Secluded house set on a ridge top among the pohutukawa trees, overlooking beautiful Bryans/Waiotahe beach with views from Whale island to Cape runaway.

Located 30 minutes from Whakatane or 15 minutes drive from Opotiki.
Private road is newly signposted Ataahua Rise off Ohiwa Beach Road. House is up the hill and to the left at the fork 3B Ataahua Rise.

Activities in the area include, swimming, kayaking and surfing, mountain biking , bush walks, fishing, golf, diving, horse riding and more. The house is architecturally designed with wooden floors, 5 meter ceiling and opens up completely to provide great indoor- outdoor flow, large decking with breathtaking views. equipped with modern amenities including dual-drawer dishwasher, gas hob, oven, washing machine/dryer, outdoor shower, BBQ, kayak, boogie boards, surfboard and outdoor furniture, some linen available, duvets and pillows. *** Although there is an open fire with wood and there are heaters provided, the high stud and many windows it can get very chilly during winter months ***

Families preferred. Deck not suitable for small children. Smoking outside only.

We aim to always have a minimum of one day between guests,

Rain/tank water only so please conserve. Water potable via filtration and UV treatment system.

Supply own linen - duvets/pillows available. No shoes worn inside please.

NOTE: According to kiwi bach tradition you are expected to bring your own linen (towels/sheets etc), and leave the house as you found it. If you would like us to arrange cleaning for you this can be done for NZ$125 per stay.

Absolutely magical views, so peaceful watching the birds and listening to the ocean. Fantastic location although walking up the driveway probably not for the faint hearted! Well equipped with activities for all weather conditions.

A wonderful spot to relax and enjoy the natural surrounding and views.

A beautiful property, very private and an ideal place to stay and unwind from our typical lives. No wifi service was an excuse to put down the devices and enjoy the native Flora and fauna. Would recommend this spot.

Great escape with amazing views

We loved this property with its large open living lounge/kitchen space, ideal for two families coming together. Well-stocked kitchen, had all the kitchenware we needed. Open fire and heaters to heat up the house, would be very cold without but toasty once we got it heated up. Good to note that all phone coverage except Spark is poor at the house but you can get reception down at the beach. Loved the amazing view of native bush, beach and White Island smoking away as well as the abundant and cheeky piwakawaka flying around constantly. We will be back

Amazing property

This property alone was amazing. Clean, tidy, spacious, modern, serene, friendly neighbours and a view to die for. The only downfall for us personally was we couldn’t get to enjoy it due to the poor weather during our stay. Torrential non stop rain caused slips, flooding and road closures in the area our whole stay. Our main reason for travel was for a tournament in Whakatane. Unfortunately we had to cut our trip short and leave a day early, however we are hoping to return in the New Year with family again. Thank you Sandee for your awesome communication during our stay and helping when we really needed it.

Incredible views, tranquil atmosphere and abundant bird life. Incredibly kind and accomodating hosts. My son was lucky to have spent his first two months at the property while renovations were completed at our home. We spent many hours in the sun drenched living room and enjoyed our first walks together on the beach below.

One of the best places we've ever stayed

We've stayed at almost 100 different places in NZ over 13 trips and this one rates near the top. Fabulous view, stunning house, total privacy, excellent support from the property manager. We loved it and hope to return for a longer stay in future.

Fantastic place to escape to and enjoy the beautiful views across the coast. Waking to the bird song and sound of the ocean was the best start to our day. Sandee, the property manager, could not have been more helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Paradise found

This is an absolutely fantastic home perched above the Pacific with the gentle roar of the surf washing up on the beach below and the plume of smoldering White Island on the horizon. The expansive bifold windows create an amazing vista, and they can be completely opened to allow the sea breezes to fully engulf the house. The kitchen is fully appointed with all amenities, and with the incredible view and the gas grill on the deck, I had no interest in eating meals anywhere else. The bush surrounding the yard was full of native birds and their calls, including tuis, rurus, wekas, and even kiwis. I particularly enjoyed long daily walks on Ohiwa Beach as well as great bike rides along the gentle Dunes Trail and the thrilling Pakihi Track (I highly recommend seeing Grant at The Travel Shop in Opitiki for bike rentals and assistance). Sandee had everything arranged perfectly on arrival and checked in frequently to make sure everything was going well. This was one of the few corners of New Zealand in which I had not spent much time previously, but I will definitely be coming back if I can stay at this home again.

Absolute Bliss

My husband and I are teachers and we had our school holiday "escape" here. The weather was gtorgeous, and we barely left the house as the views and facilities were better than anywhere else we could go to. Complete relaxation and serenity! Thank you so much for opening your gorgeous home to us

Stunning house on the hill

We stayed at this property to celebrate my 50th and even though it rained while we were there we felt snuggly and comfy in our little hideout on the hill. What a magical house. We have told our friends and family and we definitely be back. Thankyou. I hope you find the pies we left you ❤️
