About this property
Charming A-Frame on great fishing lake and state trail
This is cottage is the best of both worlds - both lakeside and trailside. It's ideal for the outdoor family who wants lake access for fishing, kayaking, and boating. Hart Lake (also known as Little Silver Lake) is an all sports lake. Included with this cottage is a canoe and three kayaks which you can take out and go fishing or cruise around the lake. The lakefront is intentionally left alone for fish and wildlife habitat - you'll have plenty of yellow lily pads and Illinois pondweed holding the bass or pike of your dreams! The floating dock is the perfect spot for launching kayaks and canoes, and docking your boat/jet ski which can be launched at the public access. This is not a sugar-sand beachfront, rather, it's been kept in its most natural state to attract creatures big and small.
The A-frame is uniquely situated at the trailhead of the Manistee National Forest, with miles upon miles of ATV/UTV & hiking trails, and small game and waterfowl hunting opportunities. This trail system connects with the Michigan State Snowmobile Trail, and can be the launch point of your adventure for ATV'ing, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, and waterfowl hunting on Unger Lake and others. Whitetail deer, turkey, owls, and many other critters are regular inhabitants of the trail system.
There is ample room for throwing a football and other outdoor games as the lot is very spacious. Pack light because also included are linens, towels, beach towels, all your paper needs, hard wood for fire pit, Wi-Fi, stocked kitchen, flat screen TV and basic cable.
This charming cottage is located only 15 minutes from Cedar Point's Michigan Adventure Amusement Park, 10 minutes from Stonegate Golf Club, 30 minutes from Double JJ Ranch (indoor water park for rainy days), 40 minutes from Silver Lake Sand Dunes, 20 minutes from Muskegon State Park and numerous other attractions, Cedar Point Michigan Adventure Amusement Park (19 minutes), local vegetable stand (4 minutes), local mini-market/grocery complete with everything you need including meat, cheese, candy, supplies, gas and more (6 minutes), seasonal fruit farms, pizza joint (8 minutes), local bar and restaurant (7 minutes), wineries/breweries (25-30 minutes). For the girls, shop in downtown Grand Haven or Whitehall (awesome gift, clothing and specialty food shops).
For nature lovers, the bird calls here are fantastic. This cottage is lovely for those who want a peaceful place to relax, read, hike, cook, or just be. This is an amazing place for kids to fish, swim, roast marshmallows around the camp fire and play on their own beach. Come stay with us!!

Great host. Cabin has plenty of space with great accommodations. Everything was clean and well stocked. Our dislikes were The steep descend/climb to and from the lake and fire pit is a bit treacherous with the steps being in poor shape. The lake was my least favorite part of our trip. I personally found it to be gross and not of much use. Though we won’t be renting this cabin again for our uses. The host was one of the best we have experienced. It’s a perfect place if you just need a place to rest during your travels.
A great property for a quiet getaway. The house is beautifully maintained and has everything you need. It has rustic charm, but with modern comforts - everything was in working order and once we were there, we didn't need to contact the hosts directly because everything was just right. The hosts were incredibly responsive beforehand, answering all questions, and they've also included very clear instructions and tips to ensure that your stay goes smoothly. The property is at the end of the road, so there is a neighbor only to one side (and because of the trees and landscaping, I didn't notice them at all). If you're looking for a place to relax and enjoy nature around you, this is a good spot.
What a hidden gem! A cute A-Frame on a quaint lake with great views but still close to restaurants! like the listing and other reviews stated - this isn’t a swimmable lake from the shore but the fishing is great! The kayaks and canoe offer easy access to the whole lake, the home is clean, cozy and filled with anything you may need! Also, the bird watching is spectacular! In the 30 minutes I was bird watching/listening I recorded 14 different species! The host has great communication with clear instructions! An excellent find for a great price!!
Fun, relaxing place to stay. We caught several bass while out in the lake, and there is horseback riding (Stony Lake Stables) and Lewis Adventure Farm and Zoo not too far away.

Thank you so much, and we're glad you had a good time! Please come back!
Pros: we enjoyed canoeing and kayaking and using the outdoor grill on the deck. They had plenty of blankets and towels and a lot of old movies and a nice deck.Cons: There was a fishy or bad odor we noticed at different times on multiple days during our stay and we couldn’t determine the cause (on the main floor). Also, while sleeping in the basement bedroom in the middle of the night, a rustling/scratching sound was heard in the walls or above or near the closet spaces. Later we found a rodent dropping on the basement floor right in front of a bookcase shelf. Third, while there is an outdoor shower, the propane tank must have been empty as we could not heat the water (in the end we used it only to rinse off feet). Fourthly, while there are multiple beds to accommodate 6-8 people, the bathroom situation is a problem and not so conducive for that many people. The bathroom on the main floor is very small, including a tight space for the shower. For anyone 6 ft or taller this is a challenge (shower head is only about 5 ft high). The full bathroom in the basement has a bathtub only (no shower). We did run into problems with not having enough hot water. Lastly, given the layout/floor plan and the AC ductwork, for summertime, those sleeping upstairs will be warm/hot (even with fans), those on the main floor will be comfortable, and those in the basement will be cold (which is why it was good there were blankets for watching TV and for the bedroom there).
The property was amazing. Great view of the lake, plenty of space, and amazing hosts. The property was exactly what we were looking for with plenty to do in the area and lots of great fishing!
We had a wonderful stay here! Plenty of space and accomodations for our family of 5. Location was great. Swimming and fishing off the pier would have been ideal but "muck" and weeds make it tough. But the kayaks and row boat were amazing and we spent literally hours on the lake in them. And the outdoor shower was a hit with my kids! We had a great stay here!
Overall, it was a nice stay. Sleeps a lot of people which is exactly what we were looking for. I would consider it a good value and the property host were very easy to work with.
This property is a charming place with lots of time to relax, enjoy nature, and spend time on the water.

This truly is a great place to relax and unwind! Located at the end of the road on the west side of Little Silver Lake, you'll be among the few on the lake with pure Manistee National Forest literally right outside your door, with trails running miles through the woods. Lake life on Little Silver is among the very best as well. Enjoy!
The checkin process was easy and the place was very clean and accurate to listing. We were able to find everything that we needed easily. We had a great time in the kayaks and really enjoyed the outdoor shower (which was so great to not track sand and dirt everywhere!). Plenty of games to play and movies to watch. The kids each had their own areas and were very comfortable.
Very quiet and homey place. Had very clear instructions with check in and things regarding the place which was really helpful. Had plenty of supplies and was easy to cook in their kitchen!
This was our second visit to the Sak's cottage. Our large family gathers in the area every July, and this Twin Lake hide-away was perfect for us to decompress in between family activities. Plenty of space, great amenities, beautiful view of Little Siver Lake.
Very glad I picked this place, owners were very nice and always responded in a timely manner. Was a nice quiet place and would definitely come back if given the chance

About the host
Hosted by Michelle A. Sak
Growing up on the South Side of Chicago, Tom learned of this area as a Boy Scout in the 70's while camping out in the summers at Camp Owasippe a short distance away from this cottage. Tom went on to become a Fisheries & Wildlife Biologist for California Department of Fish & Game and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Michelle and Tom bought this cottage after five years of looking for the ideal location to create memories for their three children, friends, and relatives. They wanted a "two-fer", with both lake and trail access - and they got it! They have used the cottage as a launch pad for deer and turkey hunting, fishing, ATV'ing, snowmobiling, and exploring the Manistee National Forest.
Why they chose this property
Create your own family memories! If you're looking for what we were you'll love the place. This cottage is the ideal place for families looking for a true outdoor experience. We have purposely managed our beach and lakefront for fish & wildlife habitat - so please don't expect a "sugar sand" beach for swimming. Bring your boat, jet ski, ATV/UTV, fishing and hunting gear, and binoculars and have at it!
What makes this property unique
Trail head access to the Manistee National Forest for hiking, ATV/UTV/snowmobiling, hunting and viewing wildlife. Lake access for water sports and fishing.
