We made this cabin our home base for a week long visit to the Black Hills. Great location for the majority of sightseeing, and you can’t beat being 2 minutes from the ski lifts

Hi Dawn, thank you for staying with us at Big Pine Lodge. We are so glad you had such a great time you never had to leave!!
Gathering at the cozy cabin nestled in the woods was a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The cabin was well stocked with everything we needed, from kitchen essentials to board games. The weekend was filled with laughter, good food, and memorable moments. The hot tub was a huge hit, where we relaxed as snow gently fell around us. Magical! It was the perfect setting for quality time with friends and family.

Raven, thank you for staying with us at Big Pine Lodge! We are so glad you loved this cozy cabin and were able to make memories! Thanks for being great guest, come back again!
The cabin was as described. We had 5 people and there was more than enough room. Most cooking utensils were provided. Beds were comfortable. We fit a trailer, side-by-side and 4 vehicles into the parking spaces and didn't have room to spare but it worked. I would rent again.

Hi Teresa, thank you for staying with us at Big Pine Lodge. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and we would love to host you again!
Beds and Couches well used (as in sagging) along with bedspreads, towels and rugs outdated and thin. Plus, bring your own bath soap.

Hi Carolyn, thank you for staying with us at Big Pine Lodge. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and we will definitely be looking into replacing some of the outdated items in the cabin.
The house was in a beautiful spot with wonderful views. It was very quiet and peaceful. Our only complaints would be that the game table and dart board didn't work, there were several places where things could have been cleaner, and the hand soaps provided throughout the house were watered down.
Other than those things, the property is very nice, and we enjoyed our stay very much.

Loved being able to call this beautiful place “home” for a few days!
Very happy we booked this place!! We drove 15 hours from our home in Michigan to Lead, South Dakota. We were thrilled to arrive to this gorgeous, spacious, and clean cabin. We arrived 30/35 min or so before check-in time but the company was understanding and kind enough to allow us in right when we got there.Check in was simple with a security code. We had our 2 small dogs with us and there was plenty of flat space in/around the driveway to take them out to go “potty.” They enjoyed their little walks on the road carefully in their secure harnesses and on their leashes. We looked forward to taking them out each time. The views of the mountains were amazing! Very peaceful surroundings, even though there are other cabins around it. I actually loved that it wasn’t incredibly secluded. It felt safer to me and neighbors were quiet- no complaints at all!We chose to stay in Lead, South Dakota (first time in South Dakota!) because it was a good location to see so many places without having to drive too far in either direction. We made a lot of memories and took tons of pictures as forever keepsakes. After the long days, it was nice to use the hot tub on the lower level deck of the cabin before going to bed. Each morning, we loved sitting on the other deck to relax and take in the cabin views before another big day of sightseeing!Thank you for such a nice place to call “home” while visiting the beautiful state of South Dakota! We recommend staying here!! You won’t regret it!!!

Would likely stay again.
Overall enjoyed the property. Nice furnishings/decor. Very close to Terry Peak which is a huge plus...2 min drive at most. Nice views. The hot tub has seen better days. Patio doors did not lock and should be addressed. Kids (and adults) really enjoyed the hockey game. There is a keurig (not listed in amenities). Kitchen well stocked. Plenty of room to spread out. We had 7 adults and 2 kids without a problem. The mattresses are not the greatest in the downstairs and could use replacing (IMO).
We did lose a day due to blizzard conditions on our travel date forcing us to arrive a day later. The property mgmt has a no refund policy for weather related issues. They were responsive to messaging. Disappointed there is no "human" side to these issues and just a blanket "policy" response. Fortunately, did have travel insurance plan with VRBO (although no credit issued to date).

Thanks for the review Micah! We will get the patio doors looked at asap and we did a maintenance check on the hot tub and it's working great. We do offer travel insurance in case of weather issues but you had already purchased that through homeaway, which is always a good choice in our area in the winter.
Thanks for staying with us!

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
Underwhelmed and smelly
Deadwood Connections manages this property, and while the communication leading up and during the trip was good, the overall experience staying at this location was underwhelming. This particular property is better suited for 10 ppl, not 12. (that's even with kids) The kitchen is VERY small and the counter space is also small. Not ideal for group dinners in the house. We were thankful the weather was pleasant, otherwise it would have been a terrible stay. We had to turn off the air conditioning, as the condensation plate under the air conditioning was broken, leaving the basement carpeting soaking wet. The house smelled of cat urine upon arrival, and if we didn't have the windows open the entire time, being in the house would have been unbearable.
The house wasn't as clean as it should have been. Dead flies all around the house, and dust on counter tops and end tables. Our kids wanted to play the air hockey game, but the glass/plastic lid on the game was broken on all sides.
If you like to enjoy a bonfire at night, this place does not have the space to accomodate.
And lastly, the dryer doesn't dry clothes all the way. We did find out that the lint vent wasn't cleaned for quite some time, having about two inches of lint on the vent. Even after moving the lint from the vent, the dryer didn't dry the way it should. Overall - the stay was wnderwhelming and smelly. Wouldn't stay again.
