South Side Slopes is a neighborhood in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania`s South Side area. The neighborhood comprises the hills from the South Side Flats neighborhood along the Monongahela River from the Liberty Bridge (west) to beyond Josephine Street (east).
In many parts of the South Side Slopes, homes offer panoramic views of the city skyline that span the distance from beyond McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, to Homestead, Pennsylvania. Many homes are perched well above the city skyline. This neighborhood provides access to the South Side Flats by various means, including the many public staircases.
Every autumn the South Side Slopes Neighborhood Association (SSSNA) hosts its annual `StepTrek`, where participants travel over the various public step streets. Pittsburgh, like many cities in the United States built on hillsides, classifies public staircases as streets. The hills being steep, staircases allowed access to the different parts of the slopes neighborhood. The SSSNA hopes to maintain the staircases as a legacy of its history as a mining town.
The Mission Street steps between Oakley Street and Barry Street in addition to the top of Yard Way off Pius St. offer views of the South Side Flats neighborhood and downtown Pittsburgh. These public staircases are sometimes called paper streets, being pedestrian streets shown on City maps but not accessible by vehicles.
South Side Park is a City Park with hiking trails, a small orchard patch and views of the City of Pittsburgh skyline. It is home to many species of birds, small animals and deer. It contains a small wetlands area, complete with cattails and many species of wildlife. Black locust trees form a mature canopy over the park. It also includes a community garden at the former Bandi Schaum baseball field on the lower plateau off Mission Street across from the Mission Street water pumping station.
A cor-ten sculpture representing the neighborhood`s topography and buildings is on display in the garden of Paul of the Cross Monastery.
There is a rental property above that may or may not have guests while you are there. Also the roads are very steep! This property is on a mountain. Smoking will incur at $300 fine to the guest

Nicely remodeled, very clean property. We were quite comfortable during our stay. Our hike up and down the the 400+ steps was a highlight. Loved the bath towels! Would have enjoyed seating on the front porch!

The seating for front porch is right inside the door - I am sorry if you didn't see it - I would have been happy to let you know :) It is a cool porch to sit on :)
I can't say enough about this beautiful property. The owners were also fabulous. I will be coming to pittsburgh a lot because of my child being in the hospital and I will always check first to see if this property is available
House was amazing, the drive up to get there not so much. Parking was also not the best. Would be nice to mention this when renting it. Inside was great. Clean, cute, and worked perfect for us.

The listing does say street parking... I am not sure how else I can be more clear about that. I am sorry if there was a misunderstanding and I hate that the miscommunication or understanding of the term street parking took a whole star off the review :(
With an all modern kitchen, bathroom, appliances, etc, accented by some original features such as high ceilings, extra tall original wooden pocket doors, and original wooden shutters inside the windows, provided ease and comfort while giving us some extra enjoyment from the unique look and character of this property. We really loved this property, and hope to stay here again.
Its location on the steep hills of Pittsburgh also provides a driving experience that is fun/unique/maybe sometimes a little scary but still worth doing!
The duplex is decorated beautifully. The kitchen is large! We loved the charm of the home. Very tall ceilings, pocket doors. Deep windows with wooden shutters are Beautiful and good for sleeping in! Can’t really complain about anything. The property is steep on the slopes but that made it fun! Close to everything, we hit up alot of the local breweries as hubby is a craft beer aficionado. Great restaurants too! We will stay again.
The property is located just a bit south of most places in Pittsburgh, and getting around was very easy. The last couple streets leading up to it are quite steep - was interesting to learn the Pittsburgh terrain! Everything was clean and well-appointed. Loved the kitchen. The steps from the kitchen down into the living area were fun.
A couple suggestions for the host for the future - adding a shelf/cabinet of some sort next to the bathroom vanity would be very helpful, as would a small table next to the table in the living room area.
Wonderful view from the windows, and really cool antique wood window shutters and pocket doors.
Quick warning, if you have a large SUV/truck, you should be prepared to navigate some narrow, twisty, and steep streets. If you're not confident, this might be an anxiety inducer :) But the on-street parking was sufficient.
The upstairs guests were quiet, no issues, though you can hear footsteps.
Plenty of amenities in the rental, though no corkscrew.
I would have liked a curtain on the entry door to the unit, because you have to walk through the foyer to get from the shower to the bedroom.
All of these are truly nitpicks to a really nice stay.
We had a great stay here! I’m originally from Pittsburgh and to get the view of the city was great!
Owners were great to work with! View is great! Very clean. They pretty much have everything you need in stock for a weekend stay! Very quiet and slept great! Super close to The Southside! Uber easy! A curtain on the kitchen window or a blind would be a great addition! Honestly, that’s the only thing! We would stay there again for sure!
If you're looking for peace and quite. Do not choose this location .
The people who lives in the other unit above the one I rented were very loud from the time they wake up until they fall asleep. The sound of a large dog running around the apartment all day. People running in and our of the the other unit all day for the three days I stayed there. If real rest is what you're looking for RUN when you come across this property. Just being honest.

No one lives there. It’s a rental as well. It says that in the listing. There are no dogs in that unit. I have cameras outside - I would know. I was not made aware of any issue during this stay. I am very responsive and do my very best to take care of any guest issues. You did not give me that opportunity.
About the host

Hey! My name is Sarah, and I would love to host you at one of our amazing properties! I am a resident of the neighborhood and just a few short blocks away with my Labradoodle wolfhound Copper! We love this city and are always happy to share it with new people! On the weekends you will usually find us around the Mount Washington area, either walking one of the many hiking trails in the Mount or just up Grandview Avenue (best view of the Burgh). My family is from Pittsburgh, but I have always loved to travel. I moved to Nashville and toured the country singing with my band. It was amazing, but all good things come to an end so I got my business degree. I lived in Australia for a while too! This world has so many amazing places to go - I still have a very VERY long list. Even with all of that, my heart is still here in Pittsburgh, so this where I started my business and now call home. Thanks for taking some more time to check the place and my profile! Please reach out with any questions!
