About this property

Outdoor activities paradise, all seasons. True peace in the Upper Peninsula.

The outdoors await for year round relaxation. The Bear Paw vacation home is situated on over two acres of land with 200' of private shoreline overlooking Lake Superior for swimming, wading, or just sitting and listening to the waves lap upon the shore. The home has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a complete kitchen with a dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, snack bar, and a laundry area with a washer and dryer. The spacious living area has comfortable couches, TV w DVD player, wifi,, and a gas fireplace. The large dining table in front of the patio door seats 6 guests and offers a wonderful view over Keweenaw Bay.

Sliding doors lead outside to the deck with a gas grill for outdoor cooking (Bring your own lawn chairs). There is a horseshoe pit and a fire pit. An ideal spot for relaxing and enjoying the fantastic view. Please note in the winter deck is not maintained but there are shovels available.

The upper level has 2 bedrooms - one king and one queen sized bed along with a full bathroom. The lower level has a queen sized bed along with a full bathroom. The lower level also has an electric sauna, bar area and some games. The perfect place for relaxing after a busy day. Linens, toilet paper, and paper toweling are provided for our guests.

Bear Paw Vacation home is located in a wooded area 4 miles north Aura, a Finnish farming community and at the edge of the Huron Mountains. Back roads and logging trails dot the area for interesting hiking, mountain biking, and riding adventures on your ATV. Hikers might like to climb Mt. Arvon, the highest point in Michigan and enjoy the scenic view. The trail is marked, but you might want to pick up a map at the Tourism Bureau in L’Anse.

Nearby waterfalls, Big Eric’s Falls, Silver Falls, and the Slate River waterfalls offer year round scenic beauty. Golfers will find a 9-hole course in L’Anse and there is a casino in Baraga.

Fishing is great on Lake Superior for salmon and lake trout or on the several nearby rivers and streams for steelhead, walleye, bass, perch, and many other species of fish. There is a boat launch at the base of Huron Bay or in L’Anse and a marina nearby. There are also lots of public lands nearby for hunting small and large game.

Winter brings tons of snow to the L’Anse area and snowmobile trails are short distance from the home. Easy trail access along the shoulder of the road to the trailhead and the fun begins as you ride through this picturesque wilderness area. Take the exciting trail through the hills of the Huron Mountains to Big Bay for lunch or head down to L’Anse and over to the Bill Nicholls Trail. This trail takes you towards Ontonagon or you can ride up into the Keweenaw Peninsula.

Cross-country skiers will enjoy the 10 miles of groomed marked trails at Pinery Lake Ski Pathway near L’Anse with trails for novice to advanced skiers.
Bring your snowshoes and have some fun tromping through the deep snow in the nearby woods.

The home has a long driveway which can accommodate your boat, ORV, and snowmobile trailers. In winter driveway is plowed if over 4 inches of snow so 4x4 is recommended.

Directions: Bear Paw home is located 15 miles northeast of L’Anse. Take Skanee Road east of L’Anse for 8 miles. Turn left of Town Line Road and go 5 miles to Pt. Abbaye Road. Turn right and go 2 miles to Ravenswood.

If you're looking for a quiet, well-equipped oasis right on the bay, this is your spot. The deck overlooks the water view, and there is a bench down by the water if you want to get closer. If you're bringing a trailer, note that the last mile or so to the house is a bit tricky to navigate due to a curve on a hill. Also, expect to need a car wash as the last miles of road to the house are gravel. It's about a half hour to town, so be sure to pack in what you need. And, watch out for deer. They're clearly used to lazily grazing in the yards along the way too and from the house. Our dog loved exploring the yard and the beach.

Secluded Superior Stay

Nice, secluded home away from the hustle and bustle. Beautiful site on Lake Superior. A little bit of a drive with some unpaved roads, but a great place to stay!

Very Remote

The place is very remote which makes for some amazing night sky viewing nights! We saw the Milky Way, the northern lights, and a meteor shower! The town of L'anse is super cute too, so definitely recommend visiting the town and talking with the locals. The neighbors are also very friendly.

Wish we lived here permanently!

Quiet solitude is what we wanted & what we got. Stocked kitchen allowed us to make a full thanksgiving dinner. Loved the snowy beach with our dogs; hiking, waterfalling, exploring villages. The sauna was used daily! If you want peaceful seclusion, this is the place! Would absolutely return and recommend! The Made a complete thanksgiving dinner!

Lots of new updates to the home, wrap around deck, spacious. Lots of of room to spread out. Easy walk to the lakeshore, lots of sand about 10 yards out this year! Lake Superior is beautiful and clear as always.

Take a chance on L'Anse

This is a beautiful property, with a stunning view of Keweenaw Bay. It's a little off the beaten path, but, if R&R is your major goal, this is definitely the place! L'Anse is a quaint town, with an interesting cafe, Cafe L'Anse, that has a lovely gift shop attached. Their cinnamon rolls are delicious!

Great getaway!

We loved staying here! We traveled to Copper Harbor, Houghton, porcupine mtns, and Iron mtn! All about 1.5-2 hrs away. Loved being on the water, went out and watched the sunset every night! Never gets old. Super Rocky but kids had water shoes and enjoyed. 2nd Sand beach is super close and very nice!!

End of summer friends trip

The location was perfect for what we were looking for Easy path to the lake for what we found had several moods during our trip Hot weather calm lake Windy cool rough lake Allowed us to see the clear waters and swim off shore one day while listening to the waves was relaxing the next We visited nearby towns and enjoyed the variety of wildlife on our journey Deer Turkey Sandhills cranes to name some The house was comfy and with three bedrooms and two baths we were happy with everything set up It’s a drive to the grocery store so I would suggest stopping on your way in I’m missing the peaceful views as we are still traveling back to the real world 😀

Wonderful!

We loved this place! It was our last stop on the Lake Superior Circle tour. It's a really peaceful spot away from traffic noise. There are a few neighbors but not real close and you don't see them so it feels very private. The house is decorated nicely with plenty of comfortable seating options. We do wish there was a larger spot cleared of brush along the shoreline and that the swing/bench were in better condition (didn't really feel safe to sit on.), but brought our own chair to sit by the shore. Really beautiful sunsets over the Keewenaw Peninsula!

Beautiful peaceful

The house was very nice, we absolutely loved the new floors and the fireplace was so easy to use. Matt warned us that the hot tub was not working but we were very grateful that it was emptied, we didn’t use the basement except for laundry. I walked the neighborhood every day and enjoyed the beautiful views & nature. We look forward to visiting again next time we go up north. This is a true treasure in the woods!

Great Place to Get Away From it All

Overall our family of 4 enjoyed our stay at this property. The home is clean and decorated nicely, with amazing sunsets over Lake Superior, buried in the trees on a very quiet little road that ends just past the house. It was nice having 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths. The property owner is very responsive and easy to work with. We enjoyed the rocky beach out front (not suitable for everyone to get to the water, there are no real steps but rather a pile of slab rocks that do shift), and highly recommend a trip to second sand beach about 15 minutes away. It was hot (about 90) during a couple days of our stay and we did miss having air conditioning, however imagine this is not a frequent occurrence. Nice furnishings but we did wish the beds were more comfortable. I’ve rented many VRBOs on various lakes and oceans, for the price this one provides good value.

Wonderful Stay!

We wanted a little escape, and this was perfect! The place was very clean, had everything we needed to make food, and we were able to do a load of laundry to be able to pack a bit lighter. The views were absolutely gorgeous! No WiFi or cable in the cabin, which was just fine by us. We played the board games we brought by the fireplace. There was info about the area, which we didn’t really need this trip but would be helpful if you weren’t just looking to stay in a cozy cabin and do some snowshoeing. Would Definitely stay here again, and we hope to be back during the other seasons! Thank you for a wonderful escape.

The Bear Paw Vacation Home

My husband and I had a very relaxing time in this vacation home. We love the upper peninsula. We’ve stayed in other rentals, but this was the best so far. It was clean, the decor was very cool. I love rocks and bears. You had both. The fireplace was cozy, and the view was really pretty with the trees all covered in snow. I took so many pictures. Anyway, thank you so much for a nice vacation week. We did end up leaving a day early because we didn’t want to drive in hazardous snow conditions that were being predicted.

Beautiful home!

The whole property was amazing. Quiet. Peaceful. Absolutely no issues with our stay. Highly recommend this place. The plus was not having wifi or cable/satellite! The town was pleasant and polite. Did a little site seeing. All the fall colors were still bright and beautiful! I thank you for sharing your home!
