About this property

Gîte des Gervais - BRAY

Josette and Albert (retired winegrower who operated the small family estate that occupied the premises) welcome you to a charming authentic 19th century winegrower's house - adorned with a traditional "Mâconnaise gallery" - entirely revisited as a soothing holiday home, perched "on a balcony" and "panoramic belvedere", on a hillside on a well-exposed west-facing slope, within a mini rural hamlet (both residential and agricultural) a stone's throw from the heart of the typical village of Bray (housing an elegant listed Romanesque church, built in the 11th century, former deanery of Cluny). Peace and quiet, nestled on the edge of the vineyards beneath the wooded ridges of a small forest, overlooking a vast plateau of hedged meadows (home to horses and, in season, peaceful Charolais cows) and the verdant Grosne Valley, in the heart of the gently rolling Cluny countryside, on the edge of the Haut Mâconnais region (largely protected as a Natura 2000 site and ZNIEFF area for its rich fauna and flora). A magnificent, unspoiled landscape surrounds the property, offering sublime panoramas and viewpoints (perfect for exploring on invigorating walks or mountain bike rides), combining viticulture, agriculture, and the great outdoors, between bucolic pastures, vineyard slopes, and vast, wild national forests. A spacious and very comfortable gîte. A warm, rustic charm. A truly unique atmosphere reminiscent of a traditional rural home. Fully equipped. A lovely, large, sheltered balcony overlooks a spacious, intimate courtyard, transformed into a large terrace (with varying degrees of sun and shade), nestled at the foot of a majestic, historic courtyard flanked by elegant stone columns (remnants of the former vineyard, which still houses some vats). A pleasant, landscaped garden, adorned with a beautiful magnolia tree, lies at the foot of the house and offers superb, unobstructed views of the surrounding countryside, with sublime sunsets as a bonus. Composition: Semi-detached village house (on a former small family vineyard, some vats of which remain in the courtyard). Wi-Fi (fiber optic). Oil-fired central heating. The apartment is on the first floor (accessed via an external staircase). It comprises a living room/kitchen, a living/dining room, two bedrooms (each with a double bed 140x190cm), a shower room, and a separate WC. Sheltered balcony + courtyard terrace + garden (100m²) + private parking. Mini-market 7.5 km. All amenities including supermarkets 11 km. Charming authentic traditional 19th century winemaker's house fully restored overlooking "from a balcony" a vast plateau of meadows, nestled in peace and quiet on the edge of vineyards 7.5 km from Taizé (& its famous religious community) and 10 km from the illustrious world-renowned abbey city of Cluny (one of the most beautiful pearls of Burgundy, endowed with the prestigious "European Heritage" label / all amenities on site including supermarkets and a rich level of sports & leisure facilities). Magnificent landscape setting and total tranquility, nestled on a hillside in a mini rural hamlet adjoining the heart of a typical small village, in the gentle hilly Cluny countryside (largely protected as a "Natura 2000 Zone" and ZNIEFF for its remarkable ecosystems), on the edge of the Haut Mâconnais, in the heart of a sublime preserved setting of nature & greenery combining bucolic hedgerows, vineyards and beautiful wild forests, adjoining the verdant Grosne valley in the very heart of the South Burgundy massif (wild & protected). An exceptionally privileged location on the Romanesque churches circuit and various marked hiking trails, including a "green walk" (a very extensive network of similar hiking trails crisscrossing the area, suitable for walking or mountain biking), not far from the "Burgundy Wine Route" (which extends into the "Great Wines Route"), 3.5 km from the Green Way of the "Great Loop of Southern Burgundy", 4 km from the "Cycloroute71" (Tour of Saône-et-Loire by bike), 5 km from the renowned GTM mountain bike circuit, certified "FFC Mountain Biking" (Grand Tour of the Southern Burgundy Massif connected to a vast network of identical routes crisscrossing the massif in a "star" pattern), 10 km from the GR76 (adjacent to the historic "Monks' Way" which once linked the abbeys of Cîteaux and Cluny, as well as the famous GR of the "ViaCluny"), 19 km from the track of The renowned mountain bike descent of Mont Saint-Romain, 19 km of a signposted cycle route connecting to the Green Way of the famous Canal du Centre (a route also worth exploring on a relaxing boat trip), alongside the EuroVelo 6 cycle route and the "Tour de Bourgogne à Vélo" cycle route, and 23 km of the Voie Bleue (Blue Way) along the Saône River. Located in the heart of the vineyards of the Haut Mâconnais and the Tournugeois-Clunisois (designated a "Land of Art and History"), at the crossroads of the Chalonnais (with the nearby Côtes Chalonnaises) and the Bresse Bourguignonne. A prime location for exploring all of Southern Burgundy: 6.5 km from the Blanot Caves, 11 km from the Azé Caves, 13 km from the medieval town of Brancion, 17 km from the medieval village of Saint-Gengoux-le-National (a designated "Town of Character of Burgundy-Franche-Comté"), 17 km from Lugny ("the small capital of the Haut-Mâconnais," home to the first winery producing Burgundy wines and a renowned treetop adventure park), 23 km from Tournus, 29 km from Pont de Vaux (river marina on the Saône), 29 km from Mâcon (Mâcon Loché TGV station 31 km away), 31 km from the magnificent landscape of the Roche de Solutré & Vergisson, a designated "Grand Site de France," 42 km from Charolles, 40 km from Chalon-sur-Saône (designated a "City of Art and History"), 51 km from Louhans (historical capital of Bresse) and 53 km from Vonnas (gastronomic village of Georges Blanc), is a truly unique and historic destination. A refreshing escape for a peaceful breath of fresh air in the countryside, with the added bonus of exceptional sunsets!
