The cabin was very clean and comfortable. There was an amazing addition of fresh eggs, local orange juice, fruit, chips, some cereal options available for us. Don't forget about the AMAZING muffins that we enjoyed with every bite. Doug was great! Very easy to get ahold of and was really good at communicating and checking in upon our arrival and departure, making sure we had everything we needed and was more than willing to answer any questions we had. The peacefulness of this place is so nice. It was great being able to enjoy the quiet of nature and watch and listen to all of the wildlife around us. I can't wait to get back for another weekend!!

Bird songs

The cabin was almost more than expected! All rooms are very large and so inviting! Even though the weather was extremely hot we were able to enjoy a beautiful walk to the tree farm park a short drive down the road. Breakfast was on the front porch and we were entertained by the bird songs, deer and turkeys. The secluded quietness of the 300 acres was refreshing!

Cabin on a hill

This is a great place to stay. My wife and I came here for our 38th anniversary and couldn't be more pleased. We love nature and there were deer, squirrels, birds of all kinds and a group of turkeys right in the yard. Would definitely stay here again.

Cabin in the woods

This cabin was exactly as advertised. Very spacious and so clean. There were eggs, muffins, OJ and milk in the kitchen, which was fully stocked with everything you might need to cook during your stay. The stairs to the bedrooms were a little steep and narrow for an older couple but otherwise perfect for our stay!

Great secluded spot

Lovely rural area surrounded by mother nature. Plenty of games and hiking to keep busy. Hosts had scones, eggs, juice and milk for cereals already there, in addition to some snacks. The cabin was great, a bit warm upstairs for sleeping when it was over 90, but I just slept on the ample couch with no issues. If we head back that way we will definitely be back.

Cabin was immaculate, modern, large, eclectic furniture (leather sofas to antique accent pieces), wonderfully stocked (quality & fully modern kitchen, wine fridge, smart flat screen, indoor fireplace, outdoor fire pit, great mattresses, 2 full baths, outdoor porches and seating and expansive lot. Host stocked cabin with “Welcome” necessities (fruit, milk, eggs, muffins, butter, cereal, snacks, etc.) which was just lovely.

Nice place, need more kitchen supplies

Nice cabin on very quiet property. Kitchen supplies were at a minimum. Property owner did deliver pans in a timely manner when contacted. We’ve stayed in many cabins. For the money we paid. Kitchen should be stocked with utensils, keurig, etc when someone is away from home in a secluded area. Oven needs cleaned. Bathrooms very clean. Interior of cabin very nice with a fireplace. Would stay again if kitchen supplies were stocked .

Beautiful Cabin Retreat

This weekend at the cabin far exceeded our expectations. Secluded and surrounded by nature's beauty - you could almost feel the history of the land. It is very difficult to find such a lovely, well-maintained, and beautifully decorated cabin, especially with a wood-burning fireplace. The hosts went above and beyond to provide food and snacks - which were not only a pleasant surprise they were thoughtfully prepared and excellent choices. The hosts made certain we were comfortable and had no questions. It was a pleasure to have that personalized service. Check-in and check-out were a dream. The cabin was immaculately clean and no detail was overlooked to attend to our comfort and enjoyment. Our stay here was without a doubt, in a word, exceptional.

Absolutely glorious

The property was everything I'd hoped for and more. As we were driving up the driveway, we just said wow! They said it was secluded and it certainly was. I believe I saw two cars go by for the two days that we stayed there. The hosts were so generous. They left us farm fresh eggs, local milk and butter, fruits, cereals, coffee, muffins and more. They called us at the house when we arrived. They said if we need anything at all just contact them. It was too bad we couldn't see the total eclipse from there, I'm sure we wouldn't have left the place Highly recommend the place if you're looking for seclusion.

A quiet retreat

A rustic lodge with all modern conveniences which lent itself well to our girlfriends getaway weekend. We were thrilled to find some yummy breakfast foods awaiting us in the fridge on arrival. Finding the place is potentially a bit difficult if you aren't used to the area or at least to country roads, and the driveway is very, very steep, so come in a reliable 4-wheel drive! It's a good 15-20 minute drive to the local attractions (wineries, antique shops, restaurants), which is perfectly do-able but depending on your needs you may want to make sure you don't mind a little backwoods driving. However, if you just want to truly get away from it all, to get out of the city and enjoy peace and quiet, it would be hard to find something better. It was perfectly clean, charming, spacious, comfortable, and welcoming.

About the host

Hosted by Doug McGlumphy and Jennifer Greer

Host profile image
Doug McGlumphy and Jennifer Greer have been married for 30 years and enjoy working and developing our family farm. Doug works as an artist and educator while Jennifer works as an academic advisor. Both enjoy raising their two sons and passing on the property's history to the next generation.

Why they chose this property

Our cabin is located on 300 acres of rolling farmland in the Stucky Valley, of Tuscarawas County, Ohio. Originally settled in the 1830's by the Moomaw family, the farm was purchased in 1903 by Doug's great-grandparents, German farmers, Jacob and Emma Hisrich. It has remained in our family for over 110 years.

The farm subsequently passed down to Doug's grandparents, Laura and Vernon Hisrich who lived, raised a family and farmed the property for many decades. After their deaths the main house, outbuildings and land remained underutilized for many years and fell into decline until we purchased them, along with Doug's parents, Ed and Pat (Hisrich) McGlumphy in 1997.

In addition to the built environment, the farm consists of approximately 50% tillable land and 50% woods. In an effort to preserve the property as farmland, a local farmer uses the fields to plant crops for his dairy farm. The remainder acts as a bird sanctuary, as well as habitat for local wildlife.

We enjoy our farm and its family history and invite you to come and enjoy its peacefulness and tranquility with us. It is a labor of love and continues to be an ever-evolving endeavor. There is always something new to look at with each subsequent visit as we always have a new project in the works.

What makes this property unique

The property also includes an 1870s farmhouse (VRBO 2131667) and a 1825 historic log house (VRBO 489786) available for rental through VRBO. If rented together all houses offer a great opportunity for extended family or friends to vacation with each other while maintaining social distancing but enjoying the great outdoors.

The cabin and rural setting offers a truly unique experience for couples, families or friends to get away and relax. We even have a baseball field, hiking trails and an art gallery nearby. Come and enjoy!
