About this property
Welcome to the Nut House
Modern mountain house in the Massanutten Resort. The space has two levels, and is a great place for a family or friends to get together. This has been a project of love, as we have worked to revitalize this family house. We hope you enjoy the downstairs bar, newly renovated bathrooms, and open deck. This home is a five minute drive to the ski slopes, waterpark, horses, golf course, and driving range. It's a great place to relax and enjoy the beautiful mountain. Please note our driveway is very steep, see photos.

We really liked the location of the house. Easy access to great Mountain Views. The house provided a very comfortable and warm place for our family to spend new years.
The house was large enough for everyone in our party to have their own bedroom. It was right in the middle of everything convenient to the waterpark and the ski area.
Elise was very welcoming and was able to answer all questions. She was very prompt in her responses! House was in great condition and was very close to activities. Would definitely recommend this home!
We enjoyed a beautiful Fall weekend at the Nut House. The scenery was gorgeous and the location convenient to JMU. The house was cozy with plenty of room for everyone. Just wish we could have stayed longer than a weekend!
We enjoyed gathering with our family for vacation. There was plenty of room for us all! It is a lovely, peaceful, relaxing home. Thanks for sharing it!
Property was as expected. Accurate description. The hill is steep. My family had a wonderful time.

Nice house!
The property is located in a beautiful part of Virginia. The owners were very friendly and helpful. My only complaints were that there were no dish clothes or towels to clean or dry the dishes and the upstairs was very dusty. We found food under the beds.

Hi Joel,
First, I am sorry you felt your experience was anything less than perfect. I am sending you a PM, please let me know if I can do anything further to resolve your comments.
I am glad that the space, size, set up and location worked for your group. We had not hosted 10 before, so I am glad to know it was comfortable for you.
Dust/Crumbs are absolutely not OK, and does not meet my expectations. Surface dust is likely from the residue from our cleaning service, a disinfectant is dispersed via steamer to hard/soft surfaces. Sometimes it creates a dust/film will set on surfaces. I usually catch those things when I do the walk through, but I am out of commission for a few weeks as I am in a leg cast.
Since my husband is doing all the work right now, I realized he needs a better list than the one I wrote, which say 2 things on it: 1. wine 2. coffee. Though those things are clearly important, I think we need a walk through checklist. I am working on that now and have scheduled a meeting with our cleaning team.
We do keep additional towels in the hall closets. At this time, I made some notes on extra linens/supplies at this time. I have added kitchen towels to the checklist.
I am working to address your concerns and hope we can surprise you with fresh updates in a future stay.
Thanks for choosing our home and for telling me of your experience.

The house was well-stocked with all of your basic everyday needs. Plenty of space for everyone to spread out and relax. The porch in the back of the house was our favorite hang out spot. Everyday we enjoyed watching the deer. We even got to see fawns the one evening. Would highly recommend for larger families!
The house was perfect for myself, husband and 3 kids. So much space that we weren't on top of each other. Quiet neighborhood. One night my 7 year old played with the little boy across street for over an hour. Great location. Zip lining was so fun and the c&m carriage ride is a must do. Everything was perfect. We had 2 deer eatting in the back yard, lizard hanging out on the deck, chipmunk playing on the rocks and a turtle.
We really enjoyed our stay here. The bedrooms were comfortable and the layout was great for our needs. Very clean, spacious, had a lot of amenities, great location, indoor and outdoor eating options, and great communication with the host. Dissappointed about the no shower in master bathroom, only two tv's (main areas), no bunk bed options (for kid option), small grill, and huge hill for driveway (make sure you have 4 wheel drive). We will definitely rent again from this host because despite of the dissappointments we know not everywhere is a perfect stay and great things outweighed the not so great things! It worked for us!
Hi Tyler! I am confused. You said how beautiful the house was and we communicated within minutes of any question you had prior and during your stay. I'm sorry you are upset that we were not able to accommodate your request to refund you part of the cleaning fee because you didn't use the whole house. But again, you requested this AFTER your stay and AFTER we already paid our cleaning staff. Best of luck!

The home was well equipped and had everything and more than we needed. It was a terrific venue to host our family for a tubing adventure at Massanutten. The property owner was very responsive and helpful. Highly recommend!
My family visited for spring break and absolutely loved the home and it’s location. It is close to just about anything you could want to do (resort amenities, hiking, stores, etc.) The home itself was beautiful. We actually miss it. Hoping to come back and visit again in the future.
Greetings,
Thank you for allowing me to rent your property June 18-21, 2021. I would like to address a few issues I wasn't pleased with while staying at your property.
1. My family and I had little to no hot water to bathe. We shouldn't had to boil water to take a hot bath.
2. The wifi stopped working before we checked out. Our check out time was 11am. The wifi was disconnected 7-8hrs before our check out time.
3. The beds were very uncomfortable. The mattresses in several rooms were old and worn out. To the point the mattresses felt like you were sinking while sleeping.
These issues are not acceptable. My family and I visit Massanutten resorts several times a year and never experienced these issues with other properties. While on vacation we like to get our monies worth. I definitely don't feel like the price I paid for your home was worth the issues.

Hey JoAnn, it was good to catch up with you today on our call. As I mentioned. I do understand where you are coming from.
However, we are a home and not a hotel.
We just do not have the abundance of hot water a hotel has. As I mentioned when we spoke on your second day, it takes time for an electric hot water tank to refill. I do think it was a big mistake to accept a group of 10 people and that was my fault. I truly did not think there would be an issue as we have had that number in the past. But when lots of little ones are taking baths, it does tend to use more water than the average shower.
We also noticed the wifi was off, as our security system alerted us. When we checked on the house, I found the router disconnected. My initial thought is that someone bumped it- as it is in the living room.
2 beds were purchased in the last year. But if you are uncomfortable, you are uncomfortable- no competing with that.
I am so sorry you are unhappy and wish I could have better assisted you while you were on the property rather than after the fact.
One of our best experiences with booking, communication, check in, etc. We rented the house to host a graduation party for my daughter from JMU and had a fair amount of family and friends for the celebration. In all we had approx 40 people visit for the day and the house, back deck, and screened porch housed everyone with ease and no sense of crowding. The deck was great for cornhole and relaxing. The driveway is very steep but we utilized the street and other parking options. The house needs some updating that the owners are aware of and planning. Overall this house is very spacious and fit our every need and would absolutely rent again.
This property was nice and spacious. As a family on the larger side there was enough space for everyone. This Property is close to every activity. We had little to no issues while staying here. I say little because as noted the driveway is pretty steep and if you have a minivan it will not fit in the garage without taking both spaces and parking at an angle. This was no big deal for us. We visited the day after a snow storm so we were limited to parking but the owners came out before we arrived to assure At least one side of the driveway was accessible. The owners are also very easy to get in touch with.

Why they chose this property
When my husbands mom passed away, we were left with what to do with his childhood home. We spent most of that year renovating and making updates and have decided to try to hang onto it as offering it as a vacation rental. We are grateful for you considering our home as your spot to relax!
