About this property
Casa rosa-Simple Italian house in stunning Puglia
Our home is a quaint two storey rock house build 600 years ago.The first floor is an open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge room with a fireplace, full oven, standing fridge and freezer and kitchen equipment. The pretty bathroom has an old-style window seat to sit and wash over the bath while enjoying view.
The light enters into the kitchen from the tall window that opens out to the balcony, offering a beautiful view over the Valle di San Francesco. The day begins and ends with the tinkling of cowbells as the goats and dairy cows are herded home. The local train line lies beneath with fields of olive trees and local farmers vegetable plots beyond. Every evening, the sunset can be enjoyed and you can watch the moon rising while enjoying the cool breeze famously known as “il turano”.Taking the steep stairs to the second floor, you will find a large attic room with another sun-filled window balcony and low wooden beams. This is where all the beds are located together in a communal open-plan sleeping area. The house is conveniently located only 3mins walk from the main piazza of the town, where there is a local supermarket and daily local farmers markets, where fresh and cheap fruit and veggies, cheese, bread, olives, olive oil, pasta sauce and more can be bought directly from the producers.
The house is in the last row of the village centre, giving the full view onto nature yet being so close to town. Walking a few minutes deeper towards the historical centre will take you down pretty white lanes and archways, a church and many secret piazzas lined with plants and flowers, giving you the experience of being peacefully lost in medieval times of a world without vehicles and only the sounds and smells of Italian cuisine being cooked for the sacred daily event of lunch or dinner.
This town comes alive in summer with nightly activities of music, dance and food fairs. It is a traditional southern Italian town where family members who have moved and lived in the north return to their roots in the long summer to spend time at the beach and with family. It is not on the tourist train and while staying here you will gain a true experience of life in Italy, including very friendly and curious neighbours, evening passaeggiata’s, ghost areas of the old town, revamped old houses and lots of coffee, pastries and pizza at incredible prices. If you’re happy to be taken on a real-life journey and to truly feel Italy and learn sone basic Italian, this is the place for you.
