Mobile home needs a little TLC inside. Other than that, it was perfect for our family stay. Love seeing the deer everyday. Proximity to Custer State Park and other attractions was great. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals. It's a great location if you're traveling with family.
This property was clean and cozy. Our family had good time relaxing after a full day of discovering Black Hills. Deer came really close to where we can see them from the back door. It’s quiet there. Very peaceful. Would recommend 100%!
Price was right for a 3 bedroom, 2 bath mobile home rental. Beds were very comfortable. We had a herd of deer visit us everyday in the yard, which was wonderful. Kitchen was spacious and worked well for us. Enjoyed our stay. Keep in mind that this is a dated home. So if you’re seeking ultra modern, move on.
We absolutely loved the views in the backyard and the deer that would come to visit through out our stay. Nice safe neighborhood and only a few miles from town so we couldn’t have asked for more!
The house was great for our family - 4 adults and 4 kids. Quiet location up in the hills, quick trip to town. The house had everything we needed and we loved being able to sit on the porch and watch the deer!

Nice relaxing area and outdoor space. Quiet! Great place to stay to go places around Custer State Park. Very good kitchen set up for those who like to cook.

We had an excellent stay here. The house is in a perfect location just outside of Custer. At dusk and dawn, there was abundant wildlife; everybody loved watching the deer. The house was very clean and very cozy, and communication with the owner was spot on. The neighbor was super friendly; my granddaughter immediately loved her. It's a great place close to all the attractions in the Black Hills.
The property was in a very quiet area with lots of wildlife around. The house was clean and well furnished. There was not a dishwasher that would have been nice but not necessary. The home appeared to be a prefab home but it was a nice place for a short visit with our son and grandsons.
We came into town to watch the roundup. With my mom and father in law. We enjoyed ourselves. Only suggestion is to kill the wasps. House smelled a little dated or unused. Towel rack kept falling off in one bathroom. It was nice and peaceful location and loved seeing all the deer every night

Worn out, smells bad, and in need of maintenance
I have never been compelled to submit a negative review before, but am doing for the benefit of other potential guests.
Unfortunately, this property was not as described, or as the pictures showed. It was very worn, and although not dirty - it was very much in need of attention in many areas. The home has a bad odor, that was explained to be because of well water. While that is common with well water, it was not the only or perhaps even, the primary bad odor in the home. The use of fragrance tools to overcome the odor also added to the offensive odor. Old and not clean pillows on the beds. Old bedding shoved in the closets to the point of not being able to hang clothes in the closet. Unsealed window airconditioner allowed a large amount of stink bugs inside. Large splinters on the rotten wood front porch. Holes in the walls ... I could go on and on. I invited 4 family members to join me for vacation and was incredibly embarassed by my choice of this property. I was prepared that it was remotely located, a mobile home that was previously a lived in home. However, the description and the photos shown - were not reflective of reality. When I contacted Daun, she was sorry that I wasn't happy - but offered no relief. She also forwarded a text message stream where someone referred to me as a pain in the ass. This property would be parallel to a stay at a roadside motel - Motel 6.

Please disregard this review and take a moment to read through the other reviews so you can get a true picture of what a special place my rental is. The negativity of this review is a sad testimony to how unkind people can be. From the very first day, it was clear that nothing I could do was going to make them happy, other than a free stay. I was very responsive to their requests and complaints and even allowed them to check in early and to let their friend park a camper for free for a night on the property. The house has new pillows and bedding purchased in July 2021 (when it became a rental). The air-conditioner needed a new piece of weather stripping, which I immediately remedied. The porch is scheduled for a new coat of paint this spring and by no means has rotten wood. I was very sorry to hear that the renters had a bad reaction to the very common slight earthy smell of well water. That is just a part of the charm that this house in the woods has. This house is a clean, cozy, and comfortable home on over 2 acres that previously had a 4.8-star cumulative rating from all of my very satisfied renters. I hope you come and see it for yourself!
Great communication with the host. The home is well kept with improvements where needed. We spent a week here with 3 adult daughters, so 5 total people and we had ample space. The scenery is beautiful and the deer visited each day and night. Great stay!
Nice location, centrally located for the sights. Grocery store and fuel only a short distance. Quiet neighborhood. Lots of wildlife. Great communication with the owner. House wasn't quite as secluded as I had assumed from the pictures, but it worked out fine. Our time was restful and renewing.
We were very happy with our stay in this cabin. It has some great amenities, such as the propane grill and an excellent fire pit. It was conveniently stocked with many useful items. The interior was rustic and tasteful. Overall, it was a comfortable stay. We would recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in Custer.
We enjoyed this property. Daun was very responsive and communicated well before and during our stay. The property had 3 bedrooms as listed which worked well for me and my family for the week. The kitchen was fully stocked. The place was about 7 minutes off the main road, but close to Custer and close to Custer State Park. It is an older home and it had a distinct smell when you walk in, but you got used to it and it wasn't overbearing. The place was cozy, and met our needs for the week!
We really enjoyed our stay at Walking in the woods. The house was very comfortable with plenty of room for our family. Most everything we needed to cook was available including the gas grill. We communicated several times with Daun before our arrival, and she was very helpful answering all of our questions. Our
favorite part was sitting on the back patio and watching the deer cross the beautiful property. Lots of privacy. We also enjoyed making s’mores in the fire pit. We will definitely stay here again when we come back to the Custer area.
We really enjoyed staying here. My boyfriend and I were excited to be able to find something last minute as the original place we had booked was canceled, the day before our vacation started, due to snow. Daun was great, answering my questions quickly and checking to make sure things were going well the first day. The house is nice and homey. The beds were okay to sleep on, a little uncomfortable and the bugs (expected in the mountains) were in odd places such as inside the dryer and bed but it is fall. The property is out on a dirt road that was easy to get to in our car. Houses are closer than we originally thought but the backyard is set farther back so you do have privacy and the deer came pretty closer to us and the house. The house is located perfectly, we went everywhere and enjoyed coming back to relax at the end of the day. We grilled most nights, the grill was pretty dirty and old but usable after a good cleaning. Had a great vacation and thoroughly enjoyed the house. Thanks Daun!
Came to Custer to go on the hot air balloon. This location was excellent, close enough to run into town if we needed something.. House was clean and has everything you will need. Host was quick to answer any questions.
My parents have owned this amazing getaway for more than 20 years. I recently purchased it from them to allow us to keep it in the family when it became too much for them to manage.
Why they chose this property
It's a beautiful property on 2 acres. The location is perfect to enjoy all that the Black Hills has to offer. It also holds 20+ years of memories for me, my family, and my friends. It's truly a special place and I can't wait to share it with you.
What makes this property unique
My property backs up to the Black Hills in a quiet neighborhood outside of Custer. The house has almost every amenity that you could desire. The deer come right up to the back door. The location is ideal for visiting Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, The Mickelson Trail, Rapid City, Deadwood, Sturgis, etc, etc, etc.
