Needs a good deep clean
Was hoping the issues were addressed in open communication with the property manager/owner. We had several complaints. We got through the week and tried to remedy the uncleanliness ourselves. I would 100% stay at Sunset Island again, just not at this property.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While we’re very glad to hear that you enjoyed Sunset Island and would return to the community, we are truly sorry that this particular property did not meet your expectations.
We take cleanliness extremely seriously, and we regret that the home was not in the condition it should have been upon your arrival. Your experience does not reflect the standards we aim to uphold. We also apologize that our communication did not fully address your concerns during your stay — we understand how disappointing that can be.
Please know that your comments have been shared directly with our cleaning team and maintenance staff, and a deep clean has already been scheduled to ensure the property is brought back to the level of quality guests deserve.
We sincerely appreciate your honesty and will use your feedback to improve. We hope you’ll consider giving another one of our Sunset Island properties a chance in the future, as we would love the opportunity to provide you with a much better experience.
My daughter booked/PAID IN FULL a VRBO property in 5/2024 for a 7/2025 stay. 5 hrs b4 check-in she called to let them know we're checking in after 5pm. 1st her reservation couldn't be found then she was redirected to the mgmt company. Long story short they over booked! But the next renters did not book till 2/2025. Seems the White customers got the property and the Blacks were given a smaller less accommodating property as an offer. My daughter questioned how could she have PAID IN FULL recieved a confirmation May 2024 and a new customer (who stated the slways go but couldnt get their USUAL spot and was offered my daughter's rental FEB 2024) We had grown ppl sleeping in bunk beds, single MEN sharing beds (orginal property had double beds) not enough beds so cots were delivered. It was the worst experience. Then just about EVERY1 caught covid in the house. We found the rooms to have not been cleaned, shower curtins were covered in soap scum. There were NEW liners under the sink (guess we were supposed to change them. A majority of the home had to go to urgent care (which ins was not accepted so fee was paid out of pocket) Most of us actually left a day early bc most of the house was sick. We told her to NEVER go thru VRBO for a placecon Sunset Island. She was reimbursed by management and vrbo and had to sign something that SHE couldn't leave a bad review or make any SM comments. But that does NOT apply to me! It was practically the WORST!

MICE!!!
Space is large enough for 3 families.
However, we are majorly disappointed that we encountered not 1 but 2 mice in the kitchen area. Behind the fridge are piles of mouse poops. The owner/rental company said they would send an exterminator out. We never had any followup from that. They said they are aware of the mouse situation from the prior winter.
Home amenities were majorly lacking. For example, the coffee maker did not have a coffee pot so you literally had to use a saucepan to make coffee. Barely any cooking tools which made making meals difficult. For example No pot holders or measuring cups. The knives were nonfunctional.
Home was filthy. The carpets need a deep cleaning and the air vents are very dirty. Floors will make bare feet black.
On the upper floors none of the exterior doors lock so if there is a breeze the doors will fly open.
In one of the bedrooms the comforters smelled like throw up. It did not dissipate fully after washing the comforters. I suspect the throw up was on the carpet or bed skirt.
We received 6 passes for the gym/ pool but at this high price we should receive enough passes for the total number of people in the house. This cost us an additional 280 for these.
The outdoor grill was a tiny charcoal grill which is not adequate for the number of people staying in the house.
Location of home and property is nice. Outdoor pool is great. The community had a small general store. The property is walkable, safe and scenic.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We sincerely apologize for the experience you had during your stay. This is far from the standard we expect for our homes, and we understand how upsetting and inconvenient these issues must have been for you and your family.
We are especially sorry for the pest concerns you encountered. While Sunset Island is a waterfront community where occasional seasonal activity can happen, the conditions you described are unacceptable. We regret that you did not receive timely follow-up, and we are taking immediate steps to ensure communication and response times are improved. A full inspection and treatment have already been scheduled, along with preventative measures to ensure this does not recur.
We also appreciate your honest feedback regarding the kitchen supplies, cleanliness, linens, and maintenance items such as door locks and carpets. These items should have been in proper working order and fully stocked prior to your arrival, and it is clear the property fell short on multiple fronts. We have already initiated a complete restock of missing kitchen essentials, evaluations of all appliances and doors, and a deep clean—including carpets, vents, and flooring.
Regarding the amenity passes, these are issued per Sunset Island community policy, but we understand the frustration and will review how we communicate this information so guests are better prepared.
Your comments are incredibly valuable, and though we are disappointed that this stay did not meet expectations, we appreciate you bringing these matters to our attention so they can be corrected immediately. We’re glad you enjoyed the location and the community itself, and we hope you might consider giving us another opportunity in the future to provide you with the level of quality and comfort our guests deserve.
The size and location of your property worked very we for our family of 9 (6 adults and 3 kids).
Unfortunately, the property was definitely not as clean as we would have liked. It did not appear as though the air filters had been changed or vents cleaned in quite some time.
We did find the pool to be very crowded most days, making it difficult to find chairs. We also found the majority of the pool staff to be unfriendly.
Renovations weren’t complete in time at the original home we booked but the Sunset Rep was so awesome and put us in another home. Super clean and beautiful. We stay every here and will definitely be renting from sunset next year!
Upscale, but crowded, community in the heart of the Ocean City peninsula
Overall we enjoyed our stay, but there are several reasons we would not return to this property or this area. The house itself is nicely decorated and spacious, but it was not as clean as one would hope. The floors felt a bit tacky, especially in the kitchen. The rugs in the common areas were stained and dirty looking. One of the upstairs bathrooms had hair on the bathmat and in the shower. Grilling was not optimal -- only allowed in the back alley, which is fine, but the grill itself was not in great shape, and difficult to control the heat on. The coffee maker was a cheap old one that seemed as if it had been picked up at a garage sale, and it leaked out of the bottom. I would expect a better coffee maker for the amount that we paid for our week's stay. We had to either bring our own linens or rent them, which again seems ridiculous considering the cost of renting the house. The first floor bedroom is listed as a double, but did not fit our double sheets, so we had to purchase new queen sheets the first day.
The Sunset Island community is nice, but the pool and beach areas are not really big enough for the number of houses and condos, and therefore are always really crowded. If people have young children, they would probably enjoy it. We hoped to swim in the bay from the private beaches, but we apparently timed our vacation for when there are baby jellyfish washing ashore, and they sting! Finally, for those who know and love Ocean City, they know what they are getting into. It was our first time and we did not like the constant heavy traffic, and the beach itself is rather narrow and much less appealing than any other beach we have been to up and down the East coast. Our family group of nine rated this vacation near the bottom of our various trips.
Enjoyed staying there but I feel the place needs to be upgraded. We had a broken chair and tv was never mounted in the living room. Ants on the porch off the living room. Very annoying. We did get the coffee maker replaced that was not working.. air conditioner system seemed to be very cold in basement and the third floor warm.
House was great. We had 12 people including six children. The house fit our party very well. It was clean and had everything we needed. The listing was accurate. We would definitely stay here again.
We really enjoyed Sunset Island. We wish the store was open every day but it was not a big deal. With the beach, pool and restaurant you really do not need to leave the island if you don’t want to. However, the beach, restaurants, bars, marina, shops and miniature golf are all within walking distance if you want to venture out.
Our only gripe was the facility passes. If the house sleeps 12 you should get 12 passes. It was a bit ridiculous to have to pay an additional $420 for everyone to use the facilities.
