We had a wonderful stay at La Maison Escande! The most beautiful location, both within the town and the region. The home was quite spacious and had everything we needed. Easy to walk anywhere within the city, highly recommend the Wednesday market! Will definitely recommend this home to others visiting the area.
We spent just about 11 days at this property and it definitely exceeded our expectations, the convenience to the town of Sarlat made it easy to explore… close to shops and restaurants-and too do sightseeing day trips, the house is decorated nicely and very comfortable. The kitchen is supplied perfectly for the days you feel like cooking in. It was just the two of us, Another couple is doable or a small family, More than that might be a bit tight… if you have your own vehicle, there is free parking just a short distance away across from the park. A definite yes. Sincerely U.S visitor
Perfect location in this vibrant town! Tourists were stopping to take pictures of this historical home with its beautiful roses. We were right in the center of everything. Market days are busy and fun and restaurants are short walks in every direction. The kitchen is very well equipped. We purchased fresh fish and vegetables at the Wednesday market to cook in. Once you're accustomed to the area, the parking is not an issue. We found a space in the free lot next to the park every night, but one, due to a holiday event at the park. That night, we parked in a metered space at the top on the hill with no problem. Metered parking is free at night and inexpensive during the day. We loved this home in Sarlat and all of the Dordogne region. There's a lot to do in town and area for adults and children. We will return...maybe with grand kids.
We had an amazing stay at La Maison Escande. Jacqueline the host, was super helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The property was just lovely, steeped in history. Would certainly recommend. Thanks Jacqueline!!
The house is THE most emblematic in Sarlat (see poster on kitchen). All visitors stop by for a photo by it. Very comfortable living/dining/bedrooms spaces and very well appointed. Jacqueline is a delight! Totally memorable!!
Jacqueline was waiting for us when we got to Sarlat. She was delightful to talk to, and exceedingly helpful giving us ideas where to visit and eat during our stay. The old house was spacious, well appointed, and memorable.
A must for enjoying Sarlat and all the wonderful surrounding castles. This recently restored historic residence in the middle of Sarlat will allow you to explore all of the Dordogne, all within a short drive. Stay in town you will find so many great Restaurants. Duck in all forms, Foi Gras, Pate and truffles abound. Our host, Jaqueline made our trip one to remember. Our two weeks there was to celebrate our 50th anniversary. What great memories we shall bring back home.
This was such a lovely place to stay. It’s a 16th century historic home with loads of charm and history but yet outfittted with all of the modern conveniences. In the morning, one wakes up to fresh air, the sounds of birdsong and the bells of the church next door. Located in the heart of Sarlat so shops, restaurants and the famous market are on your doorstep. If you have elderly guests or ones with limited mobility be warned there are steps both within the house and into the home so a bit challenging. Host/owner is very kind and responsive. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again and hope I have the chance to do so one day!
Magnificent is the best word to describe our wonderful host Jacqueline, and this historic home (16th century) with a perfect view of the old cathedral. The early morning tranquility and late night splendor seen from the front stone porch are peaceful and inspiring. The home has all modern conveniences and everything you need for cooking at home. Sarlat and the Dordogne region offer many activities. Jacqueline offers dining and activity recommendation to make your stay memorable and enjoyable. This is the only place we will consider if we retrun to beautiful Sarlat.
What a beautiful region & remarkable home! My family of 4 spent two weeks in this city’s most enchanting, most photographed medieval cottage & loved our stay. The home is quiet at night, beds were comfortable, washer & toilet on ground floor were convenient & fans for cooling were provided. We enjoyed the small patio for morning coffee & it was so nice to step out the door & have all of Sarlat at our feet. Or within 15 minutes be in another perfectly preserved voted ‘most beautiful’ medieval village. Our gracious host Jacqueline & her English speaking daughter, Lea, personally met us at the top of the street where it’s very easy to offload your luggage & park free overnight. Longer term free parking info was given & it’s just a short diagonal walk across the park. Jacqueline & her daughter Lea were available if we needed anything & are both lovely warm people. Do read their booklet for top spots, etc. We did mostly everything on it.
More Tips:
* Do not miss Beynac, park at the castle, visit, then walk down through the village & let the fittest one retrieve the car. ;)
* Domme: park at the very top- do the Grotto tour underneath the visitor center.
* Canoe: we can recommend Canoe Loisirs
* Chateau Milandes: Falconry show
* Sarlat’s market days were terrific. The mini Casino for everything else is a few minutes walk away or the large Carrefour nearby.
Thank you again Jacqueline & Lea, we had a wonderful time!
Jacqueline's home was perfect for us. It was quiet, even though it's the most-photographed home, with it's iconic architecture and perfect location at the entrance to the old town. It was spacious and clean, and a great base for exploring Sarlat and the surrounding areas.
This property exceeded our expectations, an outstanding home with an in town location. Second to none. Strolling the ancient streets of Sarlat and sampling the wine and food was memorable. Our host and owner couldn’t have done more to make are stay better, her beautiful historic home provided the historic feel with all the latest conveniences, we hated to leave.
Lovely old house with lots of atmosphere and charm. Well decorated.
From the photo we did not realize that it was on such a steep hill with a steep, narrow alley like street. We had an SUV and there was only public parking and spaces were difficult to find. Otherwise, the experience of staying in this house was wonderful! The owner is charming and very helpful. The house was just steps from the medieval town, and it was only a short walk to the bakery every morning for warm bread!
This house has the most Beauty and the Beast Vibes: the patio is covered with flowers and overlooks the village, and the rooms are rustic and cozy. The outside of the house is very picturesque. The bathroom and the kitchen are updated but still felt cozy. Jacqueline gave us a tour of the house during the check-in and helped us with the check-out process; she was very hospitable. She left us a nice gift for our stay. The house is the perfect location; we were steps away from the town center and l the market. Overall, our stay was amazing. We highly recommend this house.
Stunning historic property in amazing location with perfect outlook
I cannot recommend this property highly enough. Jacqueline was a considerate and welcoming host, who made sure we had everything we needed without imposing on our stay. The property was beautifully restored and presented, and spotlessly clean in a wonderful central location. Our stay was a joy and we cannot wait to return!
