About this property

Shenandoah Valley Farm House near BR pkway & Skyline , UVA, Staunton, wineries

We are a 150 acre working farm with cattle and crops, fronting the South River, at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains. You can see the house from overlooks on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The view from the house will cure high blood pressure in a minute. We are an ideal base for visiting Charlottesville , Skyline Drive, 151 trail wineries, BR Pkwy. and Staunton.

Because it is an old farm house with additions (total of around 3100 sq ft} the floor plan is unique. Downstairs includes all the public rooms plus a full bath. Upstairs includes three bedrooms, all queens, and a bunk room with 2 singles and a trundle which sleeps 3, and two full baths. One of the baths is off a central hall, the other is off one of one of the bedrooms. The upstairs rooms are on three levels, often requiring a step or two between rooms and the hall. If you are a person easily disoriented when you wake up at night, you may want to stay in the room with the ensuite bath with no steps. Also, it has a metal roof, so you will hear rain and wind storms if one arises.

Please note, the base rate is for up to four people. If you have more than four people it is $10 per person per night extra.

The address is 118 Hall School Rd, Waynesboro, VA 22980, should you wish to map it.

While only a few miles from the interstate, we are in a lovely rural setting. With 3/4 mile frontage on the South River, we have lovely paths for hiking and gentle water for canoeing (no rapids) and fishing, bass and trout. During the summer river water level can be pretty low and not great to canoe. There are other rivers in the area better suited for canoeing and tubing. This area is particularly nice for biking, with many rural roads, and excellent mountain biking trails nearby in the national forest. With 24 wineries within 25 miles, you can enjoy a grand tour or just visit a couple only 10 minutes away. Lake Sherando is 15 minutes away for swimming.

In the Fall the colors of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah Valley are amazing. There is no extra charge for them.

You'll have a full modern kitchen, or many restaurants nearby for dining. The den features a card table and a large HD TV with DVD. We have an outside basketball court, and lots of area for soccer.

Behind the house there is a patio with a wonderful view of the property and the Blue Ridge Mountains. The patio includes a firepit and a hottub.

In our many five star reviews, you will read about people enjoying the games in our large 100 year old barn. Unfortunately the barn burned to the ground January 4, 2023 so we don’t have quite as many activities available on the farm.

If you are so inclined, you can visit our chickens and two donkeys, Fergie and Olive. You can win their hearts with an apple or carrot, or by brushing their coats.

We are less than 30 minutes from Charlottesville (Monticello and University of Virginia), Wintergreen(golf and skiing) and Staunton(Frontier museum and Shakespeare Theater). 45 minutes from Harrisonburg, Masanutten with it's waterpark and skiing, Lexington and the Safari zoo. About 2 hours from Richmond, Williamsburg, Jamestown and 3 hours from Washington DC and Virginia Beach.

Dulles airport is 2.5 hours and Richmond airport is about 90 minutes. 30 minutes from Charlottesville airport.

Come settle in on our farm, take in all the fun activities in the area, and then relax with the comforts and room of home.

Our minimum stay is 2 nights.

Simply Perfect!

The home was lovely and felt comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked making it easy to prepare meals but there are also a surprising large variety of restaurants nearby. The views were incredible and we enjoyed walking on the property and stargazing from the hot tub!Visiting the donkeys was a daily treat and they loved carrots and greeted us when we walked up!If you are considering a vacation rental here, book now- you won’t be disappointed!

Quirky, Charming, Delightul!

We've stayed at this farmhouse twice within the past few years and definitely plan to return! Two families — mine, with two teenage girls, and my sister-in-law's, with three teenagers — find this house to be a great place for everyone to spread out (retreat to a quiet corner) OR to gather for family games/fun/dining. This location is convenient to Wintergreen skiing (for the teens and the dads), to downtown Waynesboro (for antiquing and dining), and to surrounding charming towns (for exploring). Brad in incredibly receptive and hospitable and the house is well-stocked with anything you might need.

Cozy and inviting

Most reviews I’ve seen are from summer excursions and I wanted to vouch for the coziness of a late fall/early winter experience for our families! The property might be an old farmhouse but the house has been updated with amazing heat surprisingly non-squeaky floors. The toddler was able to sleep while the older kids remained at their normal volume. Nearby grocery and restaurants made planning for the whole family a breeze and the hosts have left extensive information about the area. The very welcoming and communicative hosts made this one of the best stays we’ve ever had. Would stay again, without question.

This was my favorite VRBO ( and there have been a lot). Great place to stay, very helpful host, the views are fantastic, there are farm animals, centrally located to all the historic sites, separate bedrooms, really close to Shenandoah NP, . . it goes on and on. we all loved this place.

Beautiful

Our family gathered for a long weekend. The house is on a quiet road, interesting, well decorated, and has everything guests need, as well as many extras. The host was exceptionally helpful and available. There were games available, fire pit supplies, and a well-equipped kitchen. The view of the valley and the Blue Ridge was beautiful. Even our mid-teen enjoyed visiting the cattle , chickens, and donkeys and a we all enjoyed a beautiful walk around the farm. The conveniences of town are not far away. This was a great place for us to stay and relax and sightsee.

Lovely Visit

Brad and his wife Deanna were lovely hosts and their house provided the perfect getaway for the weekend. Would highly recommend staying here! Close to lots of amenities, good food, and recreational activities (we went skiing at nearby Wintergreen Resort), while still being far enough out that you get to enjoy the country!

A Gem in the Shenandoah Valley

We selected this home for a family gathering and commuted to Charlottesville for my daughter's college graduation. We had a wonderful time at the farmhouse. It is a tastefully-appointed home located on a working farm, surrounded by the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and 100 acres of farmland. The home has a great kitchen with everything you could need to prepare your meals. The beds (and pillows) were comfortable. Brad was an excellent host during our stay. I highly recommend this property.

Good house, convenient location

Me and my groomsmen stay in this farm house this past weekend and it was better then advertised. Brad greeted us as we got to the house and showed us the property and it is much bigger then the pictures suggest. All in all we really enjoyed our stay.

Great Stay

My wife and I had a wonderful stay complete with beautiful grounds, cows in the pasture and excellent hospitality. The house is filled with interesting furniture and accompaniments. The walk through the farm fields to the river was peaceful and well worth the time and effort. The house is very close to great hikes along the Blue Ridge and in Shenandoah National Park. Perfect getaway!

This was the perfect getaway from our busy days. We loved the home—perfect for our large family of five kids. They all—from age 1 to 19–had a great time! We loved the hot tub, tire swing, games in the barn, and fire pit, and each day we enjoyed the scenery and farm animals. Brad was so helpful and made it a perfect stay! Fantastic Stay!

My boyfriend and I came to waynesboro for a short weekend get away to go explore the various wineries. This house was so wonderful! It had everything we needed and the hot tub was such a nice touch! We went in it each evening. The mornings drinking coffee looking at the cows and the Mountain View’s and the peaceful sounds were an amazing way to wake up. We hope to come back to this spot! Awsome Place

The farmhouse is old yes, but many improvements have been made and everything is in perfect condition. So much to see on the farm, cows, chickens, barns, and the view is wonderful. Very private and peaceful. The owners live around the bend and checked on us a few times. Made fires in the firepit and fed the 2 donkeys apples. We loved staying and hated to leave.

Host profile image
Brad, Deana, Dalton, Liam and a host of animals live on the farm. Deana was born and raised in the area. Brad moved here 25 years ago to work, fell in love with the area and Deana. Neither is leaving.

We bought the farm in 2004, and moved into the farm house a few years later. In 2009 we built a new home on the farm, and thus the farm house became available for VRBO.

Why they chose this property

Lots of reasons, including, the view, the view, the view........

What makes this property unique

We live in a rural peaceful area, but the necessities (and luxuries ) of modern life are just 10 minutes away.
