I’ve stayed in a dozen VRBOs, and have never experienced a home so minimally stocked. This is a hunting cabin for short term use, rather than a welcoming rental.
Aspen House is run by a mgmt co., eliminating any responsibility to their tenants. Failure maintenance is the name of the game.
Upon arrival, the only toilet is leaking badly. I called their "contact us" number and leave a message.
The quick return call goes like this, "Yes, we know all about the toilet problem, it was supposed to be looked at before you arrived yesterday. Just turn off the toilet between uses (water supply) and someone will be out tomorrow evening to look at it."
I lay down towels to dry up the leaking toilet, as there are no cleaning supplies.
What else is not available?
- No pot/dish scrubber for kitchen.
- No bleach.
- No oil for cooking.
- No aluminum foil, wax paper, or plastic baggies.
- No left over food from previous tenants: no pasta, oatmeal, coffee, tea, spices (except salt and pepper), or sugar.
- No visiting tourist data like pamphlets, maps, or store/restaurant suggestions.
- No cheap storage containers for packing food into the parks or your day trip (think snacks or sandwich).
- No place to hang clothes (only a short water waders rack).
The kitchen and bathroom are tight (like a very small boat), and the furniture is overly large.
You get one trash bag for your entire visit. For a week, this was seriously inadequate.
The outside light is dinky and practically useless. It illuminates the loft more than the outside. (The non-working flood light would be much better.)
The shower wand and holder are not matched, so the wand is precariously placed in the holder.
The satellite TV "parental controls" cripple the viewing capability at the TV14 level, parental lockout active, no override codes, no master reset code, no help, only excuses. This does not make for very interesting viewing.
Like many rentals, the non-stick pans are non-stick in name only.
There's a DVD player, but no DVDs.
The sliding glass door screen does not move freely, but is rather stuck.
I sent three emails over the course of my visit, and received a response to only one.
There was a nearly full propane cylinder in the downstairs bedroom storage area. A BIG NO NO.
It was not all bad:
Plenty of toilet paper.
Two bedside tables for loft.
The towels are nice.
The beds are fairly comfortable.
Great location (fill and fix those dang potholes in the road!).
On demand hot water heater
