About the host
Hosted by Jami Dimitrios
This home is owned and operated by St. Bernard Parish natives Paul & Jami Dimitrios. We have four wonderful children and have fostered six amazing children. This was our family home until Hurricane Katrina. Paul, an architect, spent five years renovating and restoring this diamond in the rough, and we re-renovated it after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, a process that took over two years. With all that behind us, we're thrilled to share our beloved home with visiting guests.
Why they chose this property
We selected this property for its prime location in historic Old Arabi, which offers a unique and charming atmosphere. The rich history and comforting ambiance of this 150-year-old home resonated with us, and we take great pleasure in sharing its warmth with travelers visiting New Orleans. Every guest who walks through our doors brings a sense of gratitude and blessing, and we are delighted to provide them with an unforgettable experience. Come discover the magic of New Orleans while staying in our beloved home - we're confident you'll fall in love with it just as we have!
What makes this property unique
Our residence, known as the "Rimkus House" or the "Alligator House," boasts a storied heritage tracing back to the late 19th century. Remarkably, the front dormers of the house have a connection to the McParty Plantation, where General Andrew Jackson stayed during the Battle of New Orleans. Following the destruction of the plantation home, these dormers were salvaged and incorporated into our property.
Originally erected in the 1890s, the house was later relocated to its present corner lot in the early 1900s. Noteworthy is the home's former inhabitants, including a real 6-foot alligator and a peacock, both cherished pets of bygone eras. Guests are invited to delve into this intriguing history, with documentation and photographs of these remarkable animals available for exploration within the premises.
