About this property

Smith Lake Vacation Rental

Lake house located in a quiet slew on Lewis Smith Lake (Smith Lake) in Jasper, AL 5 minutes from Duncan Bridge and Arley, AL.

Come stay for a vacation home getaway with all the comforts of home plus fishing, grilling with family or friends, and playing in the sun! Large deck for the views and relaxing. Includes pier/ boat dock. 2BD 2BA - 1 King and 1 queen bed. Living room includes big screen tv with video streaming apps. Home offers all standard appliances including washer and dryer.

Lower boat traffic through the Smith Lake channel tunnel to the property adds for a safer swimming area than the main body of the lake. Property is located 1 or 2 minutes from Duncan Bridge Marina by vehicle or about 5 to 10 by water. Evan’s Marina is located in the same slew as this property. Check with Duncan, Squirrels, and Evan’s Marina for pontoon boat rentals and boat launch.

Great cellphone service for AT&T and Verizon. Has WIFI high speed internet.

Most boats and all personal watercraft fit through the Smith Lake tunnel for Curry Hwy however, we would suggest not booking and asking first if you have a boat with a tall non foldable rack. There is year round deep (approximately 30 ft) water in the slew. The tunnel itself has markers on the side placed by water patrol to let you know the depth. Happy to answer any questions and give tips for those that worry. We have been going through in our Glastron ski boat, pontoon boat, and Chris Craft ski boat for years.

Charming Cottage

The cottage was nicely decorated, comfortable sofas and bed, nice shower. You can tell the host tried to think of everything to make your stay enjoyable. I love the screened porch. Outdoors was very steep on all sides (Driveway, front walkway and decent down to the lake in the back.

Quick Weekend Getaway

It was a great and relaxing weekend. We needed some downtime and this location had that. We spent just about the whole weekend on the screened porch enjoying the view of the water. We look forward to our next visit!

Beautiful Lake House

The home was clean and had everything we needed. My family enjoyed fishing on the pier. Parking on the steep slope was scary at first, but got better after the initial shock. We really enjoyed this house.

Beautiful long weekend

The owners were very accommodating and responded quickly to our questions. We have a wedding in Jasper and it was 10 times better than renting. the hotel. The back patio had a beautiful view of the lake. Thank you

Cottage

We really enjoyed the historic sites in Jasper, and was close enough to enjoy Cullman. The home was a cozy two bedroom cottage. The only thing was missing was a table we could eat together and play games. I would suggest getting a card table with 4 chairs which can be folded up for space. We had a good time and enjoyed exploring the area.

Great place!

Only issue was driveway, not very easy for my car. But, it was a BMW 330i that has been lowered, so it should be fine for any car that's not too low to the ground. We were fine parking across the street though. Overall was very nice and super quiet!

Nice property for short getaway

The house was a perfect spot for our short family weekend getaway. The kitchen came equipped with everything we needed. The screened-in porch was great during those rainy afternoon showers. We brought a blow up mattress for our fifth person and there was plenty of room for it in the living room (we brought our own blankets and sheets for this). Hosts were quick to respond to any questions we had. The towels were a little mildew smelling but nothing a little white vinegar couldn’t fix. Great time and hope to come back again!

Nice house on the lake

The house on the lake was as described. It was very comfortable and nicely decorated. It had everything needed for a long weekend getaway. Cons: Although not the owner's fault: The driveway and property are on a very steep incline. On our vehicle we have a camera that gives us a front view also I am glad we had that pulling in a few times because of the angle it was hard to judge where you were at. We brought our dogs (we were there for a dog show) and it was very difficult to take them out sometimes to go potty because there were two "neighborhood" large dogs that kept coming over and barking at them. I was afraid they would fight so I would take mine back inside and wait until no sight of the "neighborhood" dogs. But other than that, my 2 boys wore themselves out swimming in the lake.

Nice waterfront house on quiet part of lake

Enjoyed our stay at this Smith Lake property. It was a good size for our family of 4 and the listing description was very accurate and helpful. The house is on a slough section of the lake, separated from the main lake body by Curry Hwy. with tunnel access to the lake, so this made for safe swimming off the swim platform and no boat traffic at all times of the day. We rented a pontoon boat and it was easy to navigate the boat through the tunnel under the highway if you have any boating experience at all. The house was well furnished - towels, hotel-style toiletries, dishes, tv’s in every room, both a gas grill and a charcoal grill. The screened-in back porch is really nice a a great place to start each morning. There is a local grocery store about 4 miles away and very convenient.

We loved it!

I’m going to start by saying, this is the best smelling rental I have ever stayed in. We rented for spring break and it turned out to be quite cold. We were unable to do most of the things we had planned on doing. It was so quite and peaceful, we didn’t even mind. Bed was comfy. Kitchen was stocked with all we needed to cook. Grills were available. The property looks different outside than in the photos. The owners are upgrading things outside. I will say, this rental would not be great for someone with mobility issues. Smith Lake in general is probably that way.

Steep Entry

Upon arriving at the property we immediately realized the entry to the property was a steep concrete sidewalk with no handrails. This was not pictured nor was this mentioned in the ad. We were very disappointed and left the property the following morning. We had paid for a six night stay. No refund was offered!! Very disappointed, would not recommend this property!!

Very nice vacation

This property is nice. It is an older house that has been completely remodeled. The very large deck and screened in back porch are wonderful! We really enjoyed our stay. Just a couple of items to let others know for future booking. There is only a small bar like table in the kitchen and there are several stairs to get to the water. There is plenty of parking at the house and a place for your trailer across the street but do not go past the house pulling a boat because there isn't anywhere to turn around. Others did mention the tunnel that you have to go through to get to the rental. There is plenty of room to get through even though the first time through it seems tight. One very nice thing about the tunnel is that you do not have much boat traffic in front of the house. The owners were wonderful to work with and very responsive to our texts. I would recommend to anyone wanting a get away. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay at your place. We had a great time!

Unsatisfactory rental

This property is dangerous due to the severe driveway. The driveway was covered in acorns and gravel when we arrived. We had to work over an hour to get a pathway to get in the house. There is no inside table to enjoy a meal together. The beds are old and warm out as is the sofas in the tv room. Refrigerator is old with rust in the freezer. The dock is unusable for boating. This place is only worth maybe $50 a night. I was given a number to call that was the x huusband of the owner. He explained he was no longer responsible because of the divorce and why was I calling him????? I want half of my money returned. Worst rental I have ever rented. I hurt my knee walking to the house se when we arrived! Please advise about my refund.

Horrible location

The description of this property to access the lake is deceitful. You have to go through a box culvert that is only 8 feet wide that is under a state highway and varies in height depending on water level! On both sides of the culvert it is very narrow and lots of rocks!! We tried to go through it once and scratched our pontoon boat. We called the property owner to tell him we couldn’t stay because we couldn’t access the lake and he said “anybody can drive through that tunnel”. Told him we wanted our money back and look for another place and he said “NO,The description explained you had a tunnel to drive through”. We went to the local marina to try and dock our boat there and they said “we know the guy and they said this happens all of the time”. We wound up finding another place to rent and just left this property. Public service announcement. Do not rent this property!!!!

Contractor working while there, had no notice! NO FLOATING DOCK ACCESS AS ADVERTISED!E

We were never informed of ongoing work, nor was told we would not be able to sit on floating dock until the day we arrived. As advertised, you can see clearly by this picture we should have been able to access the floating dock, but were not able to du.e to ongoing work that took place while staying. Very steep access to cabin. Tvs did not work could not get Netflix in Mstr. bedroom as Owner stated was available, we called the Owner regarding the TVs but he just said that someone must have messed them up with no assistance offered. We left a day early due to these issues. Asked Owner for last night of stay refund and he said. NO!!! Would appreciate a refund for last night. We left on Thurs. 10/14/21 at 9:AM and called Owner so he could send his Housekeeper to clean in case someone else wanted to rent it. Thank you, Ken and Alice Morton

About the host

Host profile image
My best friends grandfather built this home for his family to enjoy and my grandparents purchased the home in 1999. I have grown up on this lake in this vacation home with so many beautiful memories. Fishing, digging up our own worms, boating, tubing, roasting marsh mellows, catching frogs & fire flies, bbq'ing with loved ones, music, laying in the sun, reading good books with the peace and quite, jumping straight off the pier, and falling asleep heavy. This is the place I have made some of my best memories. Now my husband, Robert and I can share these same memories with our son and two daughters. My husband (office manager of a firm) and I (business owner) are hard workers with a lot of responsibilities. This is our getaway and we would not have it any other way. We hope this vacation home is the same lasting memories for all of our guests.

Why they chose this property

There is no question as to why Lewis Smith Lake in our minds. The lake is beautiful and clean. One of the cleanest lakes in America. Why this property... besides the memories, it is quite. The lake is blowing up with new homes, condo's, construction, etc. Slew's are the best! Always have been to me but this one is a little extra slice of remote.
