We loved our weekend stay at Sugar Cove. The cabin is super cute and comfortable. Everything we needed was provided, including kitchen supplies, cozy blankets, comfortable bedding, and a selection of DVDs for evening movies. There is no WiFi, but we had good cell reception.Thank you for sharing your pet friendly space for a relaxing weekend up north.
Took mom and dad to stay in this lovely cabin on Sugar Island for their 60th wedding anniversary. Now as we pulled up to the cabin, I attempted to set expectations, telling everyone that the photos online, ALWAYS exceed reality, so please, 'temper' your enthusiasm until after we've been inside. After running inside to survey the inside, my gf emerged beaming w/ excitement on fabulous the accommodations were to see real time. Albeit its cozy environment, it was perfectly suited for 4 adults in the two bedrooms. We had an enjoyable two days and will be looking at future dates as our schedules permit.
The beds are like sleeping on clouds, but you need a better movie selection. Beautiful spot on the river.Lots of privacy, lots of wildlife in the area. And you don't really need videos to have a good time there. I love everything about the place very beautiful and relaxing weekend differently coming back.
What a peaceful place to get away and relax. Only was there for an overnight, but would definitely like to come back and spend some time exploring the island and surrounding area. Took advantage of the kayaks at the cabin to get out on the river and had a relaxing fire and watched the sunset. Fred and Candace are wonderful hosts. You need to check out this little piece of paradise. ...paradisechof paradisecadin
We loved the cabin, the property, the view, the peace and quiet, the genuine feeling of getting away from it all. Plenty to do in the surrounding area —Great Lakes museums, Taqhamenon Falls, the Soo Locks, watching massive freighters navigate the St. Mary’s River. We could not have asked for a better week.
Stayed here for a state fishing tournament for my son and we had a great time. The cabin was on beautiful property and just as listed. It is right on the water so the views were stunning. Cabin was clean and comfy. Highly recommend to anyone looking to stay on the island.
This is a wonderful (tiny!) cabin at the back of a gorgeous riverfront property (the owners have their own home on the same land but nicely set back--the cabin is right on the river across from Canada). Beautifully appointed, very comfortable, and it's on a lovely island (the directions were perfect for taking the ferry, just a 90 second ride, to get there). Do note: it's a TINY cabin. Two bedrooms, yes, but these are very small. This is not a complaint at all, just a cautionary note: if you go with others, be sure you like be close together! :-) I will defintely go back.
We enjoyed a relaxing week sitting by the river watching the boats and the birds during the day and the bonfire at night. Perfect place to unwind and leave the day to day stress behind!
My family loved our stay at Sugar Cove. The hosts have put great thought into ensuring you have a pleasant stay. The property has amazing views of the St. Mary’s River and is stocked with outdoor amenities for all. There is a full kitchen which made staying on Sugar Island so relaxing. The Westshore Store has everything you would need if you forget anything and even has ice cream for the kiddos. I’ve read reviews about no cellphone service but all our devices worked fine (Verizon). We will definitely visit Sugar Cove again soon.
Such a nice, well-appointed cabin with great views of the river and total privacy. We loved everything about our stay, and our hosts were very kind and accommodating.
The kitchen has almost everything you would need to cook every meal! Measuring cups, baking dishes, pots and pans, etc.
The bunk beds appeared to be double bed sized, so plenty of room for an adult to spread out. Just watch your head!
I truly appreciated the fans in every room. We had no problem keeping cool.
The kayaks went unused but we thought about it many times while being lazy instead.
Love the adirondack chairs by the house and the fire pit close to the water!
If you plan to go back to the mainland during your stay, you might want to wait to buy your ferry pass. Our hosts were kind enough to provide a pass with one trip for each day of our stay. Not sure if they will forever offer this service, but it was much appreciated!
My only criticism (more like an FYI) is the bathroom. I know the cabin is older, so I imagine there were limitations when it was renovated. However, the bathroom is tricky to navigate in the dark. It has a step up to enter the room and then two different levels inside. There is a night light, which helps, but expect to trip over the steps at least once.
Overall, we had an amazing stay. My sister joked that I shouldn't leave such a nice review so more people wouldn't know about this place, because we want it all to ourselves! :)
We find this on VRBO when looking for lodging while we were attending a USCG event at Station Sault Ste Marie and the locks.
The cabin was very nice but very "cozy". Bathroom is very small and one must be very careful with the steps inside the bathroom so as to not trip and fall. The listing does indicate no internet, so none was expect. What was not expected was the lack of cellphone coverage. Has to cancel an on-line meeting because of that issued (understand that it no the owners responsibility). The listing does say television provided which implies being able to get some stations. However, the only thing the TV is set up for is a DVD player. Believe investing $100 in a good digital outdoor TV antenna would be a nice addition.
The wooded site is very quite and was great at the end of long days on base. Our two dogs ( Golden Retriever and a Golden Sheppard) were right at home with the big yard and the woods.
The property is outstanding but the issue was that I was coming from Canada and a fishing trip and my buddy had a stroke and is still in Canada. I stayed here Friday evening and headed back home the next day. Also learned my brother was in ICU after cardiac arrest so I needed to get home. Bad week! Fred and Candace have a wonderful property and we have stayed before. Highly recommended!!!!
Quaint and cozy cabin on a beautiful property! The cabin was very clean and comfortable. Communication from the host was excellent. We would definitely stay again. Wish we could have stayed longer!
Just a note that once on the island there is only one bar that serves food, and one nice little store that has a good variety of necessities, so plan accordingly.
We had a wonderful week away at this adorable cottage on a beautiful island! We moved our son into LSSU and enjoyed the rest of the week exploring the island! The property and views were just what we needed!
Very clean, quiet and well maintained property in a tranquil, park-like setting. Owners are very attentive and always accessible. A real nice place that made for a very pleasant stay!
This is a gorgeous cabin. It was spacious enough for our family of 7. We had plans to leave the island but ended up just staying and enjoying the cabin , kayaks, sand, water and view. It is very peaceful. The ferry was also smooth and didn't add a lot of time to the travel. The island is fairly large , with I believe 1 general store and 1 restaurant. We bought food before we got on the island so we wouldn't have to leave. We didn't really use the bikes but they were nice. there are 3 single kayaks and water toys. The dock and lawn area is beautiful.
Loved watching the geese go by and the sunset. the bed situation is good, pull out couch in living room, 1 bed in 1 room and a bunk bed in the other. the top bunk is very close to the ceiling is the only drawback there. Shower had lots of hot water. Next time we hope to explore the waterfall.
