Enjoy the tranquility of the Wisconsin River at rustic Jacks Cabin. Just 100 feet from the back deck flows the river, where you can fish, swim, canoe or kayak, run in the sand or watch large numbers of wildlife. There are deer, turkey, fox, eagles (and many more bird species) to be seen. Smallmouth bass, walleye and pike can be caught in the river by you and your family. The cabin is just 20 minutes from famous Wisconsin Dells or Baraboo. The Aldo Leopold Historical Site is just down the road, and Madison is a short 40 minutes away. Sit on the deck and watch the river flow by.

Great place for our little family with 2 small dogs!! Lots of bugs but we were warned in advance, bug spray was our best friend. Great location, we were able to easily visit Devil’s Lake and the Dells. Cabin had everything we could’ve needed for our stay. We would stay again, thank you!
It was very nice but allot of mosquitos we couldn’t really fish and the dogs none stop barking it was a bit uncomfortable but yes it was a relax weekend

weekend getaway in Baraboo WI
the location and cabin were wonderful. The check-in process was difficult, and I ended up having to stay somewhere else the first night. The host, however, followed up with me late that night and I was able to check-in the next day.
The cabin was fantastic! It was perfect for our 3 day weekend. I was amazed at how clean it was and everything you need is provided. Dogs next door were a little annoying otherwise everything was perfect. We will definitely be back!
Our family group was small with just four of us. Three adults and a 3 year old. We just wanted to get away for the weekend and stay somewhere quiet and cozy. We came up from Illinois and the drive was easy, and while there are a lot of backroads there’s also plenty of signs to make it easy to get to Jack’s cabin. We did get a warning before we came that the mosquitos are fierce and yes, that’s true but we came well prepared (with bracelets and spray) so they weren’t a bother to us. This home is exactly what we needed, so cozy and comforting in its simplicity. The backyard is so amazing spacious, and the river view is breathtaking. Waking up the birds singing in the morning and the water rippling by was calming and beautiful. We will definitely be back!
The house was perfect to unwind and relax, and the view to the river was beautiful. If you are looking to disconnect for a bit, this is a perfect place for it.
We had a wonderful stay the week of 4th of July. We enjoyed the nature and wildlife. You were not joking about those mosquitoes lol but it was so nice and relaxing
We have been coming to Jacks cabin for many years, and no we are visiting with a grandson. Although our last visit was a few years back, we were happy to see no much has changed. It’s a perfect quiet getaway close enough to the Dells to make day trip. It’s always a perfect visit! Thank you for all the memories!
Beautiful location. Right next to the river. Older cottage home. Very quiet and serene. Would stay again!

About the host
Hosted by John Love
This property was purchased by my grandfather, John V. (Jack) Cairns in 1944. I spent weekends and summers there from the time I was five until I enlisted in 1968. I lived there for two years from 1973 to 1975. My grandfather willed this property to his daughter, my mother, who willed it to her four children. The only one with any personal interest in keeping the Cabin was me, so eventually I bought them out. I maintain it as a rental to pay the bills and keep it up.. John Love
