About this property
Private bliss - the perfect beach getaway
This beautiful little one-bedroom bach has been completely renovated and boasts excellent indoor/outdoor flow to decks on both the west and east sides. Open up the bifold doors from your bedroom and watch the sunrise over native plantings as you sip coffee in bed. After a day at the beach, enjoy a BBQ on the west deck as you watch the sunset. Or, relax in an outdoor bath under the stars.
Inside, the bach contains a fully equipped kitchen, separate toilet and a shower with foot physiology pebbled shower floor. Modern new appliances (fridge, dishwasher and washing machine) all purchased in last 24 months.
This bach is set on a 15-acre property, with ~5 acres of groomed lawn, a (young) orchard and a herb garden (seasonal) on site.
The bach is about 800m off Tokerau Beach (driving access only).
There is plenty of space for parking vehicles/boats and plenty of fresh (bore) water.
The nearest 'major' shopping centre for amenities is Kaitaia, about 25 minute drive. There is a convenience store with all the basics, petrol and a liquor store on the Peninsula. Carrington Estate and Winery/golf course is a short drive away as well and is a beautiful location to spend an afternoon with a bottle of wine.
The bach has only one bedroom with a queen bed but we can accommodate families with young kids sleeping on the sofas or on squabs (mattresses) on the lounge floor. (Please enquire.) We allow pets (one) and a small fee is charged to help with extra cleaning. (Carpets and furniture get more frequent shampooing). The property is large with plenty of space for your four legged friend to run but it isn't fenced/ secure.
The bach is conveniently located for a day trip to Cape Reinga or over to the West Coast for a surf at Ahipara, on stunning 90 mile beach. Kite surfing off Tokerau Beach is popular.
Special conditions: Please - no additional guests staying beyond those booked. No smoking inside our on the property grounds. No tents or additional overnight guests without prior permission. No pets allowed on the property No open fires - the peninsula in general is usually very dry and fire risk is often high (There is a chimnea on the deck that you are welcome to use)
Extras: Cleaning (Required, NZ$75.00 per stay); Linen (professionally laundered and pressed, included).

We had the best time. So peaceful and calm, nearby beaches are beautiful (although a bit of a drive to get to the best spots but so worth it). Just a stunning place to come back to after a days exploring. Loved the fruit trees and bird life.
This home is a perfect retreat or base which is what we use to go fishing. The peace and privacy is perfect, the bath is so relaxing and being able to take clean clothes home instead of the next day being spent in the laundry is appreciated. Try this place out you won’t be disappointed. This was our 2nd visit and we plan on going back again next year.
We spent a wonderful week at Private Bliss, it couldn't have been more relaxing! The house itself is very spacious, clean and well equipped, with everything we needed and the bed was very comfortable. The beaches on the Karikari peninsula is stunning with very few people and we caught heaps of snapper!Overall,we had a fantastic stay despite the patchy weather, and it was great to visit an area we hadn't seen before.I highly recommend Private Bliss for a couple looking for complete privacy and relaxation.
Second time staying at this lovely Bach. Perfect for a couple who enjoy privacy and just want to unwind. Bach well equipped, with two decks, bbq, good internet connection and even an outside bath. Will stay again.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We loved having you and would welcome you back.
This property is amazing, tucked out of the way with large area all to yourself. Close to so many amazing beaches, and an ideal spot to continue to relax after a day in the sun. Lovely deck for bbq dinners and an outside bath to soak in at the end of the evening

Beautiful location, quiet and secluded.
Beautiful location, quiet and secluded. Comfortable property. Had everything we needed, loved the outdoor bath and made full use of it. No problems at all, it was hard to leave.
Absolute little treasure. We wanted a very secluded place to stay, and that's exactly what we got. Awesome location, loads of beautiful beaches close by. The place was very well equipped and quite considering it was very wet and windy for a couple of days. Highly recommend this place. Will definitely be back.

Thanks Scott. Super appreciate the kind words. You had horrible weather so I am pleased you enjoyed it despite that! Would happily welcome you back 😊
We loved our stay here. It was so lovely and private and peaceful. Well stocked kitchen and great outdoor bath. Only slight (and would stay here again regardless) draw back is that we found the bed a little hard, but some point might like that. And we still had a fabulous and very comfortable stay

Hi Kate. Thank you so much for your positive review (and for booking with us). Hilariously that mattress is new as of December, and in response to feedback from guests on the past one that it was too soft we went with a firmer one. Lol. Kinda a personal thing that is hard to get right for everyone, but thank you for letting us know. We will keep an eye on this and look at getting a soft mattress topper if needed. :-)
We totally enjoyed our stay. Perfect central location to visit the many beaches around the area and a beautiful scenic drive north to Cape Reinga. Loved that sunrise every morning. Michelle was very helpful answering any queries we had as well as offering us good suggestings, plus was a great help when we forget an important item after checking out and had to return the next day. Again, thank you.
Would return if ever traveling to New Zealand again.
Excellent couple of nights in this house. We were looking for somewhere accessible to the beaches and exploring the Pennisula - but not hemmed in by other houses or overlooked with a beach suburb feel. This was perfect. Wild weather - but hey when on holiday who minds..... Thank you for the haven
We really enjoyed our stay and would love to come back soon. We had the cyclone come through and were well looked after by the owners and communication was really personal, generous and quick. House was well stocked for bad weather with emergency supplies, books and games.
Lovely quiet and private spot with well kept gardens and enjoyed the bath even during the cyclone when we had power.
thank you Michelle for a great stay and thank you for sharing.

About the host
Hosted by Michelle
We are a Canadian/Kiwi couple. My partner grew up on this land and helped his family farm it when he was young. I fell in love with it the first time he brought me up north. We live in Auckland but love our escapes to the bach and often spend our weekends either on the water paddling, or on the land, planting trees (or controlling weeds!).
Why they chose this property
This bach is built on family land and has a special history to us. Previously farmed, we are gradually returning our property to native bush, and though still small, the native plantings around the bach have all been propagated from local sources and planted by the two of us over many years of hard work.
What makes this property unique
This place is good for the soul. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you will enjoy complete privacy (with the exception of neighbouring cows). The bach is full of light and completely opens up with bifold doors on either side, to let the sun stream in.
It is a short drive to multiple beaches - about 800m off Tokerau beach (driving only).
This isn't a shopping destination or a place to go for fine dining. It is a blissful, serene getaway. Bring your swimsuit and water sports gear, a good book and a bottle of wine and you will be set.
