This was the best place we ever stayed. Owners are great. The cabin is super clean. Kitchen is well stocked. Every detail is thought about . There are even emergency smores containers!
If you want tranquility and calm this is the place for you! The cabin is very clean and well appointed with all the amenities one could ask. Tim and Janine are very kind and responsive. Our stay at this VRBO was nothing less than exceptional. APlan on going back!
Cabin was delightfully cozy, with lots of little touches to make our stay comfortable, easy and fun. Location is very quiet and private; hosts' home is up the road a bit, and there is another cabin nearby but behind a tall privacy fence (an incredibly creative and beautiful privacy fence!). Great place to stay with a dog, with lots of safe outdoor play space, and good dog-walking on a super-quiet dirt road. Hosts own a large parcel of woodland, also available for hiking/walking. The lovely Vrbo listing photos are entirely accurate, but the cabin is even better in person!
Our stay at the Huntress Cabin, located on the same property as one other rental and the homeowner’s house, made for the perfect Adirondack weekend! The cabin was immaculately clean and had every amenity a renter could ever hope to have. Between our chats with the owners, our visits with with the menagerie of animals, and our jaunt to nearby Harrisburg Lake to fish, there’s nothing we would change. Can’t wait to come back!
This was an amazing trip for my family. First off, let me say, both Jim and Janine and great hosts. We couldn’t ask for friendlier, more hospitable hosts. The cabin had everything you could ask for and more. The cabin was so clean and cozy. The grounds were beautiful, tranquil and picturesque. It literally looked like a snapshot from a postcard. The only complaint is we couldn’t stay longer. We felt at home and didn’t want to leave. We will be back to make even more memories. Thank you Jim and Janine for providing us with an opportunity to be in God’s country.
The hosts were extremely welcoming and helpful. They provided excellent directions, turned the heat and lights on for us since we arrived late in the night, and they left us a nice hand written welcome card, local beer and a frozen pizza too! The Huntress Cabin is the perfect blend of rustic luxury. The place had been gutted to the studs, so everything is brand new and so so clean inside!! The little touches like lights in the closets, the well appointed kitchen with everything you could ever need, books, movies, travel guides etc etc. It really is a dream cabin and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was particularly cold the 2 nights we stayed and the addition of an electric heater was very thoughtful and appreciated. We loved the peacefulness, serenity and quiet here. We enjoyed using the wood stove (which was supplied with wood, kindling and a lighter), and watching the gentle snowflakes fall each day was just magical. Since you have to walk across a little bridge to get to the cabin, the availability of a sled to put your luggage and gear in to use was very helpful and handy. The brand new cordless blinds were gorgeous and easy to use. And every single light switch was labeled as was some kitchen and bathroom cabinets, making it very easy to find things for a comfortable stay. Everything about this place is cozy and wonderful, and the attention to detail in the hand hewn walls, down to the refinished floors, and Adirondack decor shows & shines here.

About the host
Hosted by Janine Van Norman
Tim and Janine are retired U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service wildlife biologists who spent their careers working on international wildlife issues. They bought a 617 acre property in the Adirondacks to fulfill their dream of living sustainably, growing food using permaculture practices and learning forest farming.

Why they chose this property
We chose Stony Creek because we love the mountains, and the year-round beauty of the Adirondacks. The Adirondacks have a "forever wild" clause that ensures that they will be protected from over-development in perpetuity, which we love.
What makes this property unique
Our 617 acre property is at least 150 years old, with one family owning it as a family camp for 80 years. We have a New York State designated trout stream, a pond (with baby trout!), and a gorgeous view of Bald Head Mountain just outside the cabin. It truly is the perfect place to go play at Lake George or surrounding areas, and then come home to a relaxing, rustic retreat, with all the amenities of home.
