About this property

Premium Sullivan's Island Beachfront Condo! The Best Location on the Island.

Welcome to 'Seaglass Serenity'... Incredible location.... Beachfront at the mouth of Charleston Harbor, this charming ground floor condominium has views of both the Atlantic Ocean and Charleston Harbor.

The wide sandy beach is ideal for sunbathing, swimming, fishing, or launching small sailboats. The National Park Service and the Town of Sullivan's Island maintain over a mile of undeveloped, protected beach and maritime forest adjacent to the property where you can have undisturbed strolls on the beach. The condo is immediately next door to Fort Moultrie, a National Historic Site with museum and tours, that played significant roles in both the Revolutionary War and Civil War. Fort Sumter, site of the first conflict of the Civil War, can be seen across the harbor. The main channel into Charleston lies nearby, allowing clear views of every ship passing into or out of the harbor. Dolphins play just offshore.

This condo is one of four individually owned units that were originally built as Army Nurse's quarters circa 1910, and are the only vacation rental beachfront condominiums on Sullivan's Island. This unique historic property preserves the charm of the hundred-year-old structure, but this unit has been renovated and professionally decorated to appeal to today's traveler. The condominium features large front and back screened porches with ceiling fans, rocking chairs, swing, and dining area. The remodeled back porch features a Charleston Bed Swing. Inside, the original hardwood floors give the condominium the feel of an old Southern beach cottage, while providing all modern amenities including flat-panel HDTVs (2) with Cable TV, stereo with iPod dock, and High Speed Wi-Fi. The ground floor location allows easy access with parking only a few steps away. The condo has two bedrooms with the beach-side bedroom having a queen bed, while the rear bedroom has two singles.

Sullivan's Island provides a location that is quiet, uncrowded, with a very relaxed lifestyle. There is not a single traffic light on the island. The island is primarily residential; yet it has several excellent restaurants, post office, library, art gallery, and small grocery store within a mile of the condo. The three-mile-long island is perfect for exploring by bicycle or golf cart. Public tennis courts and playground are just down the street. One of the beauties of this quiet oceanfront paradise is that it is only a 15-minute drive from historic downtown Charleston and even closer to the shopping and dining areas of Mount Pleasant.

*This is a Saturday-Saturday, weekly only, rental from mid May through August; 3 night minimum in offseason. *

This is our favorite place to stay when we're in the Charleston area! Check-in is effortless, and the condo is cute and clean. We love having a full kitchen with all the appliances, dishware and utensils we need to use. They recognize that their guests are on vacation, so don't even ask you to strip the beds on the (always chaotic and rushed) morning of check-out! Wonderful place, wonderful owners.

Charming Cottage

Spent a week enjoying Charleston and Sullivan's Island. This property is charming. It is very old and quirky but we absolutely loved it! The beds were comfy and it had everything we needed for a week at the beach. While I it was not an issue this is right next to one of the only beach access where cars can be parked. The beach was always busy and there was a lot of coming and going in this narrow drive that is shared with the cottage.

Fabulous stay on Sullivan's Island!

We had a fabulous stay on Sullivan's Island at this wonderful condo. The condo was clean and ideally located on the island. We watched beautiful sunsets in the evening over Fort Sumter and took morning walks on the beach to watch the sun rise over the Atlantic. We would definitely recommend this condo.

Fantastic place to enjoy one of Charleston's most charming islands

We stayed for a long weekend at this terrific beachfront condo with our two young daughters and couldn't have been happier. The location by the beach and next to Fort Moultrie is ideal -- tucked away on the very relaxed Sullivans Island and still just a short drive from Charleston. We'll definitely come back!

Best vacation ever!

We absolutely loved this place. The owners provided top of the line bedding, towels and extras. The place is beautiful and the location was amazing! We stayed for 7 nights and enjoyed watching the ships roll in and out of the Charleston Bay. We enjoyed seeing the sand crabs every night on the beach. We could not have asked for more. We will definitely stay here again.

Best of the old, New and Whimsical!

The owners have created the best of the old, new and whimsical in their remodeling of this old historic home on Sullivans Island! Comfortable and inviting accommodation! Watching the ships go by and the incredible sunsets ( courtesy of God) were added bonuses to make a wonderful weekend stay!

Amazing Location!

This property is situated on a beautiful part of Sullivans Island, SC. The condo needs to be freshened up and polished up to what it uses to be which would change my rating. I would go back if work was done one it.

Serenity was exactly that ar Seaglass Serenity

Exactly as it was described. Don’t expect a sealed up modern house. Furniture, swings and beds are extremely comfortable. Walls and ceilings are not sound proof but the other guests were all so polite. Views are amazing. No hype commercial 100% Thank you for allowing us to enjoy true southern comfort

Sullivan's Beach

The Sullivan Beach house has been one of my favorite stays so far. The house is adorable. It was the perfect size for my family of four with two teenage daughters. The view is phenomenal, we miss that screened in porch and swing! The house has everything you need. The beds and sheets were very comfortable and the shower is great! Best part for us was the proximity to Charleston and other points of interest. It was like having a beach/city vacation all in one.

Spectacular views

Seaglass Serenity is ideally located at the entrance to Charleston Harbor, affording close encounters with the many ships coming into and out of the harbor. We saw dolphins, pelicans, and osprey daily! The condo is nicely decorated and the kitchen well equipped. The best feature of the house is the screened porch, where we spent many hours despite the rain. We also enjoyed sitting in the Adirondack chairs overlooking the water with glasses of wine in hand!

Perfect Location, Jewel of a Home

From the front porch or from the Adirondack Chairs by the beach, you can look up from your book or glass of wine as a loaded container vessel slips into or out of the Charleston Harbor. The view of the water was endlessly fascinating. This unit, one of four located across the alley from Fort Moultrie, is full of art and books and thoughtfully selected cooking and dining paraphernalia. Fully stocked with basic (and not so basic) kitchen and cleaning supplies, one can begin to relax as soon as you walk in the door. It's a short drive to historic Charleston and to Isle of Palms, many excellent restaurants close by. We will definitely book again, What a delightful place to stay!

Perfect respite

A wonderful two bedroom apartment right on the beach. Check-in was easy and the property owner was so helpful and responsive to our questions. The apartment is lovely -- decorated very "Sullivan's Islandesque" everything is up-to-date, well appointed and very clean. The screened in porch and outdoor Adirondack chairs were a favorite place for us to hang out. Throughout our short stay, we saw dolphins, all kinds of birds and large ships coming into the Charleston port. Such a relaxing and peaceful place. We only wish we could have stayed longer. Next time we will for sure! Thanks for providing such a much needed respite!

In-laws Enjoyed their time!

They said they had a great time! There was anything and everything they needed. We will def rent again. Their own thoughts were- there are lots of full counters/cabinets/cupboards/bookshelves. No where to actually Our items away. They had to leave their groceries sitting on the counter. Maybe a few open drawers or available kitchen cabinets or shelves would be nice for guests to place their personal items. Thank you!

Return visit as wonderful as the first

We love this little spot. Our family returned for the second year in a row. What a wonderful week! We love the location in the Island. We rented golf carts for our daily trips to the Co-Op (amazing iced coffee and sandwiches) which we enjoyed while sitting on the perfect screened in porch as we watched the barges and other ships go by. My husband and I enjoyed daily walks around the southern loops of the island. We did venture to downtown Charleston one evening, but we were all very eager and relieved to cross back over the bridge to our little spot. We love SI, SC! It was another wonderful family vacation, and we will be back. :)

Beach time and family time in the Lowcountry

We spent a really lovely week at Seaglass Serenity with our two children, ages 13 and 10. It was the perfect spot to unwind after a long school year! The cottage was cozy, beautifully decorated, clean and had everything we needed to just move right in. We loved the front porch and enjoyed breakfast and lunch on it daily. Our favorite part was watching all the ships going to and fro Charleston Harbour ... huge tankers, cruise ships, shrimp boats, sailboats. It was fun to wonder where they were going or coming from! The beach was very nice and the water the perfect temperature. We appreciated the beach chairs, towels and sand toys. We loved looking out onto Fort Sumter and watching them raise and lower the flag daily. Being next to Fort Moultrie was very fun and we enjoyed exploring the Fort and learning more about the history of Sullivan's Island. We ate some amazing meals that we are still dreaming about ... the food is that good! Obstinate Daughter, Butcher & Bee, Little Jack's, Leon's Oyster Shop to name a few. We also enjoyed a kayak tour in the salt marsh estuaries as well as an eco tour to Caper's Island .. recommend both to really get a sense of the beauty of this area. By the end of the week, none of us wanted to leave this beautiful and tranquil spot. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us and we hope to be back, soon!

The Perfect Closure For This Family

What was planned as a sister's trip last fall turned out to also be a celebration of my husband's (their brother's) life. We had not stayed in this unit before but loved every minute being there. As children, they visited their grandfather at this property. He lived upstairs in the unit that is a personal residence. They spent every summer playing on the beach and hours and hours exploring Ft. Moultrie, sleeping on the porch and listening to the ships at night. After the graveside service at Magnolia Cemetery, we brought our children back to visit because they had never been inside any of the units. We had pictures on display of my husband from those early years for follks to enjoy. Reminiscing through the pictures and looking out to where it all happened was an incredible joy for us all. To be able to share those memories with 2 more generations! They spent time on the beach, time at the fort, and hours talking and laughing. It was the perfect closure for us. Thank you for the chance to enjoy Sea Glass and the Serenity we found there. We soaked up all the low country life we possibly could! The condo is so comfortable and beautiful. The books, the history, the decor all added to the comfort we found. We look forward to our next trip and hope it will be soon!!!

My Dream Condo

This was our second time to stay at Seaglass Serenity on Sullivan's Island, SC, and it was even better than the first time. We were there from May 28-June 4, 2016. 1) There is now a keyless entry; this has made me see the light! I must have one; 2) The hose at the doorway so that you can spray your feet and shoes; 3) The tray on the porch to store the shoes for drying; 4) The bathroom--I love that shower; 5) Lamps--good lamps--everywhere--sometimes you just want to sit in a chair and read; 6) And you can because if you forgot your own, Laura has supplied books, both easy beach reads and more in-depth volumes on SC history; 7) The front porch--my--I mean, Laura's--rockers and screens and ceiling fans. As I was sitting there one day, I thought, "I could really use an ottoman." I glanced at the swing and there it was! There's a table between the rockers for your tea or other beverage and the view is perfect. Eat on the porch--it's perfect. It's a very short walk to the beach, but if you don't feel up to it, just sit on the porch and watch the ships go by. It's a great way to pass a day. I could go on but you'd start thinking I was making it up. One last thing--I was sitting on the porch with my drink and my book--my feet on that ottoman--when I remarked that I really just needed a cat to make it perfect. I went inside for a minute, came back out, and there was a cat! If you don't like cats, there's a porch door that she cannot open, but if you do like them, she's ready to be liked. Great place with all the amenities you could want. Don't hesitate--book it today before I get to it again. And eat the shrimp roll at The Obstinate Daughter. Really good. Make a reservation. Most sincerely, Denise Sherrod

Wonderfully well appointed, perfect location!

There were beautiful fresh flowers to greet us when we arrived. Seaglass Serenity was clean and fresh and very welcoming. Two couples stayed in this lovely condo. We were there for my 60th birthday and it could not have been a better visit. The space in the living room is larger than seen in the pictures and the seating for four was perfect and particularly comfortable. The air conditioning is great (it hit 100 degrees when we were there) and the beds were wonderfully comfortable to fall into once a full day of relaxing, eating and having the time of our lives was over. The bathroom was well lit and the shower was great - the bath towels supplied were large and luxurious. We spent a good amount of time sitting on the front porch having breakfast, lunch and dinner or just relaxing and watching the ships go by. One of our party did some small water colors at the large table while the rest of us worked hard at nothing. The two ceiling fans mitigated some of the heat and there was often a lovely breeze. We cooked several times in the kitchen and used the grill as well with great success. There was a coal chimney for quick starting the fire. (One small thing that might be a handy addition to the truly wonderfully supplied kitchen could be some long handled grill tools, fork, tongs and spatula for use on the grill). My husband enjoyed the close proximity of the fort and took advantage of that to visit it a few times. The location is wonderful for getting into Charleston and Mount Pleasant where you will find everything you need for groceries, wine and other supplies. There's even a Whole Foods for gourmet shopping. We dined at Page's Okra Grill in Mount Pleasant - well worth the 20 minute wait. And of course Magnolias and Husk in Charleston (make reservations well in advance for both - you won't be disappointed!). We sat in the chairs with the view of the beach in the morning (just a few folks taking early morning walks - it feels like your own private spot) and in the dark of evening watched as the large ships lights glided by - sometimes passing one another. Magical. We truly hated to leave what came to feel like our own perfect beach house - I sort of didn't want to leave a glowing review - this condo is already much in demand and we hope to return - but the owners deserve great kudos and recognition for the care they have shown in decorating and maintaining this genuinely great vacation space.

About the host

Hosted by Laura Wall

Host profile image
We are a family of four from Atlanta who have been vacationing in the Charleston area and South Carolina Low Country for many years. We have come to enjoy the Charleston area best of all. We find the combination of Southern Charm, history, shopping, and excellent food compelling. Now that we have an anchor at Sullivan's Island, we are happy to share the beautiful, quiet beach; access to wonderful local restaurants -- especially seafood; friendly locals; historic Ft. Moultrie, Ft. Sumter (viewed from our condo), the beautiful ships coming into Charleston Harbor; and historic, authentic, Charleston!

Why they chose this property

We wanted a beachfront location that was free of crowds, quiet and relaxing, yet close to excellent dining and entertainment. We enjoy the history of Charleston from the old rice plantations to the fine pre-revolutionary city homes. Charleston has a grace and charm that few American cities possess. From the performances of the Spoleto Festival, the excellent antique shopping, the tours of historic sites, to the Shrimp boats and fishing charters on Shem Creek, Charleston captivates. Sullivan's Island provides easy access to all this, but seems a world away from the bustle.

What makes this property unique

Our unit is one of a four-plex that are the only beachfront condominiums on Sullivans Island. The Island does not permit hotels or motels on the Island and new short term rentals are not allowed, making our condo a rare opportunity to stay beachfront on Sullivan's Island. This is an extremely relaxing location, beachfront at the Charleston harbor entrance where dolphins play, and you get close up views of all the ships entering the harbor. The island is perfect for bicycle riding, has several excellent restaurants within a mile, and is loaded with history. Outdoor activities abound, from deep sea fishing, to wildlife tours of the salt march, to excellent golf on nearby Isle of Palms.
