We stayed at the VRBO in Calgary for 5 nights. Our check in was difficult, instructions vague, and we waited 15 min outside the locked door waiting for a reply from the host. While there is a kitchen, it is not adequately stocked to cook a meal, forcing us to eat out. The ability to cook was why we booked a place with a kitchen at all. The bed was comfortable, however the pillows were not and bedroom lighting was one bedside light. We raised our issues with the host within 24 hrs and they did not resolve the issues to our satisfaction.
We booked the apartment in March 2026. At the time, the reviews were almost exclusively 10/10. Unfortunately, we were very dissatisfied and then found several reviews that reflected the condition of the apartment from our point of view: Check-in was initially more complicated: several codes, but solvable. The kitchen is very poorly equipped: 3 different mugs, the few knives and forks all wobbled. One has the feeling that things have been collected from leftover stocks. Some lamps didn't work at all/switches didn't work, the bedroom had fairy lights that were reminiscent of the red light district. There was a lack of storage space everywhere. A small shelf in the bathroom would be nice, so all the toiletries were on the narrow edge of the sink.A lot of things can certainly be changed by the landlord at short notice: adjust the furnishings accordingly, get 2 small tables for the bed and sofa area, the bed sags in the middle: So you always meet in the middle of the bed, the kettle gets calcified. One thing that certainly cannot be changed is that it is very loud from outside: trains with 100 cars are constantly rattling, often fire engines, motorcycles and cars, as if the windows were open. Certainly all windows/balcony doors in the house are not soundproofed. But especially compared to the other apartments that we rented through others, you can give a maximum of 3 stars.Very nice: the surroundings and the Italian restaurant in the ground floor
I am sure this is a nice apartment, but this was the oddest VRBO experience I have ever had.I booked this apartment a few months ago. When I was getting ready for my trip, I discovered that the host had switched apartments. I only found out the day before my arrival when I contacted the host to confirm the entry details from my reservation and was told they would not work. When I checked the listing, I realized it was now a completely different apartment in a different location, on a different floor, with different entry instructions. The two apartments were comparable, but I had specifically booked the original unit because it was in the same building as someone I was visiting. Because of that, I wanted to cancel.I called VRBO directly to handle this given how odd the situation was. They were excellent. Their customer service team was very helpful and arranged a different accommodation for me. The replacement was more expensive, but VRBO covered the additional cost.In the end, everything worked out well. So, this is not really a review of the apartment itself. Rather, it is a review of the experience of not being able to stay in the apartment I originally booked.
I enjoy meeting people from all walks of life. Hosting gives me the chance to share my space and create a warm, welcoming experience for every guest.
