About this property
Colomatta Mist, Blackheath - Pet Friendly Cottage with Escarpment Views
Welcome to Colomatta Mist! Just 90 minutes from bustling Sydney city, this tranquil, and light-filled two-bedroom cottage sits on a quiet street on the edge of Blackheath, overlooking the beautiful Kanimbla Valley.
The cosy living room features a wood combustion fireplace at the centre. Inviting seating is complemented by an Apple TV for streaming your favourite shows, a guitar for impromptu tunes, a bar cart stocked with board games, a NES mini (for the nostalgic among us), and a selection of books create a welcoming space to unwind.
The cottage features two tranquil bedrooms. The master bedroom's French doors open onto the front verandah with escarpment views - perfect for morning coffee and evening sunsets. It includes a queen bed with French flax linen bedding. The second bedroom is equipped with two king single beds, making it ideal for adults or children alike. Both rooms offer panel heaters and extra blankets for chilly nights and ceiling fans for the Summer months.
The rustic kitchen is well-equipped, featuring quality cookware like a Staub cocotte and Scanpan pots, pans, and knives. You'll find all essential utensils, and a family-sized fridge. We've also set up a handy breakfast station with a capsule coffee machine, tea kettle, and toaster. For wine lovers, there's enough glassware for four, including both red and white wine glasses. Enjoy a leisurely stroll to the village to pick up freshly baked bread, local produce, and quality meats, and return to this inviting space to enjoy the simple pleasures of rustic living.
Outdoors, the front garden offers seating, while the back garden features a garden table, bench seats, and a fire pit - perfect for cosy evenings under the mountain stars.
Surrounded by the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains, Blackheath offers visitors a variety of attractions. From the annual Rhododendron Festival in November to the breathtaking views at Evans Lookout and Pulpit Rock, there’s something for everyone. Visit nearby wineries and experience paddock-to-plate fine dining in the Megalong Valley or enjoy the seasonal blooms and birdwatching along the Fairfax Heritage Walking Track.
This retreat is ideal for couples, small families, groups of friends, and nature lovers. Reconnect with nature and savour the beauty of a slower pace of life. Whether you’re after easy bushwalks, challenging trails or a restful retreat, this cottage provides a perfect base for your escape.
Colomatta Mist is delighted to welcome your furry friend! Have a different pet? We're happy to consider non-canine companions on a case-by-case basis! Please also note, the property is not fully fenced.
Please kindly note that we only have a step-in bath with overhead shower, which might not suit those who have mobility issues.
*** Colomatta was recorded as being the name given to the Blue Mountains area by the local First Nations people. Colomatta Mist stands on the traditional land of the Dharug and Gundungurra People. We recognise that the idyllic surrounds on which we gather, play and rest on are located on the unceded lands of the Dharug and Gundungurra People who have cared for and nurtured these lands for thousands of years. We pay our respects to their Elders, past, present and future. ***

About the host
Hosted by Vanessa Toogood

We’re a family of four from Sydney who have been regular visitors to Blackheath for over 20 years. The peace and beauty of the area inspire us, and we hope to retire here one day. In the meantime, we’re thrilled to share our mountain retreat with you. Hosting lets us offer others the chance to enjoy this special place when we can’t. We hope you love the house and its stunning surroundings as much as we do — our young blue roan cocker spaniel certainly does too!
Why they chose this property
We’ve been regular visitors to Blackheath for over 20 years, and every time we return, we fall in love with the area all over again. The Upper Blue Mountains area offers natural beauty in a relaxed atmosphere. From the sweeping views of the Kanimbla and Megalong Valleys to the stunning bushland and dramatic cliffs, it’s a place that invites you to slow down, connect with nature, and feel like a world away from everything. We especially enjoy the cold weather, which brings that magical Christmas feeling in July. There’s something romantic about the mist hugging the valleys, the crisp air, and the cosy fires that make winter here so inviting. It’s a time to linger and savour every moment.
After two decades of visits, we still feel like there’s always something new to discover—and we’re sure you will too. If you’re seeking a true escape, this tranquil corner of the Blue Mountains offers the perfect setting to unwind, explore, and be inspired.

What makes this property unique
Colomatta Mist offers a peaceful retreat with views over the Kanimbla Valley and surrounding bushland. Unlike many properties in the area, we welcome pets, so you can bring your furry friends along. Inside, the cottage has a cosy wood fireplace, perfect for cooler months. With two quiet bedrooms and a lovely deck, our mountain getaway combines comfort and charm. The kitchen, though rustic, is equipped with high-quality cookware, crockery, and utensils. Outdoors, the well-kept garden creates a private, tranquil atmosphere, while the fire pit in the back garden is perfect for cosy nights under the stars. It’s the ideal place to unwind and enjoy the beauty of the Blue Mountains.
