Beachfront Cabin on Straits of Mackinac

Our home is located right on the Straits of Mackinac. With scenic views of Mackinac Island, the Mackinac Bridge and the freighters passing, it is the most relaxing getaway. We are located just over a mile away from one of the ferry lines that take you to Mackinac Island and walking distance from the Lumber Jack show. We are right on the water so you have your own beach. The house also come with free access to a local waterpark and discounts to local restaurants.

Everything in the cottage feels about 40 years old, and very low quality. Cheap blinds do not block out light, no hand towels or washcloths in kitchen, powder room is right off kitchen with a door that won't close because the washing machine is too big so if someone is in the kitchen you have zero privacy in the bathroom. Dirty old couch and throw pilliws, filthy, broken outdoor chairs etc. I message the owner asking where I might find some kitchen towels or paper towel.She responded by leaving 1 roll of the cheapest paper towel on the dirty floor of the garage for me.

Great views !

The house was clean and very close to the ferry pick up point ! Jodi was kind and helpful if we had questions . Beach is right on the backyard with beautiful views from the porch. you have free access to the bridge vista beach too ! That’s an added plus when you stay here . I would stay here again !

Macinac Beachfront

The house was clean and comfortable with a beautiful view of the lake and the bridge. We especially enjoyed the screened in porch overlooking the lake and having a full kitchen. On the negative side there was a distinct gas odor in the garage and I would have liked to have extra garbage bags and a few dish towels. I would definitely stay there again!

The unit was just as described. Amazing views and beach! Freighters traveled all day long, and the bridge at night was stunning. So close to town. Peaceful with the private beach!

PROPERTY ADVERTIZED WAS OLDER THAN I THOUGHT. UNIT HAD CLOSED UP FOR QUITE AWHILE, NOT AIRED OUT. BEDS & MATTRESSES WERE OLD, BUT OK TO SLEEP ON, COUCH WAS AN OLD BROKEN FOLD-OUT BED, THE FRAME SANK IN THE MIDDLE. HAD TO SHOVE A CUSHION SO YOU COULD WATVH TV.. ESPECIALLY WHEN SLEEPING, TOO.THE THE KITCHEN WAS OK, BUT NEEDED UPDATED .COOKWARE. THE HALF BATH WAS TOO SMALL AND YOU COULDN'T SHUT THE DOOR BECAUSE OF THE NEW OVERSIZED WASHER. LIGHTING IS POOR AND ALSO NEEDS UPDATING. THERE WERE SOME SHORTS IN ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS WHICH ALL THE WIRING SHOULD BE CHECKED BY A LICENSE ELECTRICIAN. THE BEDROOMS WERE SMALL,OLD, AND STUFFY. DIDN'T COOK ANY MEALS THERE. GARAGE DOOR WAS LOCKED SO YOU COULDN'T RAISE IT TO BRING IN SUPPLIES. DRIVEWAY WAS A SINGLE LANE SO WE HAD TO CONSTANTLY MOVE VEHICLES AROUND, WHAT DREW ME TOTHE PROPERTY WAS ITS CLOSENESS TO THE BAY. VERY BEAUTIFUL WATCHING THE SHIPPING, MACKINAC ISLAND AND THE BRIDGE LITE UP AT NIGHT. OVERALL THE PRICE WAS TOO STEE[ FOR THE OLD ACCOMADATIONS FOR 3 DAYS. WHAT I DID'N'T KNOW AT THE TIME WAS THAT MACKINAW CITY HAD BEEN BUILT UP SO NICLY WITH MOTELS EVERYWHERE, WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN A LOT CHEEPER AND MORE MODERN.. I'M REALLY DISAPPOINTED IN VRBO FOR NOT CHECKING OUT THIS PROPERTY. I THINK YOU SHOULD CONSIDER BREAKING TIES THESE PEOPLE AS THEY LIVE IN MANSIONS DOWN THE BLOCK. NEIGHBORS SAY THEY NEVER DO ANYTHING TO THE CABIN.

Great potential, but needs work

Location is very good and the view was amazing, but the floors were very dirty. Our socks got black just walking around the house. When we arrived we had to walk through the garage to access the home. There were a lot of garbage bags in the garage and coupled with the heat of the day it smelled awful. It would be nice to keep garbage away from the only entry point to the home. The bathroom door to the half bath does not close because of the washing machine. The vanity in the full bath has a broken mirror and the lights do not work. The beds were decently comfortable but my kids found black hairs in theirs under the blankets. The chairs for the two dining tables were covered in stains and looked dusty. We also noticed ants coming from the wall behind the sink while we were washing dishes. The screened porch has poorly fitting screens which allow bugs to enter the home. There is a tree/bush growing directly next to the steps on the back screened porch, which makes it difficult to enter and exit the area. We did not have a lot of trouble, but for older guests this could be a problem. This property could easily be a 4 or 5 star location. It just needs some touchups and attention to detail.

Would not recommend. Poorly kept property. VERY strong natural gas odor. Neglected!!!!

No communication from host. Reached out 4 times before Jodi responded. Overpriced-bath door doesn’t close, no fans, urine odor, broken screens, broken outside furniture, hole in flooring, hole in walls, no ceiling fans in common area, furniture is dilapidated. Grass is overgrown and so many bugs as a result. Wastebasket in kitchen instead of trash can. Could go on and on. Don’t recommend!

Beautiful Mackinaw City, WOW view, yikes accommodations

Unfortunately the house and yard combo here is just meh at best. The owner is known in the neighborhood for not caring about this property…right on Lake Huron. The grass had not been mowed in several weeks and looked embarrassing right next to many beautiful spots lining the shore. I am not sure why they would not take more pride in their home city, a beautiful place in our home country, and mow your lawn (among other things) so guests coming in enjoy it more. Whoever we communicated with was kind and accommodating, and I suspect they are not directly responsible for the lack of care for the property. Nice spot on Lake Huron, temper expectations though.

Help me help you - do NOT book this property!

Mackinaw City itself is beautiful; this house is an embarrassment to the area. There are reasons the host provides no outside photos of the home. The gutters are falling off and overall is completely dilapidated. The door you enter through garage is broken. There are old appliances in the garage that actually prohibit you from being able to park inside even though it is listed as an amenity. Upon entering the home we discovered it was filthy. While the listing claims they utilize cleaning personnel, and in fact charge a cleaning fee, there was dust and cobwebs everywhere, the dishes were disgusting, tracks of windows and doors were so bug-filled they hardly closed, and visible handprints and grim on the walls. Inside what we are assuming is a never-cleaned oven was a used pan. While there are two rooms with toilets, only one has a door that closes because of a disproportionately sized washing machine. In the main bathroom the toilet paper dispenser remains broken as seen in a previously posted review. The ancient shower faucet allows you to either scald or freeze. There were lightbulbs out and multiple holes in the wall in the sunroom. It should not be listed as having more than 2 queen beds because the pull-out couch is missing so many springs it should come with a warning. What little communication we did receive was INCREDIBLY rude & did not resolve any of the issues brought up except the cleaning of the oven, but I imagine the cleaners were uttery exhausted after that job

Shockingly Bad

When we arrived, the property looked so dilapidated and abandoned that we thought we had gone to the wrong place. A swarm of bugs immediately surrounded our car. The grass was unkempt and had not been mowed in some time. The gutters were falling off the house and the exterior walls were filthy. We were given a code to use on a lockbox, but there was no lock box to be found, so we had to call the owner. She confirmed we were at the right place and that the keypad was located on a door inside of the garage. Unfortunately, the code did not work and after several attempts, the keypad locked us out. We had to call the owner back for assistance and she was even more irritated and unfriendly on the second call. She said in a huff, “I’ll send someone to assist you,” and before we could ask how long or even thank her for the help, she hung up! She also did not apologize for the inconvenience nor acknowledge our message when we let her know the next morning that we had checked out. Worst customer service experience we’ve had with a rental. Not only that, the interior needs a lot of work. Dishes were grimy. Toilet paper holder broken off the wall. Blinds broken/missing. Screen doors had so many dead bugs in the tracking they couldn’t open. No broom in the house. A washer/dryer is listed as an amenity, but there is no laundry soap to be found! Sheets were cheap and uncomfortable. Very few amenities for what is being charged. Way overpriced and not worth it even with the nice view. :(

The location of this property was very nice – quiet neighborhood with a great view. It was also convenient to have laundry available during our stay.Unfortunately, the overall experience was disappointing. The house was not clean when we arrived (dust on lamps, dirty radiant heat units, and the oven/stovetop not cleaned). The heating system was not working, and the garage was nearly 90 degrees, so we had to leave the garage door open to help heat the house. The décor was extremely outdated, and some pieces were damaged. Essential kitchen items were missing (no mixing bowls, measuring cups, or oven mitts), and the bathroom had several issues – burned out lights and a missing center mirror from the trifold.Communication could also be improved, as we had to reach out to the owner before arrival since no entry instructions were provided.With some simple, inexpensive updates and better attention to cleanliness, this place could be a much more enjoyable stay. However, until improvements are made, I would not recommend this property.

Wonderful place right on lake heron. Our dogs love the opportunity to stretch their legs a bit. Porch has sliding doors so we opened them up to hear the waves.

The view is amazing and made this a memorable stay. The view cannot be beat and was lovely. However there are some important things to know, especially if planning to stay with a family and cook: inside fridge doesn't work, no dishwasher (or dishsoap), water smells and tastes like sulfur, heater is very noisy waking up kiddos, pull out bed missing many springs so adults wouldn't be able to use, garage is not connected to the opener so you can't use it to park your car. There is a fridge in the garage that saved our food but wish the one in the house warned us with a sign at least as this seems to be an ongoing problem. Overall a deep cleaning, having some maintenance done to the property and updating furniture could make this worth 500 a night minimum. We appreciate the discount but weren't quite sure what we were getting into.There was a surprise pool included at a local hotel which was nice and had a lazy river and hot tub. The slides were all shut down there and also in need of maintenance but it was a nice perk we didn't expect. Thankful for that and the view. Linens and towels were clean which was also nice. I grew up in an old house and know they are harder to keep up but this one needs some attention. Heater servicing and perhaps water heater servicing would go a long way to making this a more enjoyable stay.
