it’s a cute little house on the beach, not much more you can ask for. it’s a bit quirky which made it fun to walk through, and made my stay more interesting. my only issue was that the shower was a little too small for me, but overall it was a wonderful stay and i highly recommend it.
The house was small and cozy, we all had comfortable beds and the kitchen has all the supplies you would need. From there, you can drive north, west or east and have lots of amazing nature attractions within a 30 min - 2 hour drive, to the south there is the atlantic ocean where you can take a nice evening walk.
At first, we thought the pipes in the house were broken or dirty, because of the smell. We quickly learned that hot water naturally smells like sulfur in Iceland. 😁
Thank you Haraldur!
Four of us (2 married couples) stayed here in early June of 2019. Entry is gained by a key located in a lock box when you arrive. We communicated with the owner via VRBO messaging & he provided his phone number inside the house.
He is very responsive. As other travelers have said, it does remind you of a trip to Grandma's, but that will actually became part of the charm of this place. It is warm & comfortable. The beds were comfortable. Down filled duvets were provided. Linens provided for a fee. Wi-Fi is available. There is plenty of seating. The kitchen is eat-in & there is also an small antique dining table in the front room. The property is pretty much an hour away from most of the "hot spots" in South Iceland, so it made for a good home base.
About 10 minutes up the road in Selfoss you will find the larger grocery stores (Bonus, Kronan & Netto.) The store across the street also offers a pretty good selection, too & the prices weren't far off from Bonus for milk, bread, etc. If you do choose Eyrarbakki be sure to allow time to check out "The Merchant's House" museum which includes about 5 sites, including the Eyrarbakki Maritime museum.
On our last night here we splurged on a meal at the Rauda House (The Red House) restaurant. If you consider yourself a gastrophile you have got to go!
Overall, this is a great choice for a South Iceland vacation.
Kleines altes schnuckliges Haus, alles was man braucht vorhanden.
We had a lovely stay in the house, we enjoyed doing some cooking in the kitchen, which saved us from spending lots of money eating out every day.
The location was great for us, only 45min to Reykjavik and good for the golden circle too.
Would definitely stay again, when we return to Iceland.
We had a lovely stay in this cozy home! Everything went very smoothly and we loved the little town this cottage is in. The beds were very comfortable and it was a warm place to come back to after exploring the incredible Icelandic countryside.
The house is well laid out with many comfortable sitting chairs. As mentioned by others the stairs to the second floor can be a challenge if you are not steady. Especially coming done the stairs. But the upstairs is very nice with a sitting room and separate bedroom. Both the upstairs and downstairs sitting rooms have TV and media players but having not used them, can't speak to their quality. Wifi worked well. Parking for 1 car. Gas station across the street with small store. Front of house is directly on sidewalk but foot traffic is light and not a bother. Small backyard.
A washer is located in the bathroom but no dryer. A portable drying rack is stored in a closet that works well. Small stove/oven that worked well. Refrigerator is small and seemed a little difficult to control temperature wise, either too cold or not cold enough.
For exploring the southern part of Iceland it is very nicely located and priced reasonably.
All things considered, a very nice accommodation for small group. Would stay there again. Just mind the stairs.
Fantastic stay, close to anything in the south-east, perfect base.
Perfect for us, family with adult children, 49, 48, 21, 20.
Warm, welcoming and calm after full days of driving and activities, place to relax and recharge. Had everything.
Close to anything in the south-west of Iceland, including the "Golden Circle".
Across the street a small convenient store with all the basics, open 10-20. Nice restaurant "The red house" with a great lunch offer, dinner possibility as well.
