Te Huia is purpose built and situated in a unique location with a stunning setting and sweeping views from it's elevated position. Set within a Kiwi reserve, you are guaranteed to hear the calls of our elusive national bird as well a spotting an array of other native birds. Our Pacific Coastline has to be some of the most impressive in NZ. With towering topography, white sand ocean beaches and clear water pristine estuaries, it is a largely un-compromised environment with large reserves and DOC estates. Along with our national Te Ara Roa Walkway passing right through, there is also an extensive network of walks and hikes at Bream Head Scenic Reserve. The walks range from very easy to a 5 hr challenging hike over the ridge of the reserve. Over the summer a feature of our coast are the warm clear waters, a natural aquatic mecca with a large collection of stunning beaches and waterways in the vicinity - and for the rest of the year we still remain New Zealand's warmest region, so a winter stay at Te Huia can be a warm and sunny experience. The fit-out of Te Huia is of Scandinavian influence with simple but stylish furnishings and tasteful decor, all adding to the experience. From family holidays to romantic retreats, Te Huia is suitable for most purposes. It makes for a perfect base from which to explore a beautiful region of New Zealand. Located 1 hours drive from The Bay of Islands and 40 minutes drive from Tutukaka which is the location from where theres access to The Poor Knights Island Marine Reserve. Our local area is all about the landscapes, beaches, forest, walks, hikes and a natural environment to explore and enjoy.

We spent two nights, which wasn't long enough to enjoy all that was on offer in this location. Suzanne gave great advice on nearby walks to spend our limited time there. Smugglers Bay and Kauri Beach were amazing. Wish we could have stayed there longer.

This is a beautiful modern property in a stunning location.
This is a beautiful modern property in a stunning location. The views are amazing and the house itself is very well equipped and suited us perfectly (we are a family with two small children). Would thoroughly recommend and we hope to be back. Thanks Paul and Suzanne.
We have been to NZ many times, but had not stayed in this specific area. The house, property, and views are spectacular. There are walks from the house or from the close road as well as many hikes in the area. The coast, beach, and headlands are lovely. Parua Bay is about 15-20 minutes away with a nice little grocery store, well stocked liquor store, a nice bakery, pizza restaurant, and a very good Indian food. We hope to be back.
Te Huia is one of the best places we have stayed in. Te Huia was a sacred and beautiful bird to the Māori and is a fitting name for this house.
The view from the deck looking out over the South Pacific was breathtaking. The sunsets were spectacular.
The house was very well equipped and we particularly enjoyed the surround sound speakers that we could also link our phones to listen to our music.
Nearby are numerous tramping tracks and almost deserted sandy beaches so there is no shortage of things to do in area.
Stay here - you won’t be disappointed!!
