Cozy classic Maine cabin (year-round) on the water. Huge property with direct water access to a river which is connected to Messalonskee Lake 100 yards away! Beautifully carved fireplace, woodstoves, large screened-in porch, as well as all of the modern comforts (w/d, dishwasher, Wifi, etc.). Get away while being close to a variety of Maine's best loved sites. A few minutes' drive to shops, antiques, golf, 4 mountains (hiking, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, biking), a nature conservancy, multiple lakes (boating, swimming fishing year-round), and restaurants.

Pets are welcome and a fee applies (up to 2 dogs/stay). At time of booking, please update your guests to include your pet.

Great Huge Lake Cabin

So easy to check in! So much space! I loved having my coffee in the morning on the dock. We stayed here during the Maine Ironman 70.3. It was nice and relaxing setting us up for a great race. Kitchen was well stocked!

Quiet family holiday

It was a shirt trio for us to see family in the area for the holidays. The space was nice and met our needs with a well stocked kitchen. It is rustic, which we like, and as such has a few small quirks that are easy to adjust too. Communication was quick and appreciated.

Perfect place for our vacation

Met friends from Georgia at this cozy cabin and had a great week fishing and hanging around the fire pit telling stories and reminiscing about the past. Up stairs bathroom a little small but that was the only negative we could find. Definitely thinking of going back!!

Rustic Fall Getaway

We visited the area to attend the Maine Cabin Masters Lobster Bake, which was only a 15 min drive. We were a group of 3 couples and 1 dog. The cabin was roomy for us all and the screened porch was wonderful. The sunset from the dock was lovely, property was surprisingly private. Cabin is very rustic, but well equiped. Beds were comfortable, linens were nice.

Family Thanksgiving

Grew up in the area and my kids all live here now- we live 3 hours so I was able to “host” and the kids didn’t have to travel far. My youngest grandson was 3 weeks old so this worked out great- they stopped by for a few hours each day. The other grandsons could go to basketball and hockey. Great set up for our needs!

Relaxing family trip

Property was large. Two docks where you could enter water. There were enough kayaks for all of us. Large fire pit for evening camp fires. Screened in porch for the rainy days. Really enjoyed our time together in this lovely location!

Visiting Family

We stayed at the house while visiting Family in Oakland which is about a 10 minute drive so we did not spend much time at the house. We managed to work in a kayak paddle around the stream before the rain set in for the weekend. Beds were comfortable and house was well stocked. Location is nice on the Belgrade Stream with easy access to shopping and tourist attractions. Would love to come back and enjoy the outdoor activities

Great wifi, loved the size of the lot and the on demand hot water. Cabin was EXTREMELY DIRTY and the owner fix was scented garbage bags and toxic air fresheners. Property in disrepair, we bought and installed a pin to secure the ramp hinge on the aluminum dock, the wooden dock needs significant repair. No easy access to water for dogs or older folks. Trash and dog poop on the grounds which we cleaned. Above all, the washing machine was caked with mold and mildew to the extent that the bedroom where it is located, stunk of mold and mildew. Too big of a job for us to clean. Sad that we packed thinking we could use the beautiful washer in the pics. Suggest YouTube video how to clean front load washer and signs for guests to leave the washer door open, even if it means permanently closing the entrance to the bathroom from that bedroom. Also suggest hiring a professional cleaning company and bring property up to minimum code, as most rooms had no smoke detectors.

Beautiful Home by the Water

Lovely location with well equipped kitchen. Comfortable beds, some bedrooms are "walkthroughs." Upstairs requires crouching through low hallway to get to loft, and to use upstairs toilet in water closet. Bring your bug spray! The flies & mosquitos were swarming outside while we were there. It rained every day, but there was plenty to do inside. And we always enjoyed the lovely view of the Belgrade Stream!

Mini family reunion

The property was ideal for our stay. While it unfortunately rained over most of the three days there, the large open space was comfortable for our group of 7 to read, dine and play games together. The porch was large and peaceful. The walk through between three bedrooms was surprising but it worked, and we were grateful for the tiny bathroom in the large bedroom upstairs. In a break in the weather I was thrilled to take a kayak down the lake and visit with the first loon of the season. It was well appointed for large meals and cooking and the owner was super responsive. Great stay!

Great cabin, would stay there again

Lovely place, we had everything we needed. We arrived at night and it is on a unpaved driveway, covered in leaves at this time of year, so that was tricky. The lot is really beautiful, beds were comfortable with good linens. Owner was very responsive which I really liked. Only problem was a very smoky smell in the cabin. Apparently the chimneys had been serviced which caused this, but our first night it was very intense. It subsided a bit during our stay.

Quiet house in the woods

We had a nice stay for nearly a week at this quiet house. The weather was cool and rainy so we didn't get to enjoy all of the outdoor amenities this place offered. The woodstove was wonderful, though! It was a quick 20 minute drive to a large grocery store and we went to dinner in Augusta and Waterville. There are lots of great hikes nearby, some just a 10 minute drive. I saw a bald eagle on a lovely paddle using the kayaks Christine had made available to us. The check in was SUPER easy!

Family Holiday

The cabin is large and beautiful. with a well working wood stove to supplement the heat on a small river. Only things to note: there is only one bathroom (there is a toilet and sink in one of the upstairs bedrooms) and the kitchen is rather narrow and devoid of much counter space. These two things were minor issues because we were having a family holiday gathering, so cooking and getting clean were at times difficult. But, as long as one is prepared for those aspects of the property, it is excellent.

Rustic but well-equipped cabin on the water

Overall we had a very nice stay. The owner was very responsive whenever we had questions and the cabin came with just about everything one would need to be self-sufficient (which was handy as we wanted to do a lot of cooking at the house). Some of the screens on the porch could use repair (including the doors) and the water pressure in the shower is low, but overall things were in good condition and we really loved using the swings on the porch to relax while avoiding bugs. Our kids swam a bit off of the wooden dock. The bottom was a little mucky but they wore water shoes and just pulled themselves back up onto the dock rather than walking back to shore. We brought our fishing boat and caught a lot of fish in both the river and the lake, so highly recommended to anyone who wants to do some fishing!

Stay in Belgrade

The Maine Cabin on the Water is certainly a very interesting property with great potential but I do not think we will be back. We had requested an early check in which was accommodated and appreciated...but arrival details were never relayed. I was eventually able to track down the host and get information after waiting outside for a while.We found the house's layout to be really cool and would be fun for a large group. That said, it was not very well maintained with gaps in the screened in porch, a living room chair so damaged it was basically unusable and a noticeable lack of cleaning. We were also frequently battlling against an ant infestation. It was great to be on the water and one of the two docks became available on our second day after someone stopped by to roll it out to the water. Not an issue at all as it was still early in the summer season. That said, the grounds around the firepit and swing set were overgrown so we weren't able to enjoy them. We did very much enjoy floating in the river off of the dock and taking some kayak rides. Fortunately it was not too hot for July as the only AC unit we saw was in one of the upstairs bedrooms.

Cozy cabin in remote, riverfront property perfect for kayaking

We had an excellent Labor Day weekend at this property. The cabin is in a fairly remote area between a lumber yard and a river which is only a short kayak ride away from Messalonskee Lake. There's plenty of privacy from neighbors, though you will occasionally hear noise from watercraft engines and the many woodland critters with whom you share the property (We think there's a wood chuck living under the porch. We named him Phil). The highlight of the property for us was the screened in porch with two hammock-style seats that were absurdly comfortable: a great place to start the day with coffee. The bedrooms were nothing to write home about, but the quaintness of the main loving room and the comfort of the beds exceeded expectations. Our favorite part of the vacation was doubtlessly the river kayaking: there were several watercraft available with a small dock to board them in. We took them out into the river away from lake on a mostly sunny day and were floored by the peacefulness. Our biggest regret was not spending more time out there (as opposed to relaxing on the porch). The one call-out I'll make it that the river is not exactly fit for swimming: the water itself seemed clean enough, but stepping into the river bed is a good way to sink down past your ankle in sediment if you're lucky and all manner of vegetation otherwise. Given your proximity to the lakes though, I would assume there are about swimming holes in driving/long kayaking distance if your sufficiently motivated. Highly recommend for temperate Spring/Fall weather. Would love to stay again!

Had a good trip despite a lot of issues with the house, owner was asked about several b4 the trip

The Pros: 1.loons swam by often 2.Enjoyed paddle boat & kayaks 3.Kitchen well stocked, had spices & basic food 4.Beds were comfortable, linens included 5.Basket of kids toys & board games enjoyed by kids of varying ages Cons: 1.Screens on porch so filthy that previous renters had drawn fallic symbols in the dust (only visible at night, dusted ourselves) 2. Owner said place very quiet, but outside you will hear the main road traffic and lumber mill all day. Upset about that. (Can also hear train) 3. Owner asked about low ceiling for master, said no complaints from prior renters, so let me be the first. We hit our heads SO many times (5'7" so not THAT tall), and the half bath they took literally by making you bend in half to use it, it's a toilet in an attic closet, with the sink in the bedroom. You will also hit your head going downstairs. 4. Poor lighting at the dining room table, and in shower (needs different curtain to let light in) 5. Keurig was unusable- filthy 6. Ant traps everywhere were safety hazard for toddler who drank one first night 7. Deck steps dangerous, 3 adults fell using after rain (green from moss/algae?) 8. Soft spot on deck by door 9. Not toddler friendly- loft has big railing holes, large hole in screen door (toddler escaped thru multiple times), door latches at toddler height (moved up ourselves), no way to keep toddler inside once adult goes outside 10.Fire pit needs to be cleaned to use 11.Dishwasher fixed with bread tie?! 12.Not boater friendly

Comfortable, spacious house in a quiet, private location

The house was very well stocked with paper goods, linens, towels, toiletries, condiments, etc. The beds were comfortable with super cozy comforters. We really enjoyed hanging out in the spacious living room and having meals at the large dining room table overlooking the water. Check in and check out process was very easy.

A lovely time, again

This was our third stay at the cabin. It was as lovely as ever and Christine was friendly and helpful, as always. We had a relaxing multigenerational family break for our daughter's first Thanksgiving. There was something for everyone, from grandparents taking nice walks to an infant exploring the beautiful open space.
