About this property

Beautiful Black Hills Home just minutes from so many attractions.

This is a home we built in 2007 that we have enjoyed and taken care of on every level. It is completely furnished with nothing but comfort in mind. 2 leather couches, 2 recliner chairs, along with very comfortable bedding, big screen tv in living area and extremely nice decorations to give you the feel of cozy and comfort in every room. All you need to bring is your food.
We supply you with a single stall in our 2 car garage to assure you have a place to park inside if a summer storm would happen to come through, or to put your car in for a cold winter night if you are staying in the cold months.
In floor heat is like no heat you have ever experienced as the heat comes up from the floor instead of from vents blowing air. The AC is a wall unit located in the main living area. It rarely gets hot enough here that it does not cool very nicely throughout the whole house. We do have a large standing fan in the master bedroom if more air is need to be moved in that room if it ever gets that warm. Cozy covered porch complete with patio furniture, washer and dryer along with all the things you will need in the kitchen to prepare a large meal or the smallest snack. We have full cable along with wifi, however we do not provide a computer, so you will need to bring your own device to work with.
The master bedroom is complete with Cable TV, California king size bed with very cozy bedding, a master bath and shower along with a desk to work from if you need to do any work from home. 1 large ceiling fan. It also has a large walk in closet. Full view windows to watch wildlife right outside the home in the back yard if you decide to leave the blinds open. We supply 2 twin bunk style mattress's that can be put on the floor in the living room or master bed room for the extra kids or adults to use. You will find them and blankets in the master bed room closet.
The second bedroom is very spacious also, with a huge closet, very comfortable queen size sleigh bed with super cozy bedding, cable tv and ceiling fan. The location is perfect for someone wanting to see all the sites as it is just a short distance to all the hotspots in the Blackhills region. We work very hard to keep everything in great shape by either replacing needed items with new or taking care of things as needed in this home to assure you the best stay with no problems. It is only minutes from Crazy Horse Mountain and also Mount Rushmore. Endless hiking including Black Elk Peak, the highest point in the Black Hills. Multiple lakes less than 3-5 miles away that are excellent for fishing and all types of water sports. Eagle viewing along with many other types of bird watching is unmatched in this location. We have even seen an occasional mountain lion in the area. The deer population is unbelievable. They will come right up to the house and even lay in the backyard, just outside the walls of the home.
This is a very quite neighborhood that is mainly retired individuals that have moved there from all over the country to enjoy the splendor and serenity of the Black Hills, and with that I can assure you, no disappointments from the peaceful sunrises to the crystal clear star lit skies as night falls across the mountain range all around your viewing area from the front or back porch area of this home.
So many have said, there is just nothing like sitting on that back covered porch on those early pristine mornings with a light jacket, deer less than 30 feet away, birds of all kinds awakening with sunrise and the best cup of hot coffee your hands can hold in its warm mug just taking in what mother nature has provided in all its glory. The fact is, we have spent time in Colorado and many other locations around the US and it is no secret that viewing birds and animals in their natural habitat cannot be matched to what you will find in the Black Hills region of South Dakota.
What we and many others like about the Black Hills, is the fact it is so open to hiking and just plain getting out of your car and looking around. Let me tell you it is hard to find a no parking sign in this area. It seems many locations you go to, it is impossible to get out and explore the area, not in The Black Hills. Enjoy your stay and make sure to let us know if there is anyway we can help you make it the best vacation you ever had. Kevin Houtwed

Beautiful, comfortable Black Hills home central to everything you want to see!

We loved our stay at this great Custer home. The house was in a good location so that we could take day trips to many areas in the Black Hills from Hot Springs to Spearfish. You are right down the road from Custer State Park, Mt. Rushmore, Sylvan Lake, and fun tourist attractions along Highway 16. The house is comfortable with everything you need. My kids loved playing in the yard and seeing the deer graze each evening often in the back yard! Just across the street is a prairie dog town just off the Michelson bike trail. The owners are very responsive and will help you with any questions or needs. If this house is available, snag it for your vacation Home-Away-From-Home!

A relaxing, peaceful getaway...our home-away-from-home for the week

This is a property my husband and I would recommend to anyone for your Black Hills getaway. The home was immaculately clean, comfortable, and well-stocked with anything one would need other than groceries. There was more than enough space for my family of 3, and I could see a much larger group also being right at home. We even had a chance to meet the owners on our first day, and they gave us lots of ideas/suggestions that made the week even more enjoyable. There was an added bonus of watching a "family" of 9-11 deer pass our patio each evening during the 7:00 hour and pass back through about 8:30. My son came to look forward to this each evening. We also enjoyed the covered patio in the evenings and looked forward to resting and recharging in the cool night air as we planned our next day of sight-seeing and fun. The close proximity to all of the locations we wanted to visit was appreciated too. The added convenience of a grocery store/shopping less than minutes away made for easy planning and an occasional splurge of ice cream for dessert. We will eagerly seek out this property the next time we return to the Black Hills, and we already have family members wanting the address. I can easily say this is the best property we have stayed at in our 25 years of vacationing as a married couple. You can't go wrong!!!

Loved the location and neighborhood. We took walks in the mornings and would see turkeys and deer. Our son said the guest bed is pretty hard and uncomfortable but I thought the master bed was comfortable. The dumpster was completely full when we arrived. We checked out all the area lakes and went for hikes. Also did a ATV ride out of Custer.

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful home in the Black Hills! Everything was nice and tidy when we arrived, and it felt warm and welcoming from the moment we walked in. The beds were incredibly comfortable and we all slept so well. The kitchen was well-stocked, making it easy to prepare quick breakfasts before heading out.The location was perfect for visiting the Badlands, Wind Cave, Jewel Cave, Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore, and Crazy Horse. We loved coming back each evening to relax in such a peaceful, cozy space. The living room was perfect for unwinding, and there was plenty of room for our family to spread out without feeling crowded. This home was the perfect base for our adventures, and we’d absolutely stay here again. Highly recommend to anyone visiting the area!

We are a family from Nebraska that built this home in 2007 in Custer because we love the Black Hills and wanted to spend more time there. My wife has taught for 30 plus years as a Resource Teacher in the local high school and I have a company called Hotwoods that we manufacture pontoon boats and docks along with many other related items. We have 2 beautiful Daughters, One Son in law and 2 wonderful Grand children, A very special foreign exchange student, we call our Son, and our dog Mia. and we are very involved with our work and family, but always find time to enjoy the Beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota.

Why they chose this property

This property has everything you need to enjoy your stay in the Black Hills. We completely furnished it with the best things we could find. This makes it very comfortable while staying here. Leather couches, Big screen cable tv, Very comfortable bedding along with all the things to make a kitchen a kitchen. Keep in mind we set this up for our family and now we are offering it to you to enjoy. The location is very close to everything you will want to do while in the Black Hills. It is located 51 miles from Sturgis, SD. The mountain countryside style neighborhood is not only very safe, it is very quiet for those porch setting days and evenings. In minutes you can be at Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse or any location in the Custer state park. It also has many excellent fishing lakes very close. Hiking and biking trails less than 200 yards from the front door. Deer and turkeys along with fox will be seen regularly all around the property as well as many different species of birds.
Shopping does not get any better than Rapid City located 45 miles away via the most scenic drive in the mountains, along with attractions like Bear Mountain and Reptile Gardens. These are places where you can really get up close and personal with wild bear, elk, wolf, and every type of reptile known to man.
Then there is the Badlands of South Dakota. Located about 90 miles to the east of our home, you will not believe what you will see there, as it looks just like the moon surface. This is a great area to hike and see wildlife like mountain goats, along with many large birds or prey.
Right down the road a few miles from the Badlands is Wall, SD, where you will find Wall Drug, that has been a vacation hot spot for visitors for over 100 years.

What makes this property unique

This home has no steps. It is all new so you do not have to worry about problems while staying. It has an attached garage that allows you to use 1 stall while you stay. A remote for the garage door is provided. It can be found on the sun visor of the jeep in the garage. Our care takers are very close, if there ever would be an issue with something. You will have complete access to everything you need while you stay. You can always contact myself ( Kevin ) or my wife Karen on our cell phones if you need to for any reason.
