About this property
Home in a Protected Cove on Lake Buchanan.
Located on a protected cove on beautiful Lake Buchanan, this lakefront home is the perfect place to relax, fish, swim, boat, or simply enjoy the view. The property includes a private boat dock with a boat lift, making it easy to spend your days on the water.
The upstairs deck offers sweeping views of the lake and the lights of Buchanan Dam after sunset. Downstairs, a covered patio with a gas grill provides the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee as the sun rises over the water. Mature oak, pecan, and peach trees provide plenty of shade throughout the property.
A Classic Texas Lake House
This home was originally built as a traditional weekend lake house rather than a full-time residence. Think of the classic fishing cabins and cottages of years past—with screen doors that make that familiar "lake house" sound when they close. We've preserved much of that original charm while providing the comforts guests expect today.
Please Read Before Booking - Unique Floor Plan
One of the things that makes this property unique is its floor plan. Please review the photos and this description carefully before booking.
The home has no interior staircase connecting the two levels. The upstairs and downstairs are connected only by an exterior staircase.
Upstairs you'll find:
Living room Kitchen and dining area King bedroom Bedroom with two twin beds Shared full bathroom Main deck overlooking the lake
Downstairs you'll find:
Recreation room Bedroom with one queen bed and twin bunk beds Private full bathroom Covered patio with gas grill
To move between floors, guests must go outside, use the exterior staircase, and enter through a separate exterior door.
This layout works exceptionally well for:
Two couples traveling together Families with teenagers or young adults Multi-generational groups wanting extra privacy Guests who appreciate having a separate downstairs suite
However, it may not be the best fit for families with several young children who would need to sleep downstairs while parents sleep upstairs. Because there is no interior access between floors, parents would need to go outside and use the exterior stairs to reach the downstairs bedroom during the night.
We simply encourage guests to consider how members of their group will be assigned to each bedroom before booking. Most of our guests love the unique privacy this design provides, but we want every guest to be confident the layout fits their family's needs before they arrive.
Sleeping Arrangements
Upstairs
Bedroom 1: King bed Bedroom 2: Two twin beds Shared full bathroom
Downstairs
Bedroom 3: Queen bed plus twin bunk beds Private full bathroom Separate recreation room Separate air conditioning system
The downstairs bedroom functions almost like a private guest suite, making it ideal for a second couple, grandparents, or older children who appreciate having their own space.
No pets allowed. No smoking anywhere on the property.

One of the best VRBO's I've stayed at. The hosts thought of everything and obviously really love their property. It was spotless, with tons of activities for the family and little extras that make vacations easier. Thank you for the wonderful stay!
This is a great place, great accommodations, everything was covered in regards to having everything you would need. Definitely would stay here again.

Wow! Thank you Michele for the 5 Star Review! We are glad that you and your family enjoyed fishing off our beautiful boat dock. Because of your family’s constant use of the boat dock we are looking at improvements to the fish cleaning station. We are also making improvements to the night lighting on the dock to make it more conducive to fishing in the evening. We hope you will think about the Lake Buchanan Guest House the next time your family look to book a weekend away. We would love to see you back here again. Thanks again!
Excellent , would book again if available. Thank y’all!

Take care.
We loved our stay. The house was cute and clean, our teens loved the kayaks and ping pong table.
The lake view was great and we even had a fire. I was so peaceful and quiet. We will definitely be back.

We hope you will consider staying with us again the next time you want to get away to the Lake. Take care and thanks again.
Thank you for the 5 Star Review Jeff. We strive to clean the lake house the same way that we would like to find a rental if we were renting the property. Hope you had an enjoyable stay and we look forward to seeing you back the next time you are in the market for a lake house rental. Thanks again.

Thank you Kevin for the 5 Star Review. We are glad your family had a wonderful time and that you recognized our efforts when it comes to maintenance and cleaning. In the off-season we plan to add new flooring & toys in the rec-room; new garden lights out on the waterfront & over the Adirondack chairs; and a fire pit near the waterfront for the cool nights when your group just wants to sit around and talk until all hours of the night. We are constantly looking for new ways to improve our guest experience. We hope that you and your family will come back to the Lake Buchanan Guest House the next time you want to get away to the Lake. Take care, and thanks gain.
Great place for us to enjoy the lake. This was our first time to Lake B. We had a great time on the lake with our friends on the water. The house was super cute and had everything we needed. The views from the property are great. The house sits on a cove which was nice. The kids were able to jump off the deck and kayak around with out fear of crazy waves and speeding boats. We hated to leave.

Thank you Kay Lynn for the glowing review. We agree that the location on a protected cove just off the widest part of the lake makes for worry free swimming, kayaking and boating. And the views of the dam and open water from the 2nd floor deck make for relaxing happy hours. Thank you for taking such good care of the Lakehouse. We hope that you and your family will think of the Lake Buchanan Guesthouse the next time you are thinking of coming to the Lake. Take care and thanks again.
Shady lake side location, great views of lake, quiet neighborhood, sandy beach for kayak/canoe launch. Neighborhood private boat launch, boat dock was made available to us, hosts are very responsive & attentive. TJM had thought of everything you & your family might need for a great time in the water or in the rec area with pingpong table, other games. The house was great with an upstairs & downstairs for a little privacy or separation if desired. Great place for our family time, we will be back.

Terry; thank you so much for the positive review. We were glad to see that your beautiful boat weathered the storm this week safely tucked away in our covered boat dock with lift. We were also glad to hear that you & your family made good use of the ping pong table and other toys in the downstairs rec room. The rec room sure comes in handy on a stormy day at the lake. Thanks again for the 5 Star Review. We look forward to seeing you and your family back at the Lake Buchanan guest house. Take care.
We rented this house for 3 nights as we were making our way through the Hill Country and had a great time. It’s just far enough to feel “away from it all” but still just 15 min from a grocery store and 20-25 min to Marble Falls with good dining options.
The house is new and nicely furnished with everything you could need. The garage game room is air conditioned and a hit with my teenagers. Kayaks are available for use and my kids enjoyed those as well.
We didn’t bring a boat but this is a great house to bring your own boat with a ramp located on the street and your own dock.
Owners were very helpful. Thank you for a great stay!

Thank you Sheila for the wonderful 5 Star review! We continually give a lot of our attention to providing fun things for our guests to do including ping-pong and kayaks. The air conditioned rec room is a nice escape during the heat of the day and when we get an afternoon rain shower. We agree with you that the location is perfect for feeling like you are away from it all, but still close enough to sight seeing options, shops and restaurants for when you feel like venturing out. Thanks again. We hope to see you again next season.
This property is the perfect relaxing getaway. We enjoyed our stay so much, and would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Our party was 2 sets of adults and 2 little kids, and the 3 bedrooms were perfect. The top floor has 2 bedrooms that are perfect for a family (master bedroom and 2 twins) and the downstairs room is really flexible (double and a set of bunk beds).
Here is what I loved about this house:
-Beautiful view off a perfect porch! The porch is north facing and huge. There is lots of comfy seating and it's always in deep shade, so you get a great breeze and feel cool even on hot days. The view out onto the water is just the best. I had coffee there every morning and never wanted to leave. The porch is surrounded by gorgeous old trees too. The sound of cicadas and the lake were pure paradise.
-The house is stocked like a home and everything is name-brand high quality. There are tons of fluffy towels (enough for 6 of us to bathe every day and not do laundry for a week), and the kitchen is fully stocked with things like Ziplock bags, fresh sponges (a must for us, since our daughter has a peanut allergy and we can't use used dish washing items), soap, dishwasher pods, salt, pepper, sugar, creamer, oil, coffee, and enough plates/cutlery to host a party of 15 without running low on anything. There are even serving utensils for family style meals. I think the owners might have even stocked a brand new baby bottle washing brush just for us, since we were bringing a baby.
-The neighborhood is quiet and beautiful.
-The homeowners are helpful and friendly, and sent a few nice little emails with fun tips for what to do in the area.
-The house is quiet at night and it's easy to sleep.
-The AC is frigid, if that's your thing.
-The garage is full of fun toys. We took the kayaks out one day to explore the lake and it was awesome. There are adult and child-sized life vests, which made it possible for us to take our daughter in the lake safely. Like everything else in the house, all these items are top quality.
-The house is nearby to things like The Slab and Longhorn Cavern, and delicious burgers at Reverend Jims. There is also an adorable little fruit stand up the road with U-Pick flowers.
I wish I could have stayed there forever! This place is awesome.

My goodness Mrs. G.. That is quite a review. We do appreciate all your kind words and your 5 star review. It is nice of you to recognize all the hard work that went into making the house as comfortable as possible for our guests. We do strive to supply the house with the highest quality linens, towels, and even water toys. For example, while most any brand of kayak would do, we supplied the house with Kayaks from LL Bean, the best in outdoor equipment. And thank you again for leaving the house in such beautiful shape. We hope that you will look us up again the next time you are down this way. You are always welcome at the Lake Buchanan Guest House. Take care.
This property was amazing and we will be looking into renting again. The boys loved the game room and having access to the dock so they could fish and swim. The house was spacious and beautiful. It had a real home feel to it. The trees and grass are beautiful. Mark and Joan are great host they have everything you need and ready for use. They always updated us with info. Mark is a sweet guy we definitely enjoyed our stay here. The dock and private boat ramp was a plus for us. Thank you for allowing us to be a guest here.

And thank you for leaving the home in such beautiful shape. We hope to see you & your family back again the next time you are looking to spend some time on Lake Buchanan. Have a great summer!
Wow! The location was perfect to meet up with our family camping at RV park. House was fully equipped with anything and everything you could possibly imagine. Wish we had more time to use some of the so many amenities and toys this home offered. Well worth every penny! Thank you so much for hosting us. We'd love to come back sometime! 5 ***** all the way!

My husband and a few of his lifelong friends enjoyed their extended weekend getaway so much we are already planning a time we can go back as a family. Location on the lake was prime for fishing and boating and so nice not having to launch and load every time him and his friends wanted to get out on the water. Hosts were awesome with their recommendations on places to check out in the area and were super responsive to questions. All around great experience and highly recommend!

For my birthday I decided to take my family away from the Houston city life and escape to nature. This lake house was perfect for this! It has a lovely view of the lake, a large backyard with a fire pit and a boat dock. We went in the cold winter and I would 100% stay at this house again in the summer. They provide all the goodies - tubes, water skis, life vests, super soakers! The home had everything we needed - logs and fire starters for the bond fire, coffee pods, a bottle of filtered water for the coffee. Thanks for a great getaway with the family!!

Thank you for the 5 Star Review and the kind words. While your stay occurred during the dead of winter, it was great that you discovered all the great things there are to do in the winter here around Lake Buchanan. Whether it is fishing off the dock; taking a tour of the cove in our LL Bean Kayaks; touring Longhorn Caverns; hiking Enchanted Rock State Park & Inks Lake State Park; gazing at the stars at the observatory at Canyon of the Eagles; mountain biking at Spider Mountain Bike Park; eating Bar-B-Q at Coopers in Llano or Bluebonnet Cafe in Marble Falls; and entertaining the kids at the new Putters & Gutters in Marble Falls; there is always plenty to do no matter what time of the year you choose to stay with us here on Lake Buchanan. And thank you for leaving the house is such great shape. You and your family are welcome back here any time. We hope to see you the next time you think about coming up this way from Houston. Take care.
This house was a great location for some Family Time!
The lake was beautiful, great cove for fishing, close to Caves and Hiking !
There are games, books, ping pong, corn hole… and much more. Kids would love it!
The place is so we’ll taken care of. Owner lives next door and is very responsive if you need anything!
The lake view is so wonderful! There is a nice fire pit area to overlook the lake.
We really enjoyed our time here!

Hey Staci! Thank you so much for your 5 Star Review. And congratulations of your son catching fish off the dock! You were the 1st guests to enjoy our new fire pit and garden lights. We hope they made your stay more enjoyable. And good for you for renting a boat and exploring the lake. Take care. Be safe. We hope to see you back during one of the warmer months of the year to truly enjoy lake life here at the Lake Buchanan Guest House.
We had a wedding to attend in Oatmeal and decided to make Lake weekend out of it. This property was wonderful. Clean, well supplied, comfortable beds, beautiful lake views. Pier to fish from, lake chairs to enjoy the views, big oaks to shade your relaxing. Kayaks and life vest and inner tubes for the lake, but was too cool for us to enjoy this time. Ping-pong and puzzles kept the kids busy.
We will be back! Thank you.

Thank you for the terrific 5-Star Review. We do appreciate it. As a late Fall guest, your use of the lake can be somewhat limited. As you found out, we do provide our rec room with ping pong, corn hole, and other games for your family’s enjoyment when getting into the lake is not an option. We will be adding a fire pit this coming week to give our guests a warm & toasty option for sitting beside the lake and enjoying the evening. We will also be adding garden string lights to light up the waterfront to make it more usable after dark. We look forward to your family’s return, so you can experience the improvements going in this month. Take care and thanks again for the review. We look forward to seeing you all back at the Lake Buchanan Guest House.
Very clean and well appointed property. Loves the view of the cove for sunrise coffee. Boys loved the downstairs room for their lair. Ping pong table and games galore. Kayaks are a nice way to enjoy the cove. We would definitely recommend the property and stay there again.

Web! Thank you for the 5 Star Review and the kind words. We are glad that your family enjoyed the Kayaks, games, water blasters and the like in the rec room downstairs. You are our first guests to use the house that were planning on visiting the Spider Mountain Bike Park just north of our VRBO on the same lake. It looks like a lot of fun and a great addition to a weekend at the lake. Thanks again for the glowing review. We hope you think of us the next time you think of staying on the lake and blasting down the trails at the bike park. Take care.
About the host
Hosted by Joan and Mark Blankenship
We have lived waterfront on Lake Buchanan for over 40 years. We live close by so we can react quickly to the needs of our guests.
Why they chose this property
This is a small yet intimate neighborhood of 40 or so waterfront homes on Lake Buchanan. The homes in this neighborhood have been passed down through several generations of families. Families that live and play here have been doing so since the 1960’s and 1970’s. It is a very tight knit group that is very much like one big family. Neighbors still wave when they walk by and stop to ask how you are doing. This is so very rare in today’s go-go world where we our lives our non-stop. You will think you have been taken back in time.
What makes this property unique
This is a 2-story property originally built as a lake house and not a primary residence. The house takes you back to the “Leave it to Beaver” days when lake houses and lake vacations were a normal part of life in Texas. This stunning 2-story property sits back in a protected cove on the southern end of Lake Buchanan with beautiful views of the 2-mile long Buchanan Dam that is lit up at night. The protected waterfront with its own boat dock means that family and friends can swim and play in the cove without fear of passing boats. The protected cove and the sweeping view creates an idyllic setting that is rarely seen on such a large lake.
