About the host
Hosted by Anne-Marie
We’ve been living in the Macedon Ranges since 2006, and bought the cottage in 2013, with the view of building the dream home on the acerage at the back. It had a planning permit for a house at the time.
Life threw us some curveballs and the decision was made to carefully restore the cottage and rent it out full time.
In 2021, I decided to sell the cottage, a post Covid move, and to facilitate this, decided to set it up as a short term stay accomodation, to give flexibility in viewings.
As it turned out, I so enjoyed the setting up of the cottage, and included some period furniture pieces, artworks by some local artists, some pre-loved, and some new, furnishings to create an ambience of comfort, peacefulness and some history that could be shared, and that the cottage deserved.

Why they chose this property
We loved the fact that there exists the “secret garden” at the back of the cottage, that no one would really expect. Three extra acres running down to Turritable Creek and a small weir from yesteryear - very peaceful and magical.
What makes this property unique
The history as the first post office and general store on the Mount give it a unique place in the Victorian settlement history of the 1870’s. The area was sought after due to the cooler climate and clean air for the Melbournians to escape the hot summers. This is why many of the older estates have the English feel to the garden settings and the roads lined with oaks and elms.
Needless to say, the autumn leaves make the Mount burst with colours of red, gold and purple.
