About this property
Nova Scotia waterfront retreat with sauna and hot tub!
Drop anchor in the sheltered calm of Salt & Stone Retreat. Best for couples and small groups up to six, this spectacular seaside refuge in rocky Schooner Cove offers thoughtfully-designed accommodations with luxurious amenities - private waterfront on an ocean cove, hot tub, sauna, deck living at its best with barbecue, fire table, and diving off the dock -- all within close reach of Lunenburg. It's truly stunning here. Relax and immerse yourself in the wild beauty of the coast.
The moment you step foot onto the grounds of Salt & Stone, vacation begins.
The waterfront property is a mere 10 minute drive from Lunenburg and tucked into tranquil Schooner Cove. This is home to families of fishers and teaming with wildlife including a delightful array of seabirds.
Within walking distance of the house is the hidden gem of Blue Rocks, a picturesque and quiet fishing village that offers kayak rentals and photo opportunities. Breathtaking Hirtle's Beach and hiking at Gaff Point is 30 minutes away by car. Close by, the Lahave Ferry leads you to the iconic Lahave Bakery and a bit farther along, to the white sand and surf of Crescent, Risser's and Green Bay beaches. There's so much more to explore in the area including of course, the world Heritage Site of Lunenburg.
Inside the light-filled main 2 bedroom house, there are more windows than walls with water views a plenty. The main floor sports a nautical vibe and provides loads of space to lounge and dine with seating around the dining table for at least six. You'll be drawn to the sun room for your morning cup or at any time of the day for a moment of quiet.
The kitchen is a designer's dream equipped with high-end appliances and lots of room to create and cook. Completing the main floor is a sweet half bath & handy laundry space. Round the corner to an outdoor shower that gets A LOT of use from May to November.
Upstairs on the second floor is an expansive master bedroom outfitted with a comfy King-sized bed and charming reading nook with views of the cove. Bedroom # 2 is lovely and comes with a Queen bed and a window that captures first morning light. Rounding things out on this floor is a gorgeous bathroom with a deep soaker tub and luscious walk-in tiled shower. The toilet is the best seat in the house with views of the cove you'll absolutely need to see to believe!
Steps from the house is a charming studio that can accommodate two for sleeping.(no bathroom but close enough to the main house to duck into main floor half-bath)
The front of the main house faces the sea where the real show unfolds with Mother Nature in charge. To take it all in, there's expansive decking for lounging, dining, and jumping off points for swimming. At the end of the wharf the cool water is deep at 11 feet, so diving is quite safe - and highly recommended!
The dock is outfitted with a number of Adirondack chairs, and is just the right perch to enjoy the cove and take in the sunset at happy hour.
Positioned alongside the house is a large barbecue and a massive pot with its own burner for an old-fashioned outdoor lobster boil. (Ask me about local suppliers of live lobster.)
For deep relaxation there's a fantastic hot tub and sauna for the the true spa experience.
If you're so inclined, bring your own kayak and paddle board and explore the rustic beauty of Schooner Cove.
**Please note that water is stored in rain-water fed cisterns (tanks) located on the property. This water is filtered and safe to drink. During drought we get water delivered but still ask our guests to practise conservation.**
