Adjacent to this area is an outside bedroom with a king size bed and a king single bed. There is a loo adjacent, but not a full bathroom. There is an extra charge for this room. Perfect for our group of families in HB for an event. Great character house, would be wonderful to have a full weeks holiday here in summer with the grounds and pool.
Amazing house with lots of room for activities. One bedroom is semi attached to one of the others which is nice to have the kids close if need beThe owner is nice but he does visit unannounced often. The pool was great.
Large house - ideal for extended family / large group, with beautiful gardens in a very tranquil setting, just a short drive from beautiful Havlock North. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and exploring the surrounding area, TeMata Peak, Ocean Beach, Napier and the local vineyards.
Had a great stay with our Marching team of 10 for a weekend compeition.
The check in process was a bit clunky but we got there in the end with Denis.
Thank you for the stay.
Our group of 13 family members thoroughly loved this house. It was so roomy for our group and well equipped. House was very clean, we just loved it. We made use of the po every opportunity we could. Thank you so much and we will back
Loved the beautiful house, grounds and facilities - needed some dish cloths but otherwise perfect. Would prefer if we didn’t have anyone calling around when we are actually staying there - we like our privacy but otherwise a beautiful home
We were a family of 13 adults uniting from world wide locations. This house enabled us all to have our own privacy whilst being together in the remarkable dining /sitting room space which easily accommodated 25 people we had for a birthday feast. The younger ones braved the swimming pool whilst us older members enjoyed the beautiful grounds. A very special time.
An absolutely gorgeous house/property that perfectly suited our large family while we celebrated our parents 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary around Hawkes Bay....and we weren't tripping over each other! Everything was provided from beautiful linen, ample heating, SKY tv (to watch the rugby game) down to the food provided in the fridge for a cooked breakfast.
The beds were SO comfy!!!!
Accommodation for larger family groups is rare so we very much appreciated that this stately home was available.
Thank you so much D and M, for helping make our family trip to Hawkes Bay one to fondly remember. X
If what you're looking for is a large house with space both internally and externally for people to spread out, and also a place with historic interest and grandeur, this is your location. There are 5 bedrooms in the main house, and 2 lounges, one of them quite huge, with a long formal table which we used for playing games mainly.
We were there in summer, and the focus of our group was the kitchen at the back, whose windows open on to the the bbq/outdoor dining area with a beautiful pergola, and the swimming pool. The swimming pool was clean, the gated area is really great for hanging out and the kids couldn't get enough of it.
The other thing that I really enjoyed about the house is that for a garden and tree lover, there was a lot to appreciate. There are several large oaks and a very old and established Ash with a nice swing installed underneath.
Honestly, I can't imagine a much more ideal place for my extended family to stay, and there were very few problems with the stay. The gas ran out for the bbq, but Denis replaced it quickly once we let him know. Thanks again Denis!
I hope we get the chance to stay here again in future.
Charming, elegant, & spacious Villa with lovely private garden & patio spaces.
Relaxed week long stay in a gracious Villa with lots of old world charm. Large rooms, high ceilings, eclectic mix of beautiful antiques & comfortable modern furnishings. Felt like a home not a hotel.Garden spaces provided both sunny & shady options for outdoor meals or relaxing. Very private. Lovely small pool in a leafy corner.A few kitchen & outdoor furniture items could do with updating or refreshing.Host was very friendly, attentive, and often made themself available to chat. Our family would happily stay here again.
We do a family holiday (11 of us) every year and this was one of the nicest homes we have stayed in. Was very well appointed and had everything we needed. Highly recommended.
This property was perfect for what we needed, especially the pool for recovery for the players after a day at tournament. Our volunteer chefs were able to use the kitchen and BBQ to provide food for the team.
Our family met for Christmas at this wonderful property. It was spacious, clean, comfortable everything we needed and all in a beautiful setting. The children loved the swimming pool, the croquet and pétanque while the adults enjoyed the peace and space to catch up together. We would highly recommend this property. Thank you for sharing this beautiful home for others to enjoy.
This property was just beautiful, perfect space for a bigger group. The gardens were stunning and all the details in the home were immaculate. Caters well to a large group because there was lots of room for everyone. Well located for a hawkes bay holiday! We would love to stay here again if we have the chance.

A lovely big home very close to the shops, peaceful, private and a gorgeous swimming pool. Loved the gardens and a joy to see rabbits running around the lawn when we came home after going to restaurants. Our group enjoyed the home very much. Thank you so much. Would love to come back some time. Maybe the same time next year with a few less people.

About the host
Hosted by DenisHa2
Denis and Margie are now retired after careers in Law and teaching. They have lived in Havelock North since they married in 1968. Denis grew up on a farm in Hawkes Bay and Margie came from Wellington. They have always loved buying and renovating houses and Hillington reflects their interest in fine art, reading, history, travel and fine furniture. They love gardens and gardening and were thrilled to take over the care of this beautiful house and established garden.
Why they chose this property
When you come to stay at this beautiful property you will be able to imagine that it is your family home. Imagine our family heirlooms are yours. There have been generations here before you who have loved this house and garden. The house is very spacious and the large garden allows guests to spread out and find a quiet space or be right in the fun near the pool and outdoor dining space.
What makes this property unique
Has been part of the Hawkes Bay Holly Hospice Trail. This historic house was once two storied, but the top storey was removed in the 1930s and taken elsewhere. See the photo in the entrance hall when you are there.
