About this property
Family-friendly, sunny holiday home with pool, splendid views and solar power
NEW FROM OCTOBER 2022: SOLAR POWER PLUS BATTERY BACKUP!
Don´t be annoyed any more by the frequent power cuts ("load shedding") because you are independent!
This house, which was completely renovated in September 2017, is located in Hout Bay, a fishing harbour with a wonderful sandy beach and great infrastructure, a mere 20 minutes from Cape Town and half an hour away from the airport. Facing north, the property guarantees many hours of sunshine, so hop into the private pool to cool off! The brand new furniture together with the stylish large-scale pictures contribute to an airy and laid-back atmosphere.
Good news for guests with children: Our household is well equipped with two baby cots, two high chairs, a baby rug, toys for inside oustide including a plastic scooter for the winding walkways in the garden, an inflatable splash pool, swimming aids, and, last but not least, a toilet training seat.
For a combination of work and vacation the high-speed glass fibre internet connetion will be useful which also allows internation videoconferencing. And to make sure you don´t lose contact in case of a power cut ("load shedding"), an inverter is available which provides power to the router from a battery.
Should you visit in winter, you may use the underfloor heating to get comfy (excess electricity to be paid at rate charged to us).
The house is situated in a quiet cul de sac in a friendly and open neighbourhood. Park your rental car (recommended) in the garage with automatic door opener. Sitting on the generously sized patio you have a fantastic view of the last of the "Twelve Apostles", a mountain range which extends from the famous Table Mountain to the south. Don’t miss the sunset!
Don´t worry about the much-publicized water shortage. Since pool and garden receive water from rainwater storage tanks, the amount of drinking water allotted by the city suffices for all needs.
There is so much to do and to see. You are just five minutes away from the famous Chapman’s Peak Drive, one of the most spectacular coastal roads in the world. Drive further and you will reach the Cape of Good Hope.
To see the sights of Cape Town take the Hop-on-hop-off Tourbus which has several stops in Hout Bay. A more direct route is a trip on MyCityBus, an excellent public transport service taking you into the heart of the Mother City. Further attractions such as the pengiun colony of Simonstown (kids love Boulders Beach where you can swim with the penguins) or whalewatching in Hermanus are easily reached by car. Activities for children include a visit to Africa’s largest Bird Park „World of Birds“, enjoying a meal in one of the many child-friendly restaurants with playgrounds, painting your personal cup in the Clay Café, a boat ride to Duiker Island to see the seals, or lazing on the wide beach – all of which are situated right here in Hout Bay!
You will find all kinds of shops in Hout Bay, and you can walk to many of them. Hout Bay boasts four supermarkets, several pharmacies, a book shop, fashion stores and many more. Don’t miss the fish shops in the harbour where you can buy the catch of the day for prices unheard of in Europe!
And if you feel like eating out just choose from the numerous restaurants offering meals ranging from simple to classy – „classy“ describing the quality not the price.
Again, don’t miss the fish restaurants at the beach, just a three minute drive from your holiday home. We are confident that you will feel at home here and will fully enjoy your stay in SA.

About the host
Hosted by Claudia Crisci
My husband Thomas and I have been regular and enthusiastic visitors to Cape Town for more than 20 years. In January 2015, we fulfilled a long held wish for our lives after work and bought a house of our own in Hout Bay. We are spending about half of the year in our new home, and spend the rest in Europe, much of it in Germany where our six children and six grandchildren live.
Why they chose this property
For many years, we rented a holiday apartment in spectacular Llandudno, the next village on the way to Cape Town. Since there is no infrastructure (shops, banks, pharmacies etc.) available there, we decided to look for a home in lively Hout Bay, which has all of the above and much more. We have not regretted it a single day!
What makes this property unique
The on-line advertisement for 17 Norman Street with the red Bougainvillea in front of the Greek-style white house immediately attracted us. When we saw it first in January 2015, we immediately fell in love with this sun-lit, friendly house. In spite of the apparent need for renovation, we new that we would love to live in it - and we do!
