About this property

WOODS UPON A TIME: Lavish Hilltop Cabin w/Fishing Pond

Your getaway story awaits at Woods Upon a Time, a beautiful 5-Star cabin, lovingly outfitted and redesigned specifically for a cozy couples getaway, girls/guys trip or small family vacation from urban life.

This newly remodeled, modern-rustic 2/2 1100 sf cabin features a spacious fully-stocked kitchen, awesome dining baguette, beautiful stacked stone, wood-burning fireplace, custom 8-foot barn door separating the sleeping quarters, tongue-and-groove ceilings, new flooring, plus large front porch and cozy fire pit with sloping hillside landscaping. Enjoy the fire pit roasting marshmallows and listening to nature at night as you recap your day adventure. Cook to your heart’s content in the brand new, fully equipped and fully stocked kitchen, or bring out the chow for the grill on the back deck.

The cabin sits on more than 1 acre, with 31 privately owned woodsy acres in the back, and our 2nd property with 4 acres sits in the front, including a 1 acre pond. We ❤ the location, as we are NOT in one of those neighborhoods where you walk out and all you see are other cabins/homes.

So conveniently located! In 15 minutes you'll be in downtown Murphy, NC and in 20 minutes, downtown Blairsville, GA. Blue Ridge is only 25 minutes away. We're in immediate proximity to tri-state area hiking, fishing, ziplines, whitewater rafting, boating, train rides, kayaking, canoeing, and Harrah's Cherokee Valley Casino Resort. (see below for more to dos)

---- THE PROPERTY
❤FRONT PORCH – Front porch and fire pit views of the pond, sloping flower-filled landscaped path. Relax and enjoy the deer who often come strolling down from the 31 private acres behind the cabin, as well as birds of all kinds, and playful wildlife.

❤FIRE PIT, GRILL & YARD GAMES – You will love the fire pit area! Four (4) Cedar Adirondack chairs, 2 footrests, table and bench were made by a Tennessee woodcarver. A yard of firewood is provided for use in the fireplace and fire pit. It is located behind the back deck. The back deck has a propane gas grill. We also have a horseshoe game and corn hole for the front yard.

❤ KITCHEN – The kitchen is large, with LOADS of counter space and cabinets. Black appliances and black granite accent the well-appointed area with refrigerator, NEW glass top stove/oven, NEW full size dishwasher, large coffee maker and Keurig coffee maker & set of K-cups, toaster oven, blender, dishes, drinkware, plus all kinds of utensils, dishware and bakeware to make you feel at home for special occasions or when you're just on vacation. Pretty much everything you’d find in a home kitchen.

❤ DINING – A spacious seating nook awaits with comfortable seating for 5, with big plush pillows for game playing, eating meals or computer work.

❤ LIVING ROOM – The living room features two comfortable sofas and two Ethan Allen chairs, a 50-inch smart TV with streaming channels. Our stacked stone fireplace with black granite hearth is wood burning and we do have a supply of wood on hand plus all the other necessities; however, we also have an AMAZING, realistic electric log for convenience if you'd prefer, super easy with remote. And yes, 3 levels of heat if you wish too.

❤ BEDROOMS – A gorgeous custom 8-foot barn door separates the sleeping area from the main living room. The main bedroom features a striking Cedar KING bed and dresser with an en-suite full bathroom. The 2nd bedroom has 2 extra-long twin beds and adjacent full bath. All ceilings are tongue and groove wood with an Ipswich Pine finish.

❤ AMENITIES – Full size washer and dryer, satellite Wi-Fi, blue tooth speaker, and 50-inch Roku-enabled streaming TV. Maps and guidebooks of the area are provided. Games, puzzles and books.

----- OUR STORY
We started vacationing in Murphy in 2007 after we won a bid for a family cabin rental during a live auction at our church. Our kids were little and we said, “why not?” We also said, “where is Murphy, North Carolina?” 😊

Well, during many subsequent summers, and numerous fall trips, we came back to that cabin and other cabins in the area, with not only our children, but also with extended family, friends, and alone as a couple. We basically fell in love with Murphy and made it our goal to eventually own a home here. During the shutdown of 2020 we bought Woods Upon A Time Cabin as a 2nd home and family getaway. But a major career later that year brought vacation time adjustments, so rather than have the cabin sit empty for most of the year, we decided to open up and share with other couples and families like yourselves to build your own memories.

A lot of labor and love has gone into Woods Upon a Time to make it warm and inviting and give you the coziest feelings of home...from the flooring and the tongue-and-groove ceilings that we cut and installed ourselves to the gorgeous stacked stone fireplace, to the 8-foot barn door separating the main living area from the bedrooms. In fact, we’ve done all of the remodeling, and have our hearts into making this the best it could possibly be for our family, and yours as well.

We really hope you enjoy it and love it as much as we do.

Pond full of fish!
We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful property! We spent more time around the pond than we did in the cabin and can confirm it has lots of fish! Love the mountain decor of the cabin! The front porch is awesome with the seating and swing! The owner was great to work with and responded quickly to questions! Thank you for sharing your cabin with us!

Appalachian X-mas Vacation
Our stay was PHENOMENAL! Our drive from the coast to the mountains was a great sight to see. The property was in a great location to shopping and eating. The Christmas decorations and mountain themed antler tissue holders were a cute touch! We appreciated the proximity to the pond and were able to capture some really nice family photos. ❤️ The area was very quiet and tranquil. We loved making family memories here.

OUR STORY
Originally from Michigan and Maryland, but raising a family in beautiful Tampa Bay, Florida, we appreciate the mountains and the fresh air very much, and started vacationing in Murphy in 2007 after we won a bid for a family cabin rental during a live auction at our church. Our kids were little and we said, “why not?” We also said, “where is Murphy, North Carolina?” LOL

Well, during many subsequent summers, and numerous fall trips, we came back to that cabin and other cabins in the area, with not only our children, but also with extended family, friends, and alone as a couple. We basically fell in love with Murphy and made it our goal to eventually own a home here. THERE IS SO MUCH TO DO!! During the shutdown of 2020 we bought the cabin as a 2nd home and family getaway. But a major career change for Dave later that year brought vacation time adjustments, so rather than have the cabin sit empty for most of the year, we decided to open up and share with other couples and families like yourselves to build your own memories. You'll feel right at home in this impeccably clean and well stocked cabin.

Why they chose this property

We have come to ❤ this Appalachian town. Not only is it the county seat of Cherokee County, Murphy is known for its lovely flower-lined downtown, with a nature Riverwalk and lots of cute shops, eateries, art gallery and more (even a high end car driving experience), but also for it's central location to day trip to tri-state area. Plus...two rivers run through the town, the Nottley River and the Hiawassee River, pretty cool.

In 2020 during the pandemic, we said, 'that's it!' we're buying a getaway cabin! So we traveled up from Tampa Bay several times and found our super-cute place. Its took more than 4 months and so much hard work to transform into the amazing cabin that you see today. We had our own family in mind as we decorated, every piece holds a story. We hope you love as much as we do.

What makes this property unique

From the flooring and the tongue-and-groove ceilings that Dave cut and installed himself to the gorgeous stacked stone fireplace that he placed with his own hands, to the 8-foot barn door separating the main living area from the bedrooms. A lot of labor and love has gone into this beautiful cabin to make it warm and inviting to give you the coziest feelings of home...in fact, Dave did all of the remodeling, has put his heart into making it the best it could possibly be for our family, and yours as well.
