This really was a great home in a great location! When we arrived we were surprised to really see the home sitting on the side of a bluff (just as described) - it was such a beautiful setting! The home was clean and had all you need.
This house was the perfect getaway for our home away from home during the holidays. The host was so gracious to leave our kids a decorated Christmas tree to pull up to. Cleanliness, kitchen stocked with everything one may need and comfortable beds to sleep in when night fell upon us. The hosts were easy to get a hold of with any questions that came up, with prompt responses. I would highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a place to call home while on vacation. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
Our family loved our stay, had everything we needed for the family after a long day out touring the town. Enjoyed being in a quiet neighborhood and the privacy of the area. Heather was very responsive when needing question answered. Would highly recommend people to stay here.
My sister and I stayed for a short trip to explore the UP. The house was very clean, had everything we needed, and was in a great location. We would love to stay again in the future.
It was a well kept clean and fully stocked kitchen with appliances and cookware. The crock pot was especially a good idea as we could have warm good meals at the end of a long day. It's centrally located for easy access for things to do.
Located in a nice neighborhood on Lake Bancroft, this cozy retreat met and exceeded our expectations. It's an old house with creaky floors (sometimes) and an old steep staircase, but the hosts have thoughtfully and imaginatively upgraded the kitchen and bathroom, making it easy and enjoyable to use. While our main destination was marquette, we liked what we found in ishpeming. We recommend!
The house was super cute and very clean. We felt very comfortable during our stay. It was great to have the streaming services, too! The kids loved watching a little TV while we got ready in the morning and at night. There was a lot to do in the area. The neighborhood was quiet. We will definitely book again next year!
Thoughtfully renovated old house with a restful backing of wooded area chirping with birds in the mornings.. every detail in this house is intentional - the beds are wonderfully comfortable, the color scheme is therapeutic, the window views are lovely. You will not regret stopping in here!
The Bluff is a wonderful house with a great view and wonderful host! The house was perfect for our family of 5 + dog. Wonderfully decorated, cozy and had everything we needed! Location was perfect for all of our upper peninsula activities. Two things to note - the bathroom is upstairs (worked fine for us, but good to note depending on guests mobility) and the parking/drive is on a steep hill (again, fine for us but in the winter you may have trouble without an SUV).
We had a great stay, would highly recommend the Bluff and will stay again if we visit the area!
Heather is a fabulous, responsive host and the location could not have been better for our stay during the Marji Gesick. The house is cozy, clean, and comfortable. Quiet neighborhood and within walking distance to a cute lakefront park. While the listing states there are 2 bedrooms, access to the second bedroom and the bathroom requires passing through the first bedroom, so it is not a truly private space, which is something to consider depending on who you are travelling with.
The property had all the amenities we needed plus extras we didn't. The host was so kind as to supply a slow cooker for us. One less thing to pack. PERFECT location to hiking and biking trails. We definitely are planning a return visit. Having air condition was a huge benefit because the weather was extra warm.
Enjoyed our stay at the bluff house! Quiet neighborhood with plenty of space for us and our grandpuppy in the home. Loved the decorating with homey touches nd color schemes. Hersheys kisses in a ceramic house and doggy treats in canister were fun little touches. Heather was very easy to reach and communicate with! Nice perk....it was super close to our daughter's new apartment! 😊

The Bluff
Overall it was a cozy option rather than a hotel. Great communication with owners and very quaint house. Loved the gas fireplace. Note the beds are full not queen, not sure if I missed that. Kitchen could have been equipped with more items (measuring cups, larger pots and pans, and no dishwasher.) Loved that it was pet friendly and they had bowls, treats and a chain for a dog. Wished there was more grass area for pets. Overall a great stay!
We enjoyed our time. The house is an older home with character that has been nicely renovated and continues to get a few updates.
For future renters: the upstairs is a nice space to sleep 4 plus the bathroom. The two sleeping areas and the bathroom are separated by slider type door, and the one sleeping area is in the landing area of the upstairs.
It is all completely acceptable and worked for our family of 4.
Heather was very accessible to answer all of our questions and was very easy to work with.
we were in the UP for NMU orientation as well as a bit of a family vacation. We decided to stay outside of marquette so we could explore the area a bit more. This place is close enough to marquette that you can easily get there, but also far enough away that you can see other things. It is centrally located and close to grocery stores and restaurants. The hosts were excellent and provided us with everything we needed included recommendations for dinner, etc...Being able to bring our dogs was an essential for us and not only were they welcome but there were dog treats, dog bowls, and a tie out for them. Inside the house is nicely remodeled and the beds were super comfy. We also loved the couch and chairs in the living room. This was a great place to stay.
Cute house on the bluff with great view of the lake . Convenient location.
Areas that need to be improved: Have glass removed from the yard especially for those that have dogs. Lack of screens on the windows that made us use the hvac system that made a lot of noise when trying to sleep. The toilet seat was not the right fit and slid all over .
Recommendation: screens on the windows , fix the toilet, have a book that tells you how to use lights ,better lighting in the kitchen, have a TV remote that works, remove the glass shards in the yard, area attractions and restaurants information.
Overall I'd give a 7/10

About the host

My husband and I are life long residents of Ishpeming. We raised our three children as proud Hematites. I am a histoy teacher at the Ishpeming MIddle School. I am passionate about my community and it's local history. We also love to travel and explore new places. Creating a space that is functional and inviting and allows people to enjoy Ishpeming and the rest of the Upper Peninsula seemed like a great fit for me as I consider retirement from teaching.
Why they chose this property
This lovely home sits at the base of Pilot's Knob and directly across from my parents home. We bought it from a tax sale in August of 2021 and began renovating it with the idea that we would share it with visitors to our area. It overlooks Lake Bancroft and has a very unique bluff as a backyard. Next spring we will ad a deck and outdoor firepit area for our guests to enjoy.
What makes this property unique
Nice quiet neighborhood overlooking the lake and close to everything!
