Lonesome Pond Lodge - Ideal Lakeside Retreat
Perfectly situated on Kiwassa Lake, Lonesome Pond Lodge is a newly renovated lakeside cottage, just minutes away from the best of the Adirondacks. This 4 bedroom / 2 bathroom, two-story lakeside cottage is seamlessly connected to the outdoors with a large balcony on the second floor, a screened-in porch off the first floor family room, a dock and boathouse, and a firepit. Enjoy our canoe, kayak, paddleboard, and fishing gear. Currently renovating Spring 2021, this is our first season as owners.
Our two-story house sits at the perfect spot on Kiwassa Lake. Downstairs is a family room, three bedrooms (two twins; two twins; and a queen), a full bathroom with a bathtub, and a screened-in porch with a sitting area and a daybed with two twin mattresses if you'd like to try sleeping on the porch.
On the second floor is a light-filled south facing living room and dining room opening up to a large deck. Also on this level is the kitchen and the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom (with a shower, not a bathtub).
Lakeside, you'll find Adirondack chairs surrounding a large firepit, a dock and boathouse, stocked with fishing gear, life vests, a kayak, canoe, and paddleboard. Bring your own boat, or rent one in town. In addition to the private boat house, there's a (shared) boat launch nearby.
The entry into the lake is a sandy shore with crystal clear waters and sandy bottom (no algae, weeds, lillies, rocks etc).

Great location, peaceful and relaxing trip with the family. Lake was frozen enough to skate on after shoveling a rink and ice fishing was great. Close to town and easy drive to surrounding towns including Lake Placid and Tupper Lake. House was clean and well equipped with everything we needed.
We had an excellent stay on Lonesome road. The property is conveniently located to all the hiking we had planned, and loved the lake access the rest of the time!
The view from the top floor was just stunning and beautiful each day. The bedrooms were all nice size and bathrooms brand new. We loved the fact we coukd rent a pontoon from local boat company explore all the lakes. Very close to town but very peaceful. Loved it
We loved our stay here. There was plenty of room and a variety of things for all of us to do. Gorgeous views and very well stocked with everything we could have needed. The kids were asking to come back for a longer stay before we even left.
We really enjoyed the beautiful views of the lake and the mountains! The house was clean and comfortable. It had everything we needed for our stay. It was very cold, so we especially enjoyed the warm fireplace! Thanks Leo!!
The house was fantastic - accommodations were comfortable and spacious. The view of the lake is beautiful. We were able to watch the Eclipse of 2024 in a beautiful setting. We would love to return for a trip when the weather is warmer to take advantage of the kayak, stand up paddle boards etc.
This property is everything you want for a family vacation! The house is very clean and comfortable. The view of the lake from the screened in porch and the second floor balcony is fantastic! My kids and grandkids took advantage of the canoe, kayak and paddle board. The indoor air hockey game came in handy on the rainy day. The fire pit was a great place for the family to gather. We plan on staying there again.
Just delightful. Extended family gathering ages 25-80. The beautiful setting and view from the upper deck kept the less mobile happy at the house while others hiked, paddled, and cycled. Thoughtfully equipped and supplied house. Lovely back yard with a fire pit. Screened-in back porch on lower level is the perfect place to escape with a book while others gather in the main space upstairs. (Nice view from downstairs too.) We were 8 people for half the week and did not feel crowded. (Shared the bathroom off the upstairs master bath. ) Would definitely return.
Property is gorgeous. Outdoor setup and lake are gorgeous. Boathouse had everything. Bedrooms were not as clean as expected. Sheets didn’t seem to have been washed and smelled like people. The bedrooms were dusty and there were some dead insects on the floor when we arrived, but the bathrooms were very clean so the cleanliness was not consistent throughout. There was animal hair in some of the blankets which some people might be okay with but as someone with allergies, I would prefer that there not be. The outdoor/daybed furniture on the screened in porch was dirty so we didn’t sit on it. Ultimately, if it were cleaner, it would’ve been perfect.

Hi Ariana, I can assure you the sheets were definitely clean. The house was empty for a week before your stay, which is very unusual for us, so that might have contributed to the dust you saw. I'm sorry about that, and will make sure that the housekeepers pay an extra visit to the house before before arrival for cases like yours where there has been a gap in occupancy. Best, Leo
We are a family group of 5 ( 1 dog) who get together every year in late May just to be together. We cook and walk and play games and laugh and this was the place to do all of that. The 4 bedrooms were comfortable and attractive. The shared bath on the first floor was adequate, and the en suite bath in the primary bedroom was pretty amazing; the shower is gorgeous! There is a nice game room and a porch on the ground level looking out on the lake, but we spent most of our time on the upper level where the well-equipped kitchen and living/dining area was. The views of the lake from both floors were spectacular. The lake access is perfect. It was too cold in late May to even consider swimming, but there were kayakers and boaters out when the weather was good. The lake looked clean, with a sandy bottom. The rooms all had individual controls for the electric baseboard heat, which suited us fine. Everyone got what she wanted. Both Lake Placid and Saranac Lake are a reasonable drive, and we spent time in both towns, just doing touristy things. We ate one night at the River Trail Beerworks in Saranac Lake. It's much more than a brewery, and the food is excellent. This was a great experience. Leo (the host) is very responsive to email queries, and, while we did our best to leave the premises neat and tidy, we were not required to clean. That's big!

Fourth of July weekend
This was a nice location (close to lake placid town) with a few minor problems. There was construction going on next door which was not disclosed prior to renting the property. The construction was unfortunately very disruptive to our stay. The lake is great and would have been very peaceful but there was loud banging and hammers next door. I would have liked to be given a break in some ways financially due to the undisclosed construction. I informed the owner and he said “that sucks.” So overall- I’d give this a 3.5/5 stars. There were also rusty nails sticking out of the benches outside. We have two little children and this was definitely unsafe. The location was great and lake was beautiful but a little overpriced for what we were dealing with. In my opinion disruptive construction (building a huge house next door) should be disclosed and if not you should be compensated accordingly for the inconvenience (even if it’s a small kickback).

I'm deeply sorry that Lauren's stay was impacted by our neighbors construction. Obviously, we have no control over this, and the construction is now completed. I had no opportunity to notify Lauren because there was no construction at the time of her booking, and then it would start or stop so was unpredictable. I would have gladly compensated the guest if she had asked. She never reported to me any "rusty nails" during her stay, and if she had a caretaker would have been over within 24 hrs to remove it. As for her comments about value, our pricing is in line with other properties in the area. It is a lot of money! But it's a very special place and we have high costs since we're within a protected conservation area. Is like when you go skiing, it's a premium price because it's a special and rare location.
We're deeply sorry though and I did apologize profusely to Lauren (the "that sucks" comment is taken entirely out of context). We strive for 5 star experiences for all our guests and have 70 of 71 reviews as 5 star on the other booking platform (starts with "air") to prove it.
Great location - fantastic views - comfortable house
We stayed for a week over Thanksgiving and enjoyed it very much. The house is very comfortable. The neighborhood is not isolated but very quiet. Short trip into Saranac Lake. The house had everything needed to cook simple meals to Thanksgiving dinner.
The home was spotless and was just as it was shown and described. The only regret is that it rained most of the time we were there and we could not use the fire pit. We did take in the wonderful view from the upstairs. There is so much to see and do, then, coming home to a private, quiet sanctuary was the best! Thanks so much to Leo, who was interested and responsive from beginning to end!
Wonderful lake front rental in the Sara/Placid area. Kiwassa Lake is perfect for kayaking, swimming, paddle boarding or boating. Quiet neighborhood close to town. So many hiking options close by or take a short drive over to Lake Placid. Wish we could have stayed all summer!
Lonesome Pond Lodge…Best little gem on Kiwassa Lake
We can’t say enough good things about LPL.. Our chosen family of four best friends and our 3 sons combined made for a great relaxing, adventurous, fun filled time… our boys were on the paddle boards and kayaks all day, every day. Fishing, swimming and having a campfire almost every night.. the house and view were spectacular. What was advertised did not disappoint. Spacious enough for us to have time alone and come together when we wanted to. We were able to explore Saranac Lake and Whiteface Mountain in a lake Placid was a must see! All kinds of hiking options are close by if you want to take advantage..which we did. Would totally recommend LPL!
After visiting with family in central New York, we wanted to take our daughter and son-in-law to the Adirondacks for some relaxation and to experience the area where her dad had many fond childhood memories. Paddling on the lake (we loved using the canoe, kayaks, and paddleboard during our stay!) and listening to the loons was perfect. The house itself is beautifully decorated and nicely appointed.
The property is just as it’s described. It’s tucked away on a beautiful, peaceful lake with a great view of the mountains. The village of Saranac Lake is a quick 5 minute drive where you can park the car and walk to numerous shops and restaurants - we especially liked Bitters and Bones. Lake Placid is about a 20 minute drive also with lots of fun shops and restaurants and, of course, lots of Olympic venues to explore. After exploring each afternoon, it was nice to come back to the house and enjoy the view. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the air hockey table - there was a daily tournament. The kitchen was stocked with all the essentials and an Aldi is close by if you want to pick up a few things for a meal “at home”. We’d love to come back in warmer weather so we could use all the water “toys” and enjoy some s’mores around the fire pit.
We loved our stay at this house. There were gorgeous views of the mountain from the living room and the afternoon sun felt so good shining through the windows. We enjoyed cross country skiing and ice fishing right from the house. Looking forward to coming back again some day.
The house and grounds were just as we hoped. The lake is quite peaceful in September, and we really enjoyed the dark skies and the loon calls. The house was clean, comfortable, and well stocked. We are already talking about planning our next visit!
Great location on Kiwassa Lake. Best view of the high peaks. Quite yet close to town. Love it..
