About this property

CHARMING TAOS ADOBE HOME

This is a wonderful old Taos adobe home. The original house (now bedroom #2) was once the home of a family of 9-kitchen and bath then were outdoors. It is thought to be 250+ years old and is considered an historical property. Like many Taos homes it was added to in the ensuing years.

This home is delightful for a couple. It is a spacious home which is unusual for an old adobe. The layout is perfect for a couple and would be especially comfortable for two couples since the two good sized bedrooms each have full, private baths and are separated by the sunroom and great room. There is a queen sofa sleeper in the sunroom and in the great room is another queen sofa sleeper. Both have new gel foam mattresses Both have all bedding. Cost for these sofa sleepers is $25 per guest per night which can be left at departure.
The house is cozy in the winter due to thick adobe walls, two operable kiva fireplaces and very efficient gas heaters in great room and each of the two bedrooms.. There is always a good supply of firewood under the carport.
Summer is delightful and cool inside with screened operable windows and swamp coolers . Great for outdoor living with a covered deck off master bedroom and a wonderful front flagstone patio/ covered portal with table and chairs, BBQ and outdoor fireplace. The house is furnished with interesting antiques. sculpture and original art. The kitchen is fully equipped and ready to produce those gourmet feasts or a quick snack for two. Bathroom #2 has a washer and dryer for those chores that call out even on vacation. The yard is fenced and well behaved dogs are welcome at a small additional fee. ($10 per night per dog. which you may leave at the home."Mutt Mitts" are located in a decorative box outside and "Dog Sheets" provided inside for sofas and beds.
This home was featured on this summers Taos Home & Garden Tour in August for 500+ tour goers. This is my fourth home to be featured on a Tour! Too much fun and such a great compliment to my style!
We just finished re doing both baths with tile and new tubs and great tilework around all kiva fireplaces as well as new flagstone hearths and bancos (benches).
If my calendar shows this home as booked please look at Vrbo 273116 or Vrbo 860840. These are two and three bedroom homes that I also own in Taos.

The house has a wonderful, peaceful feeling and yet is only a few minutes from all Taos has to offer..good restaurants, shops, galleries, the Taos Pueblo and many great outdoor activities).

This place is Totally Taos. Such an enchanting home and space. The trees and surroundings provide a peaceful oasis that's filled with the sounds of birds, frogs and coyotes, and incredible mountain views. The fenced yard was perfect for the two dogs. The location ideal for anything happening in Taos or nearby. We love it.

The home was a unique old adobe home that we really enjoyed. It is old, so comments about uneven floors and low doorways come with this. It was part of the charm for us. We enjoyed the rural area & the fenced in yard was perfect for our pets, and the cute porch off the master bedroom was blissful in the mornings. The home was clean and very comfortable. There were some ants in the kitchen, but for a 250 year old house, this is not unexpected.

Great house!

We had a very fun stay. Weather was a bit warm , but this is New Mexico in July. Loved the artwork in the house and the outdoor seating areas. This property is well cared for and clean.

Never stay just one night

This place was dreamy - no one should stay only 1 night because the home is like a destination for relaxing, reading, meditating, or just bonding with a friend, partner, or family member. Go in May when the weather is perfect, and the lilacs are blooming -it's a place to be quiet and appreciate art.

Fall trip to Taos

This charming historic Adobe is everything one would expect from the name. The house is vintage Taos, including furnishing and decor. The kitchen is well equipped and beds comfy. Melissa is an excellent and responsive host. This will definitely be on our repeat list for next year!

Living in history

The accommodations were excellent! Watching the sunset from the bedroom porch, enjoying a post-hike brew on the patio, breakfast at the expansive dining-room table with mountain views - we enjoyed the house very much. The only down-side were the bed mattresses - a bit too firm. The pull out sofa bed was much more comfortable for my husband and me.

Nice tucked away home, enclosed yard

Charming vintage adobe home. Clean, cozy and warm. Kiva fireplace with ample piñon firewood, made mornings and nights lovely. 2 full baths, warm showers, 2 cozy beds for the 4 of us. Functional fully stocked kitchen with paper towels, coffee, sugar, salt/pepper. Full sized fridge. Large communal dining table. Washing machine did not work, hoses were not connected and never could get an answer about getting clothes washed over a 5 day/ 4 night stay.

Old New Mexico--historical and enchanting!!

My husband had "Spend some time in a New Mexican Adobe in Taos" on his bucket list so when I started to look around, Melissa's lovely home stood out. We booked this home for two weeks in the fall and we were not disappointed in this old beauty. If you are looking for "perfect" keep on looking but if you are looking for "charming, interesting, historical and comfortable," book this house!! Melissa is a busy lady but so knowledgeable about the area when she shares her stories. Her love for creating "homes away from home" is apparent. Melissa is a gem and so is this house. Enjoy!

Rustic and cozy

Nice property off of dirt road, with nice fenced yard. Nicely decorated with southwestern decor. Everything was fine but air conditioner in one of bedrooms did not work well. Other room had a fan and it was pretty warm sleeping. Front entryway could use work- trim back juniper to clear walkway. Could not find 'dog sheets' that were asked to be used. We would stay again, depending on time of year.

Perfect Getaway - Quiet but Close!

What a gem! This house was perfect for my husband and myself when we made a quick trip to Taos to meet some friends. I have stayed in many Taos rentals over the years, but this home stands out. I want to come back as soon as our schedule allows! The yard is great if your pets are welcome, and the outdoor fireplace is good for socializing. The interior is lovely - the history of the home is blended beautifully with necessities for modern living (or vacationing!) In case you needed it to get better, it is close to downtown but being in Ranchos de Taos is still rural! All in all, a great rental, one of the few I've stayed in that I WANT to return for another vacation. Thanks again, Melissa, for providing such a great rental.

Charming and a bit quirky

We enjoyed the stay, but have a few suggestions for Melissa. The listing might include that there are uneven floors for information to help seniors like ourselves. Also that there are some steps to be aware of. The tub in the master bathroom might need a non-slip pad. The artwork and decor was intriguing and delightful. We enjoyed sitting at the dining table with our coffee and breakfast visiting. We were happy with the ceiling fans and the additional fans in our bedrooms. It was a terrific getaway for us and we appreciated the communication with Melissa very much.

Very interesting property

What a charming place. Nice front yard for eating, fenced for a pet. Large space, 2 bed rooms at either end of the house. Very nicely decorated, really beautiful folk art, though the couches are showing their age. Low ceilings, big old beams. The floors are uneven, part of the charm, but a challenge for the alter-abled. Swamp coolers through out the house, not very helpful, but the evening breezes are nice. Very much would appreciate a fan in the bedroom off the kitchen, there is no cross breeze. Laundry is a nice touch! Kitchen well stocked, though I couldnt find scissors. The toilet paper and the beds share something in common, very hard! Perhaps the TP is special for a septic system?

About the host

Hosted by Melissa /Taos mgr.

Host profile image
I was a California landscaper who wanted a simpler life so I moved to Taos. I fell in love with an old adobe home by the river and bought it. Then I fell in love with another old adobe and bought it for a vacation rental. I now own 11 vacation rentals in Taos. Everything from one bedroom apartments, one two and three bedroom homes. All are listed on Vrbo.

Why they chose this property

I love old adobe homes. They have such substance, personality and character This house has a cozy and welcoming feeling that everyone who has stayed here comments on and yet for an old adobe is amazingly spacious. The house has a private enclosed yard, is nicely landscaped.

What makes this property unique

This home has the charm of an old adobe (original room 250 years+) but has all the modern amenities we expect. It is in a quiet location, yet only minutes from all Taos has of offer (i.e. restaurants, galleries, the pueblo and outdoor adventures) I love the deck for sunsets and the outdoor patio, the 2 working kiva fireplaces (Great room and Sunroom) the wood and brick floors and the 46 (count them!) overhead vigas as well as the 14' thick walls. I live in town and am available to answer any questions or provide information.
