Stunning Views From Picture Windows!

We were extremely happy with our stay in Walter's home.It truly felt like our home away from home. The bed was very comfortable, the kitchen was great and the location superb!!! We spent 9 nights and could easily have stayed longer. Each day we hiked in amazing locations and werehappy to return "home" to a cup of tea, sitting in the rocking chairs looking at the beautiful surroundings. It was easily one of the most relaxing and peaceful holidays we've had. Walter was a wonderful host, he provided information prior to our visit and was available during the stay if we needed him. Thank you Walter, for sharing your beautiful home!

Perfect

I could have written this on the second day, absolutely wonderful, peaceful, clean, comforting and beautiful property. They had everything you could possibly want and need both on property and in the area. The creek and trees on the property are breathtaking, it’s close to town and grocery stores. This by far was the best place to spend a vacation. Thank you!!!

Wonderful McCloud Experience

We really loved the McCloud cabin! It’s very pretty, homey, well-appointed and in a great, woodsy, location. I think it’s a perfect spot for friends and family to enjoy an extended stay to fish, hike or just explore the area. Communication with our host was prompt and welcoming. Looking forward to coming back, hopefully this fall.

Relaxing & Secluded

Nice property with plenty of space between cabins to get that remote feeling. The creek was full and all the plants were lush. We saw deer both in the morning and evening. It is a forest so not for the faint of heart as there was plenty of bugs around the cabin.

A lovely winter getaway

Everything about this property was great! There was plenty of space for my family to spread out to play games, cook, and watch movies while still feeling together. We really enjoyed the proximity to nature and being able to enjoy the gorgeous views of the meadow and trees through the massive windows. All in all, a great time was had by everyone!

A getaway you can’t pass up on

From the decor inside the home to the amount of space on the property this stay had it all. The gorgeous windows allowed you to sit back relax and enjoy the wildlife around. We saw deers everyday to a few jack rabbits roaming about. Thank you for the welcoming feel to your home.

My family and I had a fabulous time relaxing and enjoying down time in this cozy, stocked cabin!

This well-stocked cabin set in a pristine forested area with a creek running on the property was the perfect setting for my family and me to spend the last get away before summer ended! The location made it easy to get to the swimming area for our four year old grandson to enjoy, while afterward a hike around the shore of Castle Lake was a must for all of the family to enjoy! Thank you for your hospitality!

Heaven sent from booking reservation to checking out

The property host was probably one of the best I have worked with. He made us feel so welcome and provided all the information needed for our stay. The home is very clean, nice and welcoming. The views from the were amazing. The home is not only exactly as described but better! Kitchen is well stocked. Home is comfy especially the beds. Easily accommodated our family of 7 adults, 1 child and 1 dog. Cool creek! Loved the wildlife especially the deer. If we could give more than 5 stars we would. Love, love, love this place. BEAUTIFUL CABIN IN A BEAUTIFUL AREA!!

This was a lovely house, too nice to really call a cabin. The living area is open and spacious, the kitchen is roomy and the whole house was spotless. Only a few minutes away from skiing which was really handy. The sulfur smell to the water took a little getting used to, but seemed to dissipate while we were there. Bring your own drinking water. I'd love to stay here again when I hike to the top of Shasta!!

Awesome McCloud Cabin

We all loved staying here. The cabin had everything: great view of forest on the property, roomy living area and kitchen (kitchen was well-supplied), the bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable and clean, wonderful deck with view and BBQ grill, lovely creek for fishing. The host was very friendly, kept in touch via emails, instructions were clear. Other than a few minor details that needed improving (which we communicated to the host, who said he'd fix), it was a perfect stay. Highly recommend.

Beautiful and relaxing property with plenty of space!

We had an amazing stay at this property during a decent sized snow storm. Lots of opportunity for recreation nearby, but our young family had plenty of fun sledding at the property, checking out the creek and playing in the snow. Had everything we needed to be comfortable with a great wood stove and amazing living room with huge windows and views into the forest. No need to leave the property for us, but our quick excursions to McCloud and Shasta were also very fun. Would love to spend more time in the area as it is rich with recreation and local spots. Host was very communicative and made sure we had everything we needed. Can't wait to return across the seasons, thanks!

Simply Wonderful!

My daughter and I spent a much-needed vacation together at this lovely home. The owner Walter is a wonderful person and so very easy to communicate with. We spent our days reading, talking and just enjoying the solitude that was provided. Being that it's late October it was a bit nippy if we wanted to spend time outside on the deck, but nothing bundling up couldn't solve. We felt like Queens for the week and we look forward to renting here again. If you're looking for a place to unwind and relax as the world spins by, I very highly recommend this beautiful home. Thank you Walter for sharing your magical home with us!

Beautiful area close to everything

When we arrived we were impressed by the look of the home the lovely area and Colin was surprised that Mt Shasta was so close. Colin helped us get settled and then set off to ski. We explored the area and were happy to see the creek in the back. Roxy took a dive and loved it. Afterwards we settled down inside in the living room. Roxy slept and i painted. Before I knew it, Colin was back and he was full of tales of a fun adventure and of course we shared ours as well. The home is quite roomy and we were kind of lost at first in it, but at the same time it is quite cozy and very relaxing. Again I want to thank you for sharing your home with us and we would love to come again.

First-time stay with our group of retired teachers

Our group had a great stay. The accommodations were excellent. The property is spacious, sufficiently secluded, and spotless. Plenty of room for our group of seven to visit, eat, and lounge after our fishing trips to the lake. The kitchen was well supplied with current appliances and there were plenty of pots, pans, utensils, and dishes. Both bathrooms were in good repair with nice showers and courtesy fans. The bedrooms were nice, also. Carpeted floors, comfortable beds, bed-tables, lamps, wooden blinds, and modern windows to open for fresh air. There is a central utility closet stocked with extra TP, paper towels, regular towels, extra linen and a washer and dryer. The large, partially covered, composite, deck area came in handy when there were afternoon thunderstorms. The gas BBQ was on this deck and worked well. A concern for us: the heaviness of one of the boats and the steepness of the gravel driveway made for a challenging and exciting exit for the 2-wheel drive pickup each time we left. All-in-all it was a great place to stay and a wonderful experience for us all. This was our first time at this property, and working with Walter to make sure everything would be the best it could be was very easy and professional. All communication was handled right away and in a way that showed us that he was truly interested in us having a good fit and a good experience. We will be looking to come back next year!

Spectacular view of a winter wonderland

Part of the wonder of our trip was the perfect timing of two snow storms, but the house itself contributed immensely. The view out the windows into the meadow and woods was spectacular. The snow could have been there, but if there were no windows to see it, then the trip would have been greatly diminished. It was magical watching it snow. Walter, our host, was extremely helpful and responsive via text. I am grateful for the heads up to park up on the main road once snow started falling. No doubt we would have gotten stuck had we not heeded his advice as the driveway is steep and pine needles and the snow limit traction. On our first full day there we had a brief-ish power outage. Walter reported the outage to the local power company and power was restored in a few hours, which was good because the well doesn't work if there is no power. Luckily we had plenty to drink and could collect water in the form of snow melting for flushing the toilet if needed. It wasn't. The house is well insulated because during the outage we stayed warm, even without building a fire in the wood stove, which we were hesitant to do with a 15-month-old who wants to touch EVERYTHING. All the beds were comfy and the set up was ideal for creating great memories. We cooked virtually every meal (we went to Floyd's Frosty for burgers one day--a great place!) and found everything we needed to make full meals, and there were plenty of plates, silverware etc. for our largish group. An amazing stay.

About the host

Host profile image
We purchased this 2.5 acre lot back in 1973 and spent years camping in the meadow. After the kids got old enough to complain about camping AND could afford to help pay for a mortgage ... we built this wonderful vacation home. Now, we spend winters skiing at Mt. Shasta and summers fishing the McCloud and other area rivers. The town is absolutely wonderful. Don't miss this!

Why they chose this property

Peace and quiet prevail. Just minutes from quaint McCloud, there is plenty to do in this forested wonderland.

What makes this property unique

Squaw Valley creek runs through the property on the other side of the meadow with its own huge fire pit. Big windows and so close to town, golf, biking, fishing, skiing/boarding, swimming, rock climbing, shopping, day tripping, and so much more. The house boasts red pine floors, granite counters, plenty of parking for you and your boat, a spacious deck for entertaining and BBQs, room for horseshoes or Wiffle ball, quiet neighbors, big meadow-view windows, 2 couches for relaxing, Bluetooth stereo, WiFi, satellite TV, extra sleds and saucers … and serenity galore!
