Perfect getaway for my family
Our stay at Shehawken lake was ideal. The house and location were wonderful. We enjoyed our time together in this cozy relaxing and unwinding by the fire. The kids enjoyed the property and had a fun time playing games in the garage and lounging at the house. The view is amazing, the bedrooms/bathrooms were perfect for our family and the kitchen had everything we needed. Thank you for allowing us to stay and experience the lake and surrounding area!

Relaxing and refreshing
If you need a place to relax, to decompress, to reconnect with nature, this place is for you! We enjoyed kayaking, canoeing, walking, observing the wildlife, watching the sunrises and different images the lake takes on and the amazing living room fireplace. We saw more stars in the nighttime sky than ever in our lives. We enjoyed the solitude, the quiet, and having the lake virtually all to ourselves. Judie is an unbelievably gracious host. The place is very clean; we even had fresh flowers in every room upon our arrival. We will plan to be back here; this place is indeed magical!

I grew up outside of Philadelphia and spent summers here at Shehawken Lake with my family since I was 3 years old. My husband grew up on this property from the time he was born. He was a dairy farmer on this century family farm, until the early 2000's.
When I was about 8 years old I met Bruce. My friends and I used to come up to the barn to play with the calves and kittens and try to help in the barn, it wa more like getting in the way! Eventually, we started dating ! When we got married and planned to live in the farmhouse, his parents (who both grew up in Shehawken and remained here for their entire lives), built this home for themselves down by shoreline. Summers are very busy as the farm is still active in the hay industry.
I love the country life. It's very quiet for the most part. I love trying my hand at gardening. Living on the lake and being near the water is so special! I've grown up on the lake with so many wonderful memories of times swimming, boating, canoeing, kayaking, and sailing. I remeber having picnics in the boats when we were kids. We had to put our potato chips in our peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to keep them from blowing away in the breeze.
I love the idea of no street lights and seeing the open sky at night.
There is something about Shehawken that stirs your soul. The blue skies, the sparkling water and friends who come back each summer. The winters are quiet. I enjoy music and playing the piano for my own pleasure. I am an avid reader of historical fiction, biographies, and mysteries.
I hope to resume my interest in sewing and quilting very soon.
Family is very important to me. I am fortunate my own family still come to vacation at our family cottage across the lake.

Why they chose this property

This property is part of the original family farm which has been in the family for over a century. My husband's parents built this home in 1975. It has such a unique setting along the shoreline. The home was built with convenience and spacious views in mind. It is such a unique setting for a year-round home, we just couldn't part with it. It was interesting after living in the farmhouse which they put in the first electricity and plumbing , my parents in law wanted something very modern and simplistic. Now it seems a little retro. We did completely renovate the house in 2020.
There are several unique settings on the property. Bruce even put in a basketball hoop this past week. There is a separate little area with a hammock and small picnic table. The gazebo has a large outdoor picnic table. The yard to play yard games. The dock for swimming. The lawn out front to sit and relax on the shoreline.
Easy access to boating and kayaking right from the property.
It was a year-round home for my in-laws well into their later years so it has all of the conveniences of a full-time home. My mother-in-law lived to the age of 102 in the house and my father-in-law until almost 95 years of age. Quite the longevity!
At ant rate, its a great, solid house with several amenities you will be sure to enjoy.

What makes this property unique

It is easy to navigate on one floor. There are only a couple of steps up into the house. One can really appreciate the wildlife being in the country and near the water; from bald eagles and blue heron, to turtles, fish and frogs, an occasional beaver and sometime deer or a fox will grace the yard.
The property offers quite a bit of privacy on a small lake with it's large lakeshore yard. The footage along the lakeshore is larger than most properties which adds to its spaciousness.
Every window has a unique view.
The fireplace and exterior of the main house is made from fieldstone and has stones from most of the 50 states. My in-laws were accomplished travelers and campers and they collected the stones on their trips.
There is also a woodstove in the kitchen for heat. That is all our parents used for heat during the bitter, cold winters.
Even on the hottest of summer days there is always a cool breeze under the gazebo. A great place to relax with a view of the lake.
Although I am not a fisherman, there are great "fish stories". People are very pleased with the fishing, and comment the bass fish are especially nice.
The fall foliage season is spectacular with Columbus Day weekend usually the peak weekend for color. The winters are magical and also can be quite cold! The summers are engaging with the water activity, wildlife, and times for making memories with family and friends. Did I leave out spring? It is special. After long winters and the anticipation of summer, spring makes us hold our breath as it unfolds. Every time of year is special in Shehawken.
