, so spacious and with everything you need to enjoy your stay. You step inside and really feel like slowing down your pace of life. Opua is very laid-back and a great place from which to explore the surrounds. We had all sorts of weather - from severe stormy gales to beautiful still blue mornings - and the apartment felt snug and sturdy. Often with older dwellings there's lots of creaks and noises, but our apartment felt so secure that we could really enjoy all it had to offer. Would love to stay again.
Lovely location lovely accommodation
Really enjoyed our stay at the villa unit! It had everything we needed and was spacious and it was so close to everything. Opua is a lovely location and the view from the unit is spectacular! Lyn and Kevin were fantastic onsite hosts very warm and welcoming. Can’t wait to come back again. Thank you!
Opua is a good base for exploring the Bay of Islands and far north. The Twin Coast cycle way starts or finishes at Opua and Horeke on the west coast. Lots of water activities, boating, fishing, kayaking, deep sea fishing, etc. Most of these are based in Paihia which is 5 kilometres by road. There is a lovely coastal walkway from Opua to Paihia which takes about 1 1/2 hours to walk.
