Heron's Hideaway - Davis Canal fishing dock & kayak launch - dog friendly

Nestled on a private waterfront lot, Heron’s Hideaway has three bedroom, two baths and a backyard that in the evenings lights up like a movie set. This family friendly home is located just a quick bike ride away from the beautiful beaches of Oak Island, restaurants, shopping and groceries. It features a fenced-in yard large enough to keep any pup happy and entertained. Watch the sunset from the fishing pier as you listen to the shrimp jump and the sounds of the tide flowing in and out. Launch kayaks from the floating dock and explore the quiet, serene, wildlife-filled Davis Canal where the blue herons fly overhead. Use the crab pot or cast out a few fishing lines to catch your own dinner - and don’t forget to ring the bell when you make your big catch. Enjoy yourself under the shady oaks of the large backyard. Put an umbrella in your drink and grab a book as you relax on the back deck. Rest on the swing hanging on the crooked oak tree - it is the perfect place to enjoy a cup of hot coffee in the morning as you look out over the canal or stargaze with the fireflies in the evening. Roasting marshmallows over the built in bonfire pit is the perfect end to a relaxing day spent exploring Oak Island. With plenty of room to spread out or get together for a family dinner, this house is truly a great home away from home. Heron's Hideaway is waiting for you!

Special note for boat owners: The dock and floating Roll and Ride shown in the photos can certainly support canoes, kayaks, John-boats and small fishing boats up to 14ft long/8ft wide/2k lbs that can be used in shallow water. Please be advised at low tide the canal can get as shallow as 2-3 feet.
Having said this, there is ample space in the 100ft long driveway to park your boat trailer and drive to one of the many boat launches all over the island. You can quickly be out on the ICW (inter coastal waterway) which gives you water access to the Atlantic Ocean, Lockwood Folly River, Southport or Baldhead Island.

NOTE: As of 4/1/23 from Apr-Sept Oak Island has implemented parking fees, similar to our neighboring beaches, from 9 am-5 pm for all beach parking.
NOTE: there are two security cameras—one in the front yard and one in the back yard.

Love love this property! We felt very special staying here for our beach vacation. Inside, extremely clean, comfortable beds, spacious living room and cute and functional kitchen. Outside, so many areas to enjoy! The back patio, (with awning) the fire pit area, porch swim, gathering area near the dock and the dock itself. We fished and canoed. If you have a golf cart, there’s convenient plug in next to the garage. The outside shower was very clean and popular. Location makes a golf cart so much fun. I cannot recommend this property enough!

It was nice to have a fenced in yard for the dogs. There isn’t much grass in the fenced in part. The kids had a blast fishing in the canal but the fish stole our bait pretty easy. The outdoor shower was amazing after a long day on the beach. The host is amazing and very quick to respond.

Outstanding home with Premier host in beautiful Oak Island, NC! Super accurate property listing! Great location to the beach, ICW and Davis canal! Superb private dock for fishing and kayaking! Close proximity to all the best restaurants in OKI! Easy access for day trip to Southport and to ferry to Bald Island and Fort Fisher! The premier hosts, Dawn and Tommy, provided a great check in and check out list which was very easy to follow!Home was very clean with plenty parking for our vehicles and golf cart!Great communication by the hosts throughout our stay! We felt super lucky to enjoy a last minute trip to this impeccable spot! The house is professionally cleaned between guests, located on a quiet street, and has plenty of parking (great for our trailer small sailboat!) We enjoyed the dock on the canal and hardly saw any other neighbors or light pollution. We threw (licensed!) crab traps and easily explored a ton of nearby new favs. We immediately started planning our next trip! Hosts were amazing about coordinating quickly and sorting some booking questions. Would absolutely stay here again— and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a secluded, pet friendly, spacious house for a peaceful Oak Island getaway.

My husband and I loved the house! It was extremely clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The fenced yard for the dogs is why we chose this home, and it was perfect. The owners are very responsive.  I am very picky, and would definitely book this home again.

Short getaway

This is our favorite place to stay on oak Island! My in-laws live on the island but we love staying on the canal so we always rent this house! Beautiful house and great dock to fish!

Wonderful Vacation!

We had a fantastic stay! The home was extremely clean and comfortable. The backyard area is beautiful and our boys enjoying fishing in the canal. It's an easy 15 minute walk to the beach via either SE 31st or 20th St. We liked the 20th St location best as it seemed to be less crowded during our stay.

Oasis on Oak Island

This is our 4th consecutive vacation at this lovely house & it is just perfect! From morning coffee on the dock to kayaking the canal to walking to the glorious beach-this house has it all! And very responsive hosts.

Our family has vacationed on Oak Island for many years. Our kids have grown up learning to surf and fish on these beaches. We have created many memories here and are so excited to get to share our home with you. It is our hope that this house gives you the opportunity to create family memories of your own.

Why they chose this property

There is no other property like this on Oak Island. The backyard looks like it was created for a movie set with multiple fire pits, lots of comfortable seating, long walkway to the dock lit up with lights. It is truly magical and sure to provide you with a space to enjoy every bit of your vacation here at Oak Island.

What makes this property unique

Kitchen is fully equipped for a big family dinner and the house has several outside features and water activity--like a grill, an outdoor surfboard shower, seasonal flower garden, kayaks and a canoe at no additional cost, and, of course, a shed full of lots of beach equipment. It also has a fantastic wrap around fence so you can bring your pups along to enjoy the scenery. Seasonal gas fireplace is available inside and multiple firepits complete the outside space.
