Great House for Shasta Ski Trip

Our family had a wonderful weekend in this house. The bedrooms fit our family's needs and everything was just easy and do-able. It was comfortable and casual with extra bedding and towels, a washer/dryer, and everything else you'd need for a winter weekend away. We were close enough to Mt. Shasta for easy drives to and from skiing. We'd love to stay here again.

Perfect location to experience Mt. Shasta

This property is perfectly located to access the Mt. Shasta Ski Park and its adjacent cross-country Nordic Skiing Center. You can get there within 15 minutes. Waterfalls, lakes, and hikes are also easily accessible. It is all about location. We look forward to also visit in the summer.

Loved it

This property worked well for us. Very clean with all the amenities we are used to. While working out of town this was a perfect get away from it all. Communication was awesome with the owner calling us to see if there was anything we needed. Thank you Joe! We enjoyed our stay.

MCloud Forest Get A Way!

We had a very nice time at this cute house in the trees of McCloud. It was really hot that week but we stayed cool and enjoyed evenings and mornings on the porch swing. Saw a rabbit each morning, a couple of deer and one coyote. It was very quiet, peaceful and comfortable. Big kitchen counter was great. My husband saw a bear down by the river when fishing and caught several fish. Very happy to have dog friendly house rental option. Usually we camp but I had some work to do so the house doubled as a very serene remote office. Our dogs loved it too!

Beautiful home and property!

We did our annual family vacation and stayed here this year. The neighborhood was beautiful and private. Close drive to town but still like a getaway. The house was lovely. We enjoyed laying in the hammock outside. The leather couches were super comfy and there was plenty of seating at the kitchen bar countertop and the kitchen table for eating and socializing. It had all the kitchen and bathroom amenities that we needed. The only complains were the uncomfortable Queen beds in all the rooms. I’m sorry but these should be replaced as we all had really tough nights sleeping and woke up with stiff and sore backs. However the King bed in the master was nice and comfy. Also, though it is pet friendly they do not allow pets in the bedrooms, on the beds or on the furniture. The floors are wood so you’ll need to bring pet beds to put on the floors and if your dogs are not used to sleeping alone this may be a problem for you. This would have been better to disclose prior to booking the room but not a deal breaker for us. We really enjoyed our stay it was nice and clean and large enough for a big family. Would recommend!

Lovely getaway

We had a terrific stay. The house is wonderfully comfortable, kitchen is well stocked and beds are nice. My son spent a lot of time biking around the property on his mountain bike, and had a lot of fun. The town of McCloud is postcard perfect also, really great.

Great Snow Cabin

This was a quick, last-minute New Year's snow trip. Initially, there wasn't any snow, but a few inches fell the night we arrived, and we had a fantastic time. On our way up, we visited the Shasta Caverns and stopped at Burney Falls on the way down. It was an excellent trip for the family. Besides playing in the snow on the 2 1/2 acres, there's also a great free sledding hill just 10 minutes away. We all had a wonderful time; the house perfectly accommodated our family of eight, and the Internet was great for streaming shows.

Great House Beautiful Property

Visiting as two couples, we found the house spacious and well stocked. The weather turned chilly and the Monitor stove worked like a charm to heat the house. Great neighborhood to walk the dog. Enjoyed watching two young deer browsing in the yard. We checked out the town of MCCloud and enjoyed dinner at the “Axe” and a breakfast at Bogeys. Very good location to check out the towns of Mt Shasta, Weed and Etna. Thank you for the hospitality

Wonderful stay in a wonderful location

We visited the Mt Shasta area with friends, having heard that the location was lovely, peaceful and interesting. We all much prefer to have intimate space to prepare breakfast and snacks before heading out, to relax at the end of a day's exploring, and to cook our own food. Hotels don't meet those requirements, but Joe's home absolutely did. His facility lacked nothing that we needed. So much so that we'll return next year for another restorative week!

Family getaway

The house was spacious and clean. Sadly, the garbage storage is not adequate, thus we had to haul our trash with us to other trash locations. The yard would be so inviting, except it was August, and obvious it had never been raked or water (no grass.) if those items were accomplished, it would be a huge improvement. We did not anticipate raking pine needles and branches ourselves.

We had wonderful time!

The house is clean and well-maintained, we really enjoyed the setting - the woods and a quiet neighborhood. You can take nice long walks right from the house. The nearby pasture with cows and horses is very picturesque. We loved being in close proximity to fantastic trailheads and destinations like lava caves, multiple waterfalls, lakes, Shasta Caverns, Castle Crags, and, of course, Mt Shasta. There are plenty of options for shopping and eating out, too.

Quiet peaceful forest getaway near natural attractions for day trips.

We four adults enjoyed this Shasta Pines house with a large open style living/dining room with kitchen area. The furniture was comfortable and so were the bedrooms. The house is in a mature forest and private from the neighboring houses. Inside the house was clean and the kitchen was well stocked with cooking equipment and dinner ware. The kitchen has modern appliances and a u-shaped granite counter with eating area with 4 stools at the counter. And there is a dining table for 6 adults. It had a modest supply of condiments, enough to get by on but we brought along our own meal prep supplies for all our needs. We used the outdoor gas b-b-q on the covered front porch/deck too. The dish washer worked well after we learned to set the controls and press the Start button BEFORE we closed the dishwasher door. We enjoyed the McCloud area with a day trip to Lake Siskiyou. We rented 2 tandem kayaks and had a great time. The Castle Crags can be viewed after a drive and short hike to a viewing location. The hiking trail up the Crags is Very steep so we gave it a pass and hiked along the nearby Sacramento river tributary and picnicked there. McCloud has a good grocery store (10 minute drive) and an ice-cream parlor on the same block. McCloud has a lot more stores and restaurants. We have visited McCloud on a previous trip and explored the town before.

Great Location, Just Some Things You Should Know

My wife, our infant daughter, our friends (another couple) and their infant daughter stayed here for about four days. I'll start by saying that the location is great. Lots of privacy. About 20 minutes from Mt. Shasta (the town), Lake Siskiyou, etc. The house itself is big, with three bedrooms, a nice sized common area, and it's all on a pretty big plot of land that's surrounded by trees (again, lots of privacy). But there were a few issues that were hard for us to ignore. First, the AC problem. I'll note that the listing very clearly says that the house does NOT come with AC. This was not at all misleading, and we knew going in that it might be warm in the day but could expect considerably cooler evenings. In fact, when night rolled around, we often had to turn off the fan in the room because it got so chilly. The issue, really, is that the front yard of the house is essentially just a dirt pit. And because there's no AC in the house, because we have to keep the windows open all day to let some breeze in and heat out, all that dirt from the front "yard" ends up inside the house. This means not only that the floors are constantly dirty (which, fine, we can wear shoes or sandals or socks), but that there's a layer of dirt on all the couches/sofas, the countertops, the coffee machine, stove, etc. Essentially anything you leave out will end up with a layer of dirt on it. This makes for a really uncomfortable situation. And you can't really close the windows because of how warm it can get. I'm not saying they need to install an AC. It's livable without one. But you can't not have an AC and have a pit of dirt outside the house. Maybe get some pavers or gravel or something. Anything to cover up that dirt. The second thing is the water heater. The breaker switched off a few times. We emailed the owner about this, and to his credit, he responded fairly quickly, but we decided against having him or a repairman come out and to just check the breaker over and again (we really didn't want to deal with a lengthy repair on our vacation). This was our choice and not necessarily a knock on the house. That said, it sucks for the breaker to consistently go out. Another issue is that the water heater basically allowed for only two showers. Not sure if it's got a ton of build-up inside, but we found ourselves having to boil water for our kids' baths. All in all, this is a nice place, but you should know these bits of info before booking.
