This cozy cottage was exactly like the description. Helga was an amazing host and we loved the little treat that was left for us. There was no issue when it came to communication and we would booked this again and again.
Pre-trip communication with Helga was excellent! She provided some restaurant options, two of which we tried and they were very good. The cottage was easily located and is very unique, both inside and outside.
Some nice touches were washcloths, a hairdryer, and fresh Icelandic bread.
Improvements could be made, though, on the following:
The shower doors didn't close entirely, so water leaked outside of it. The drain had a sharp rubber piece sticking up which hurt when stepped on. Shampoo and soap dispensers weren't filled.
Our 31-year-old son slept in the loft which was very small and somewhat claustrophobic. We strongly recommend installing a carpet runner or railing on those steep stairs. They seemed dangerous to all of us.
In the bedroom, there's no room at the foot of the beds so you must climb over the person sleeping on the outside bed. I opted to sleep on the bed in the main living area.
We basically arose early, usually stopping at Amari Bakari every morning. Most nights we didn’t get back till 9:30-11:00 P.M., good place to launch from, especially things close to Reykjavik and the Golden Circle. A lot of driving to places like Hofn and the Glacier experiences . Over all a good stay for us, a little small for us, but worked fine!!
We only had a couple days in Iceland, and this cabin was the perfect place to get some rest from jet lag and then explore the coast. Conveniently located, host was excellent, and Hveragerdi was very enjoyable (great pizza, nice local bar, kind locals). Would definitely book again!
Our experience here was great. The cottage is really nice and has everything you need after a day of sight seeing. I didn’t go to Iceland to sit inside all day but the beds are comfortable, the showers were clean and hot, and the host Helga is a wonderful person. She came over and gave us lots of helpful tips of things to do with the kids. I liked the location because it’s away from the city. I liked this because I was able to meet locals and get to know the area. Icelanders are extremely friendly and helpful, I definitely want to go back.
Beautiful space and well laid out for a family. Great location if you’re looking for hiking and Hot Springs also close enough to Reykjavik for day trips- and all the amazing sites on the golden circle. Fabulous host!
The property is exactly as described so no surprises there. Our only issue was that a couple of repairs need to be made (bathroom door & hot water kettle). We needed some extra regular pillow covers (but we did not call the property manager for this).
The cabin is very quaint, in an outstanding location, and the area is so very quiet you feel as though you are the only one in the area.
Great location and would rent again.
Great location to explore Thingvellir and in a town filled with green house and hot springs! Helga was very responsive and quick to resolve any conflicts.
The house is located on the property of another house, which I couldn't tell from the photos but it's explained in the host video.
I stayed for two nights and enjoyed how close everything was as far as groceries, gas, a delicious local bakery, a few restaurants, several popular hot spring areas, and of course, the Golden Circle route.
The host was very communicative and flexible, which I am always grateful for. I would certainly stay here again.

Good for Short Stay
The pics of the property are exceptionally well done. The home looks spacious in a woodsy setting. It’s actually very small, offering a full bed in a studio apartment setting that includes an efficiency kitchen, very large table and small couch, and a separate bedroom that fits a double bed and not much else. There’s very little unpacking room and a teeny-tiny bathroom. There may be a loft bedroom but it was sealed up and seemed to primarily be used for storage. Not what we needed for 4 adults. The setting was unexpected-it’s literally in a suburban back yard-with the windows of the rental directly facing the windows of owners home. We were forced to close the blinds for the entire stay to avoid being on constant display. This might be right for a couple with fewer inhibitions, but was not comfortable for 4 adults including my daughter and her fiancé.
Cottage was in a nice location and clean. Kitchenette was adequate. Was a little too small for our family of 4 with two teens, but would likely be fine for fewer people or younger kids. Easy check-in and orientation video from host. Parking available at residence.
This is a very cute and cozy wood cottage in a fun town. The Owner was very good about communicating with us. The cottage was clean and very well stocked. Very close to Highway 1. You will enjoy your stay here!
Very nice cottage with so many things to do nearby! Helga’s cottage was exactly as described. All the amenities a person might need for a several-day stay. Easy to access and the instructions for arrival/departure were very clear. When visiting the Golden Circle- stay here!
This cabin a small unit in the backyard of someone's home. It is everything that is promised and the unit was clean and well cared for. Just be aware it is in a residential area.

About the host
Hosted by Helga Marin
I am an inspirational speaker, life coach, health and wellness coach and a teacher and my purpose in life is to inspire people to unleash their full potential and become the best versions of themselves. I inherited the cottage along with the property it was built on 4 years ago and I have been renting it out ever since. My goal is to provide my guests with an authentic Icelandic experience and I do my best to meet all their requirements. I have met people from all over the world which has been wonderful. I even married my first guest who stayed at my house summer 2015.
Why they chose this property
The main house on the property was built by my grandmother who was also the first woman to drive a car and a motorcycle in Iceland. She was a remarkable woman who faught for women's rights and was driven to help people whenever she could. She was a midwife and the head of the midwife association in Reykjavik. She originally built the main house for the midwifes but later the house became a summerhouse for the family. After her passing, my mother inherited the main house and she and my father built the cottage in the garden. It was originally built for guests that came to visit the family during holidays.
What makes this property unique
The cottage is cozy and spacious and is equipped with everything one needs for a comfortable stay. It is very peaceful and quiet here which my guests greatly appreciate. Hveragerdi is a beautiful small town and you are surrounded by beautiful nature. There are many hiking and walking trails that those who are interested can enjoy. We also have an amazing swimming pool and one of the best natural hot spring in Iceland you can enjoy swimming in all year around. Our goal is to meet our guests requirements so that they can have a wonderful stay.
