About this property
Work Remote in Paradise on North Creek
This is our dream retirement home. When we are there, we feel like we are in the middle of nowhere and all our stress goes away. In reality we are close to everything.. We are only 1 mile from the entrance to Gore Mountain.
The house boasts an open floor plan. Every room has a view of either the North Creek or Gore Mountain.
I don't know what I love better the outside or the inside. We have a stone patio with a custom stone fire pit just off the kitchen in the backyard.. Although, there is a Weber gas grill with a sear burner, sometimes I prefer cooking over the fire. We enjoy having a fire and watching the fireflies, listening to the crickets and frogs and watching the stars at night.
This property has not only more than 550 feet of frontage on the North Creek, we actually own the Creek bed and the hill on the other side of the Creek as well. This gives us great privacy. Our portion of the creek includes our own natural pool area which is chest deep. Sometimes, I swim a little. It is sort of like an infinity pool.
I really enjoy the rapids. I stick a chair in the creek and soak my feet while drinking my morning coffee, unless I decide to enjoy my coffee on the patio. Sometimes, in the afternoon I will place a chair in the creek and soak my feet in the Rapids after I go hiking or bike riding. It is very soothing. An adult beverage tastes especially good at this time.
We get to see a lot of nature. We've seen deer, including a fawn, songbird's, herons, ducks, mergansers, hawks, squirrels, and even a mink from our windows.
We just upgraded the kitchen with new GE Café appliances. We also installed a new custom-built wet bar in the basement with another large refrigerator. Yes, we have granite countertops. It has garnet in it. It came from the local mine.
After much aggravation, we are able to get high-speed fiberoptic Internet. Now we can work remotely with no issues. Our Internet speed is faster here than at my office. We have a WiFi booster. Sometimes I work on the patio. My wife and I can both work online at the same time with no issues. Be aware that there is no cell phone signal. However, if you set your cellphone to run through the internet it works fine. We also have a telephone land line .
We have geothermal air-conditioning and heating. We have a custom Stone fireplace. We let the kids play their games in the finished walk out basement.
Although you may not really think about it as being important, being close to , about 2 or 3 miles from North Creek is very beneficial. North Creek is the last outpost of civilization before the complete wilderness of the Adirondacks. This means you will have access to a grocery store that is part of the major chain, a liquor store, a bakery, a wine store, a pharmacy, several bars and restaurants, gas stations a hardware store, and numerous other businesses. This means you can get what you want without having to drive forever. Likewise, if you want something special like custom cuts of “prime” beef or pork you can get it by traveling to Warrensburg which is only 20 minutes away.
There are lots of things to see and do in the Adirondacks. There is, walking,, hiking,, swimming,, boating, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, fishing, the high peaks, museums, historical places, amusements, birding, tennis, and golf available. There are free mountain bike trails, hiking trails and town Beach, just down the road from our house. For the more adventuresome, there is a classic, old school swimming hole, the black hole, which has cliff jumping a few miles away.
There is a nice waterfall about a mile and 1/2 from our house. We generally walk there every other day. If we don't feel like relaxing, we can always find something fun to do..
We love it here and have decided to share it. We hope you love it too.

Why they chose this property
We were looking for ski house for our family. We found a distressed property that was only 1 mile from Gore Mt. When I saw the mini waterfall in the North Creek in the backyard I decided that it was perfect. After much work, it was complicated we purchased the property. We were going to do a gut rehab but with the APA and Encon and the condition of the property we ripped off the back room, it really was stream side, and tore the house down to the foundation . We had an architect design an addition and a living space that fit in the foundation. We should of tore the whole thing down but by not doing so it has more character and a more unique design. For example the stairs had to turn to fit. The architect made a problem a centerpiece. The addition is made of polystel; foam blocks filed with poured concrete Effectively R55. Important for a ski house. Our excavator asked for permission to do his thing and if we didn’t like it, it was on him. He built the stone wall supporting the patio.
Our neighbors father was a master stone mason. He built our fireplace. Sometimes he only laid 5 stones in a day. It took the most time to build. I have been told that the stone company had someone take some pictures of our fireplace and now they precut their stones to copy our fireplace. I guess I should be flattered.
The creek is very private. After several years I was able to buy the neighboring lot so that I have a buffer. Sometimes we tube down creek to the town beach.
The open floor plan with the interior fireplace works great. Not too open, not to tight ,just right.
When we had it appraised the feedback I received from the appraiser who has seen a lot of houses was that it was the perfect house that the appraiser would want to own. She noticed the custom windows. She noticed that every detail was thought through.

What makes this property unique
This house is just right. It is private yet close to amenities. It has the rushing waters of the creek and the sounds of the crickets and frogs to lull you to sleep if you want to leave your windows open. It has fiber optic internet so that you are connected even though you are in the mountains. The appliances are new. Plenty of space but not empty. Just right.
