"Amazing place to stay, super clean, very well stocked, easy to communicate with Kara. We rented all units except the event space as our group did not need it. Everyone had a great time, and we will return next year. It was terrific for the grandkids to be able to walk to nearby shops and get ice cream. The rooftop patio is perfect for group dining, games, and s'mores... Perfect in every way!” –Vicki

“I can’t sing the Barn Burner’s praises enough! This place is perfect! So well thought out. Everything you could need is there! All of the beds are extremely comfy! The design is PERFECT! It’s the perfect place to travel with a large group. We spent lots of time on the rooftop patio eating meals, playing games, and hanging out. We went for a staff retreat, and every person that was there was sad to leave...and asking if we could come back next year for our retreat!” –Maddie

“Barn Burner was perfect for our family girls’ trip to Little Nashville. We wanted something with plenty of room for our multi-family getaway. This location perfectly fits what we needed with the four separate units and the shared rooftop patio. We spent each night around the fire enjoying the beautiful weather and making memories. It was so nice being right in town and walking to all the shops and restaurants. I would definitely recommend Barn Burner as a wonderful location for any groups or families looking to stay in Nashville!” –Maria

"I liked that each family had a separate space to stay. We loved the outdoor area on the second floor where all of the family gathered... We could easily walk to all the shops in town. It was very quiet in the evenings. It was safe for our little guy who was 18 months old." –Diane

“One extended family of 20 needed a place to celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary near Nashville. The Barn Burner was the PERFECT space and location. The rooftop patio with the fire pit was a huge hit. We'll definitely be booking another stay here!” –Lance

We rented all 4 units for a team meeting. The space was excellent. The rooftop was perfect for our group meeting & the separate units with multiple beds/baths gave everyone enough space/privacy. We were all impressed with how well stocked all the units were - plenty of utensils, plates, cookware, bath towels, makeup wash cloths, the list goes on! I have a feeling this space will get requested again for a future meeting! Thank you so much! We all enjoyed our stay!

A What a fantastic venue! My wife and I celebrated 50 years of marriage and we had our 5 kids and grandkids meet in Nashville IN to celebrate. The Barn Burner was the perfect setting for us and completely met our needs. Kara and Clint were our hosts and Kara ensured that our stay was great. She is a great communicator and provided information about things-to-do in Nashville and the surrounding area. The Barn Burner facility was amazing. Each of the 4 apartments were fully furnished and equiped with everything, and I mean everything, that you might need during your stay. The spacious patio area was a favorite spot for all of us to hang out. We all highly recommend this place for family gatherings!

We booked the Barn Burner for an 80th birthday celebration. Kara was great support for our trip and all the units were very well equipped to accommodate our family of all ages. And the event space was great for our family meals and gathering. We would highly recommend the Brown County Barn Burner!

Lovely

The Barnburner is a fantastic place for a large family gathering in Brown County Indiana. Our family stayed two days and celebrated our early Christmas. The owners are so easy to work with. We will definitely be recommending the Barnburner to family and friends. Very close to all the shops and restaurants.

Convenient to Nashville

I liked that each family had a separate space to stay. We loved the outdoor area on the second floor where all of the family gathered. It was so nice at night because the little lights all came on & we lit the gas flame burner. We could easily walk to all the shops in town. It was very quiet in the evenings. It was safe for our little guy who was 18 months old.

We had a wonderful stay at the Barn Burner. It is a perfect set up for a family or friend group who wants to spend time together , but also enjoy some privacy, as there are 4 connected units of various sizes, which share a rooftop deck. The accommodations were nice, with clean and plentiful kitchen necessities, towels, beds, blankets, etc. The fire pit was great and the roof top deck was terrific for group meals. The hosts were incredibly responsive and helpful, both with respect to questions about the property and recommendations for restaurants and flower shops in the area. The location was centrally located in Nashville with many shops and stores within walking distance and Bloomington/ IU a 20 minute drive away. We were grateful to be able to gather in such a lovely space to celebrate our son's IU graduation and we would definitely return to the Barn Burner and recommend it!

About the host

Hosted by Kara Hammes

Host profile image
Hi - we're Kara and Clint, and we designed and built the Barn Burner from the ground up in 2020. We opened in November 2020 and have loved hosted hundreds of groups and thousands of guests since then.

We moved to Brown County in 2016 with our two daughters, looking for a slower pace and a life that felt a little like vacation every day, and we truly love this town we now call home.

I grew up taking two-week summer road trips with my family, and my mom was the one who made it all happen. Now I'm the mom, I'm the planner, and I get it - the person putting the trip together and planning everything doesn't always get to sit back and enjoy it.

So that's why we built the Barn Burner - we couldn't find a space that made group travel easy, so we made one. I answer every message myself, write a local travel blog called "Tanglewood Hideaway" to share the best of Brown County with others, and we'd love to host you soon!

Why they chose this property

The Barn Burner sits at the corner of Jefferson and Washington Streets in downtown Nashville, Indiana - a few blocks off the main strip, so you're not in the middle of the crowds, but everything is still an easy walk away: locally owned shops, art galleries, restaurants, coffee shops, and more. And you're less than five minutes from the Brown County State Park by car when you want to get out of town and explore the hills, trails, and views Brown County is known for.

What makes this property unique

The entire Barn Burner can sleep up to 29 across four completely independent units, each with its own kitchen, living room, laundry, and private entrance, all in one building, with a rooftop patio and gas fire table connecting them.

Everyone gets their own space, and nobody has to drive anywhere to be together. The early risers make coffee in their own kitchen. The night owls stay up on the roof. The family with the toddler puts him to bed without shushing anyone.

There's also an on-site Event Space you can add to your booking when your group needs room for a big meal, a retreat session, or a rehearsal dinner.

We built the Barn Burner like this because we travel with big groups of family and friends all the time, and we knew what was missing. There's nowhere else in Brown County that can house a group this size unless it's a hotel - most rentals here top out around ten people - and we're proud of this one-of-a-kind space that was designed specifically for groups and families to enjoy.
