The Space: The Hirox is a thoughtfully restored log chalet located in an idyllic setting for relaxing, recharging, and exploring the wonders of the Catskills. The space feels open and expansive, yet cozy and intimate. The Hirox can comfortably accommodate a wide range of guests, from solo writers desiring a quiet space to work to a group of 9 looking to get away from the big city (2.5 hrs from the GW bridge).
Once inside, you will instantly feel the warmth of the honey-hued logs, abundant daylight, and thoughtful eco-friendly personal touches. There is nothing quite like the feel of a true log constructed home. The main level features 20’ vaulted ceilings, an open concept layout with kissing couches, a gas fireplace, and fully updated eat-in Chef’s kitchen with quartz countertops, electric range w/ air fryer, dishwasher, and stocked cabinets (coffee and espresso makers, pots and pans, spices, oils, etc). Cook your heart away while staying fully engaged with friends/family in the living room.
Off the kitchen is a private bedroom with a tempur-pedic queen mattress, luxury linens, a private workspace, and sweeping mountain views, as well as a full bathroom, complete with a toilet bidet.
Up from the main level is an open loft bedroom that pulls you into the treetops while bathing you in natural light from the oversized skylights. The loft features a queen bed, private workspace, bookshelf, and a custom railing with lush living plants.
The ground level serves as the primary entrance to the Hirox and is the perfect place to wind down after a day exploring the Catskill Mountains. It features a flexible entertaining/living space and large dining/activity table that can seat up to 10 people. Custom curtains can be drawn to enclose the sectional sofa, creating either a home theater for streaming movies on the smart TV or a private 3rd bedroom when the sofa is converted to a full-sized bed. In colder months, the ground floor becomes toasty warm with the embedded in floor radiant heat system. A second full bathroom is off the hallway alongside a laundry room with brand new washer and dryer (available for guests staying longer than a week).
No matter where you are inside, you will always feel close to the secluded natural setting. The massive 2,000 sq ft wraparound deck serves as an extension to the main living level, allowing a free flow through or around the house to fully immerse yourself in nature. The deck features an integrated 4’ deep cocktail pool, lounge chairs, propane grill, and awning-covered swings to take in the expansive mountain views and starry night skies.
Once outside, appreciate the open front lawn perfect for yard games or swinging on the hammock. Alongside the house is ‘Onyx Rock’, the natural stone slab where a solo-stove firepit and adirondack chairs are placed. Walk down the driveway to explore the spring fed pond, or up the hill out back to see the dramatic rock formations.
The garage has been converted into an open game area (darts, foosball, kubb, cornhole, etc) with bonus ‘Annex’ loft that can provide additional accommodation to groups of 6 or more, or by request for those wanting more space/privacy*. The Annex has its own HVAC heating/cooling system and features a king and two twin beds, as well as a full living room/seating area. A 10-kw level 2 charger is placed just inside the garage entrance (available upon request for guests with EVs), drawing power from the solar panels on the roof.
There are abundant ways to use and appreciate the Hirox. No matter your group size, you will have access to the following items to make your stay as comfortable and inspired as it can be:
✔ Luxury beds, linens and towels ✔ High speed internet (mobile hotspot w/ 100gb data/month) ✔ Fully stocked Chef's kitchen ✔ Telescope for stargazing ✔ 2k sq ft wraparound deck w/ integrated pool ✔ Ceiling fans ✔ AC unit for summer months ✔ Gas fireplace ✔ Public Goods personal care products ✔ Coffee makers (drip, french press, aero press) ✔ Boardgames and books ✔ Smart TV ✔ Bluetooth stereos ✔ Deck swings and hammock ✔ Regional art and decor ✔ Hand sewn pillows and upholstered headboards ✔ Bidets and touchless soap dispensers ✔ Propane BBQ grill ✔ Firepit ✔ Self check-in keypad

It is also proximal to multiple charming Catskill villages (Roxbury, Stamford, Hobart, Margaretville, Andes, Delhi), great hikes, state parks, restaurants, coffee shops, farmers markets, and antique vendors. In addition, the 26-mile Catskills Scenic Trail is easily accessed at the base of the entrance road (xc skiing, biking, etc). Come back to experience the magic of different seasons!

This is our third visit and we plan to return again. The house is so beautiful and has absolutely everything you need for a comfortable stay. The most peaceful view on the front porch overlooking a mountain and on a snowy day there is nothing more perfect. The hosts are super responsive and always accommodate everything we need. Highly recommend this home!
My husband and I loved our stay. The area is beautiful and quiet and our favorite part of the place was sitting on the front porch enjoying the views. We visited several farmers markets in the area and used our purchases to make a few meals as well. There's also plenty to do in the area within 30 or so minutes.
The property was a very cool concept, super clean and a modern build. Owner was very welcoming and communicative. Definitely suggest staying at this VRBO is you are in this area, would be great for multiple couples or family members.
If we are back in the area, we will definitely stay again!
We had a great time! The house and view of the mountains was beautiful and was exactly what we expected. Joshua was a great host and responded quickly to questions. Highly recommend!
We loved our stay! You can tell this is the owner’s second home that is lovingly cared for and decorated. The directions made it easy to find, check in very easy, and the house was exactly as pictured. The loft is a very cool room! There is a ton of activities to do for fun that unfortunately we ran out of time to enjoy. A+

Thanks so much Alexander for the positive feedback! We love that you noticed many of the personal touches, and felt inspired in the loft! You are welcome back anytime : )
This home was meticulously decorated & stunning-pictures do not do this home justice. The little touches make is so special. Will most definitely return
The cabin fit 7 guys for a golf trip with no issues. The Property Managers were very quick to reply with an issue and it was solved in a timely manner and they still compensated us for the issue. I had great communication with them during our entire stay. We all enjoyed our stay at this cabin and beautiful property.
Awesome cabin that clearly had a lot of thought, time, and effort put into the design. It was cozy, comfortable, and spacious enough for everyone to enjoy their own space. The pool and the view were definite highlights, giving us the chance to fully relax — floating around under the stars was such a treat.I do wish there had been a mention upfront about the limited Wi-Fi, and the AC didn’t work very well. A minisplit upgrade like the one in the loft could really help. Still, the cabin has so much charm, and overall it was a wonderful stay.If you have issues or questions you get instant replies and help right away! Super nice people and you can tell they just want you to enjoy your experience.
I booked the Hirox for a special restorative women’s wellness retreat centered around slowing down and immersing ourselves in the beautiful fall colors and mountain views. This place was absolutely perfect. Everything was clean, the kitchen so well stocked, and it was truly obvious how much thought and intention went into designing this lovely home. Joshua was so helpful in planning our weekend and was extremely responsive all the way through the booking process and our stay. I would absolutely recommend the Hirox to anyone looking for a quiet place and I would absolutely return myself for another respite in the future.
This is our second time staying at the Hirox property. The house is beautiful, well stocked with everything you would need and more, and the surrounding mountains and forest is the ideal place to get away and relax. Two major ski resorts within 30 min distance makes this the absolute perfect place to stay. The hosts are the most conscientious, responsive and caring people that I have ever encountered in my entire history of renting. We had snow storms, wind storms and tons of questions and not only did they respond immediately with solutions, but they did it while being on their own vacation. This will be our home away from home and we look forward to visiting many more times in the future.
Our stay at the Hirox was lovely. It was me and 3 other friends on a weekend away from NYC. The house is definitely off the grid, on a nice chunk of land. It is really an open layout with bright light. The pool made for some nice relaxation in the sun and the movie room was a great added touch for some hanging post land exploration. The host was super responsive and great to deal with.
We came on a friends’ trip and were so happy with our stay. The place was very tidy, the pantry was stocked, and the property was so beautiful. The walk up to the rock formations is easy (we wore Tevas and were fine, but sneakers would’ve been better) and worth it for the peaceful vibes and super trippy moss. The pool was great, lots of towels were provided and we appreciated that a ton. The annex is also really cozy and those who slept there said it was awesome and a bathroom would make it perfect. We all loved our stay, and Joshua was communicative and friendly. Thank you for a lovely weekend!

Thank you so much Jess for the lovely review! We are so happy you enjoyed the unique natural features of the property, the pool, and the Annex : )
We'd love to have you all back another time as the Hirox is uniquely magical in each season. Thanks again!
My family and I loved our stay at the Hirox Chalet! Joshua and Tanya were quick to respond to any questions or requests I had. I found that the home was well thought out and had just about anything we needed for the weekend. All of the instructions I was given were clear and easy to follow and made for a seamless trip. I loved the little things like the touchless soap dispensers and the bidets on each toilet. I hope to be back someday.
An unfortunate illness prevented us from completing this trip.We were, however, in constant contact with the owners who were wonderful. They were very accommodating. We look forward to staying with them in the near future and will tell our friends about them and their property.

We recently had a wonderful stay at the Hirox! It was more breathtaking than the photos!
Tanya and Josh provided excellent guidance leading up to and during the visit.
There was abundant space inside the cabin and the grounds. Moreover, the local townships offered some adventurous get-a-ways.
We were able to unwind and rejuvenate completely, and leave city life in the distance. There was nothing like morning views from the porch swings, forest walks, easily grilling meals and warm rustic comfort.
We look forward to our next visit very soon!
Amazing cabin. We used everything - the solo stove fire pit, made dinner, had a movie night, and had cocktails on the porch swing while admiring the impressive view. The house was well stocked and super comfortable. It was just the wife and me so we decided to sleep up in the loft - waking up to the light through the skylights was perfect. The owners made the EV charger available to us too which was super helpful. We have a Tesla and have a J1772 to Tesla adapter so it worked out great. Would definitely rent again.
Our stay at Josh and Tanya’s was wonderful. The home was very clean and well kept. Josh was always available and timely with his responses.
Josh and Tanya were kind enough to let us have our small wedding ceremony here, and to say it was perfect would be an understatement. The grounds were beautifully kept, the home impeccable and the overall feeling of the weekend was marvelous. They were so accommodating, truly some of the nicest people/hosts we have had the pleasure of booking with. We will definitely be staying here again in the future, anniversary plans are already being talked about. It is so special that we were able to have our wedding in such a beautiful home!
The most relaxing time I’ve had in a while. The cabin is even better in person than described. Fully stocked, warm furniture, secluded, incredible views and very private. Had coffee on the wrap around porch while watching deer visit. It’s about 30 min from Belleayer, Ski Reaort which we loved to be away from all the hustle after a full day of skiing. Owners were absolutely fantastic and went above and beyond to provide house instructions as well as surrounding area restaurants and grocery store recommendations….. and left chilled beer mugs in the freezer. Have not seen this level of attention in a long time. Plan on visiting this beautiful home and area in the future.
Refined getaway with thoughtful personal touches in a beautiful setting!
The house was more secluded and elegant than we expected. The hosts were so welcoming and informative leading up to our stay, with well written instructions for everything we needed to know about the house and making the stay comfortable. They literally thought of everything, down to books to enjoy on the porch, blankets to curl up in front of the stove, wood and blankets for the fire pit, games, special glassware for dinners, makeup towels, unique touches with lighting and artwork. The space really felt like a home and not a rental space. We felt like personal guests with everything you would need for a getaway in a stunning area! Nearby towns had everything to offer: cafes, coffee shops, shopping, art galleries, farmers markets and even craft festivals. We already want to book a return trip to explore more :-) Can’t recommend it enough
We had a fantastic stay at the Hirox. Joshua kept in contact well before our arrival in order to pre-heat the residence, which was a very lovely and personable touch. You can tell that Joshua really cares for this property and for the guests that stay in it. The pictures were quite accurate, including the beautiful views from the balcony!
The kitchen was stocked with spices and basics like olive oil, which made cooking meals so much easier for us.
The bedrooms were very much as advertised and clean bedsheets + linens were ready for us and in stock. Showering was hassle-free!
Joshua is an excellent host, offering an incredible property in a secluded location with close access to at least 3 ski resorts. 5 stars all around and I hope to return soon!

About the host
Hosted by Joshua Foss
What makes this property unique
The Hirox was built in 1990 as the original owner’s dream cabin. He filled the space with novelties (including an indoor hot tub, full house intercom, and central vacuum system) and built a massive 4-car garage with a fully finished woodshop above. He also general contracted the construction of the cabin, overseeing the setting of each framing log which were planed on site. The upkeep of the cabin however got away from him in his elder years, with nature’s elements taking a heavy toll on the roof, deck, and exterior logs.
In step Joshua and Tanya in the summer of 2021, who looked past this disrepair and saw a gem needing some TLC and creative attention. Long yearning for a refuge upstate, they educated themselves on all things log cabin (like how to fend off pesky carpenter bees) and dove headfirst into modernization efforts. The two of them took on virtually every aspect of the renovation, including rebuilding the kitchen, adding new flooring and paint to walls and cabinets, cleaning and weatherproofing the exterior logs, reviving the pool, converting the garage loft into a comfortable bonus space, and installing close to 2,000 sq ft of new Trex decking (+ 2k linear feet of cable rail!). Each decision was consciously made to consider durability, functionality, and sustainability. Many items were creatively repurposed, such as an old kitchen island being reused for the kitchen peninsula, and old deck boards being stained and reused as the top rail. The result of this effort is an ever-evolving space that is infused with personal touches.
