About this property

Hillside Retreat, Wooded Country Setting with Private Firepit

The Hillside Retreat is a tiny house (under 400 sq. ft). It is located on the NY Amish Trail, 7 minutes from Cockaigne Ski Resort and just minutes from the Equestrian Trail. Holiday Valley, Casino, National Comedy Museum, and Alleghany State Park make for a nice drive. We are located in a private setting surrounded by nature, shared by the family and other cabins. We just added an EV charger for guests with electric cars. The perfect escape when life gets in the way of relaxation. There is a firepit just across the driveway with a supply of wood. Give us a heads-up if you are running out.

If you plan on booking, please check your messages for further details. Before approval, we need to cover just a couple of things. At this point in time, we don't have the internet at our rentals.

This spring, we did a refresh of the rental. There are new floors in the living area. We hope you enjoy the coziness of Hillside Retreat.

Hillside Retreat is a place to escape from the world - to find relaxation in a peaceful setting. The 14-acre property has several walking paths through the woods if you enjoy morning or evening walks. There are open lawn areas as well as wood areas for exploration. You may see the neighborhood deer on the lower lawn in the evening or early morning. Even though we would prefer they stay out of the garden, there will be times you will see them there. The bunnies are very active on our property - you may see them in the garden as well as on the walking paths. At certain times of the year, the turkey and broods can be heard as they use the pathways.

You stay in a tiny house, but it is big on coziness. Due to the Tiny Home size, there is a full-size bed in the bedroom. Please check out our other listings - The Cottage, if you need a Queen-size bed, and The Chapel, if you prefer a king-size bed.

Throughout the Hillside Retreat, you will see white wood along with plaid and rustic touches. The trees help to keep the tiny house cool, but there is also a window AC unit if you need it a bit cooler. In early summer, you can enjoy watching the lightning bugs from the porch decks. This is your escape from the chaos of everyday life. Enjoy rest, relaxation, and tranquility. There are outdoor lights hung from the trees and solar lights along the path that circles around the front (hill) side of the unit.

You may hear gunshots for target practice or game hunting during hunting season. Our property is in a rural setting, but hunting on our property isn't allowed.

This Hillside Retreat Tiny House boasts all the amenities you could need and décor that will give you that country feel. It’s the perfect stay if you love modern amenities with country tranquility. There is one bedroom (with a double bed) and one bath. In the living room, there is a futon if needed. Enjoy your cup of coffee, a glass of wine, or a bottle of beer on the porch. There is a bistro table if you want to take your meals outside. There is a citronella pot to hold the flying pests at bay. There is a firepit just across the lawn for your use. Usually, there is wood available for the pit, but give us a heads up, and we will make sure you have everything you need. We have specific blankets that you can curl up with at the firepit. Please use the ones in the basket next to the sliding door and not the ones from the tiny house. Relax in the chairs and make s’mores or star gaze.

Due to the coronavirus, we’re taking extra steps to clean and sanitize frequently touched surfaces between reservations. Please feel free to contact us if you need more information.

The kitchenette is fully stocked (cookware/bakeware for the stove/toaster oven), service for four dinnerware, glasses/coffee mugs. There is a microwave and Keurig Coffee Maker for your use. Please note that there is only a two-burner stovetop and a toaster oven - there isn't a full-size oven, but rather a toaster oven. We've added a small crockpot as well as a toaster. They are in the cupboard below the stovetop.

Check with us if you would like to have the grill to use for your stay. We can have it set up for your visit. There is a bistro table and two chairs on the deck for outside dining.

The Hillside Retreat has a TV with an HDTV digital antenna to see the local stations and others (no cable or Wi-Fi). You will find a selection of DVDs for your use if you want to relax with a movie. We have more choices in movies if you don't see something that interests you. Send us a quick text, and we can show you additional titles. There is usually cell service for most carriers – this is a true get-a-way.

There is a fireplace for you to enjoy with your evening beverage of choice and a good book or a movie.

The washer and dryer are available on request. Don't hesitate to get in touch with owners regarding their use.

We just added a charge point EV charger for guests with electric cars.

We also use the units as a stay-cation; we are pet-free due to serious health issues. If you have a service animal, please let us know - thank you for understanding why we need to know.

You can enjoy the walking paths on the property. We ask that you honor the posted signs of neighbors. There is a seasonal pond out back - just a short walk away. Because we are in a wooded area, you may need bug spray.

As you take a walk around the property, you will find a picnic area on the lower lawn as well as a swing near the lower firepit. If you are interested in Horseshoes, let us know - we will get the shoes out and show you the horseshoe pit.

There is a garden you can enjoy. You will find a variety of flowers and seasonal fruit. You are welcome to sample the fruit.

This area has hunters during various game seasons; hunting on our property isn't allowed.

You will share the road with Amish horse and buggy; please be aware they are harder to see at night. If you are shopping at the local Amish stores, please note they are not open on Sundays. You will also need to use cash/checks only. They do not accept credit cards.

Please be sure to answer any questions we send in response to your inquiry or request. (- what brings you to the area, -how many guests will be staying, - any children, etc.) that are sent a short time after we see your request; they are needed before approval can be sent.

For Checkout - we ask that you just pick up. We will take care of stripping the bed, gathering the towels, and taking out the trash.
