We enjoyed our stay here! Check in was very easy and we appreciated the recommendations from the hosts. The outdoor bathroom was a unique change. We would stay here again!
Hannah and Tanner were super quick to respond with information that was needed, and super helpful. The location was so fun being in the jungle, and it was minutes away from downtown Hilo. We loved our stay here!
The three nights and two days we stayed in the jungle were marvelous. The outdoor facilities were exquisite and beyond our expectations. The coqui symphony lulled us to sleep in the most comfortable of beds. The fan provided an aggressive yet tolerable breeze. We did not meet Hannah, but she made our checkin seamless. Thank you for a great stay.
We loved our stay in the jungle room! The suite was clean and comfortable and we had no trouble falling asleep to the sound of coqui frogs each night. The hosts were so kind and generously let us use the bbq and the small prep kitchen space next door which we appreciated for making light meals. Overall we had an amazing 6 nights in Hilo snorkelling, visiting botanical gardens and enjoying the restaurants and shops downtown. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend this suite!
We stayed at three different places during our trip on the big island and this is absolutely our favorite! I love waking up to the smell of the plants and flowers right outside the room. Despite the bathroom is half outdoor but you still have enough privacy. Hannah is easy to reach whenever we have questions. Highly recommend✨
Great stay in Hilo. Hosts were so attentive and helpful and very flexible with my last minute trip extended stay. The room was clean, quiet, private, close to town and the University. Loved the outdoor shower for the full island experience will stay here again.
This was a return visit. First, location: quiet and private but just a few minutes to downtown. Second, vibes: just one room but a beautifully secluded rain forest lanai with an open air bath. Finally, personality: not your average room to let, with a friendly, welcoming and conscientious host. 10/10.
If we could give more than 5 stars, we would! Hannah and Tanner are lovely, incredibly thoughtful hosts with great communication. They made us feel so welcome and appreciated, and let us know when the volcano was erupting so we made it in time to see it.We loved the outdoor bathroom and being so close to nature. Cute tiny frogs come out at night (remember ear plugs if you're a light sleeper).Great location a few minutes drive from downtown Hilo, yet tucked away in the jungle, peaceful and private. We had the best time and would definitely stay here again!
We absolutely loved our stay and wish we could have stayed longer! The location is within walking distance of the centre of town and the neighbourhood is simply beautiful. The view of the rainforest gully is breath-taking and relaxing. We had everything we needed and could want fo4 our stay. The hosts were lovely (especially the friendly dog, who was a highlight) and helpful.
Hannah was GREAT! She gave us great information about check in, where to park, everything we needed. The place was super clean. We stayed at 5 different location while we were in Hawaii, and this was our favorite by far. Place was exactly what was described. If you don’t mind the sounds of nature, and a Great outside bathroom, which we loved, this is the place to stay in the Hilo area. If you want to visit the volcano, Hilo area, and only have two people this is the place to stay. Thanks again Hannah for allowing Karen and I stay at your awesome Jungle Retreat.
We loved staying at the Jungle view bedroom VRBO and “jungle” is no exaggeration. You feel as if you’re completely surrounded by gorgeous tropical Hawaiian greenery. The outside sitting area was a great place to enjoy morning coffee and listen to all the birdsongs surrounded by palms and countless other trees and flowering plants. It’s also located very close to town which was convenient. Hannah and Tanner are gracious and welcoming hosts and we enjoyed meeting them. 5 stars all the way!
Comfortable and unique room and amenities, paired with interesting neighborhood in close proximity to downtown. Host knew we were keen to try new restaurants and had lots of good recommendations for us. Great communication from booking through check-in and out. Bonus for showing us the common laundry and supply room. Loved the location overlooking the tropical setting. Been to Hilo before, but this was by far the best visit.

Quiet lovely property. Hannah the owner was very accommodating and helpful with times/locations of local markets. The lack of air conditioning (in the room I was in, the other two do have ac) was not an issue as the evenings/mornings were cool and the bird sounds and fragrant flower smells were a treat. Need a car to access.

Hannah and Tanner’s property was really cosy and allowed us to soak in the atmosphere of staying near a jungle. Prior to our check in, Hannah reached out and provided detailed instructions on how to locate the property.
Everything was very well thought out and the laundry room was a real bonus! The day before check out, Hannah even notified that we could have a later checkout if necessary so we don’t need to rush. My wife and I were very appreciative of the kind gesture.
Both Hannah and Tanner are really friendly folks and we will certainly look to stay again if we are back in Hilo!
It was just what I needed. Some were quiet and secluded. Loved the coqui frogs.
I love that it was not to far from Hilo but it seemed like it was on another island. It took me one night to get used to the bathroom because I wasn't sure if anyone was around. The shower was perfect and I love my showers. I loved the stillness of the place. I got to chat with one of the owner and he was so welcoming. I got to have my morning coffee at a drive through which I much enjoyed... no cleaning up. (As suggested by the owner). I would love to stay again but maybe a bit longer. Thank you for sharing a part of yourself with me. I appreciate the kindness so much.
I loved this location. You have the option of AC, but I never used it, being quite comfortable with the breeze from the open windows looking out over the tropical valley behind the property. Falling asleep to the coqui frogs and the soft sounds of rain was rejuvenating. I loved walking into Hilo in the mornings, too, for a delicious breakfast at the Booch, before heading out on my excursions to the nearby sites. The hosts are also incredibly kind, friendly, and gracious. I would love to stay here again if I returned to the big island. **Also, with the housing crisis on the island, I wasn't sure about staying in a VRBO, but the owners rent only a part of the property and live nearby (but removed from the unit). This went a long ways towards assuaging my conscience on that score.

I grew up in a small town in Minnesota, attended college at UW Seattle, and now am out enjoying the island life in Hawaii! My partner Tanner and I love going off adventuring with our mountain dog Soula. Most of our time is spent outside exploring new places and forcing our nap happy doggo to exercise.
