Experience the peace and serenity of days-gone-by when you stay in this spacious, completely renovated four-square farmhouse located in a quiet dairy farming neighborhood, five miles east of Cumberland and ten miles west of Rice Lake. This home is perfect for family gatherings, crafting get-togethers or relaxing vacations. Enjoy watching the bird activity in the massive oak trees as you sip your morning coffee on the beautiful front porch. Both children and adults will enjoy outdoor activities in the expansive back yard, surrounded by crops in the field and cows in the pasture. In the winter try cross-country skiing or snowshoeing through the fields and woods.

You will enjoy preparing meals in the spacious modern country kitchen with large center island. Relax in the large open living room with its media center, then sleep peacefully retiring to the large bedrooms and comfortable queen beds.

Beautiful clear water lakes are plentiful just minutes from the farm for boating, fishing, and swimming. This farmhouse evoked memories of my grandparents farmhouse with the exception that this one has all the amenities you need for a pleasant stay.. All rooms are comfortably sized, especially the kitchen and living room. The porch has very comfortable furniture and introduces you to the serenity of being in a rural setting. We keep coming back.

We had a lovely stay at the Farmhouse! It was very clean and the host was incredibly welcoming. The home is well-maintained , and what you would expect from an 100 year old family farm. The beds were comfortable and rooms were spacious, we appreciated the ample number of games that were available. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a quiet stay in the Cumberland or Rice Lake area. Only negative was that there was a water drinking advisory due to high nitrate levels that could have been communicated better. We found the warning inside the guest binder, but would have appreciated advanced notice so that we could better prepared and bring gallons of water. It wasn’t a deal-breaker for us, but something to look out for if you have children in your group.

So happy that you enjoyed your stay. Regarding the water situation, water that registers nitrates above 10mg/L is considered above recommended levels. The last two samples at the Farmhouse were rated at 10 and 9.8., so the water is safe. However, we are installing a filter to resolve any concerns. Thanks for your comments.

Diane was very responsive with communication and excellent to work with. The house was exactly what we were looking for. Had ample room to visit with family, play games at the kitchen table and hang out in the living room. The house was clean and we loved the winter scenery! Great place to go when needing to "run away from life" to relax. Hostess was very pleasant and helpful. House was very well supplied with anything you might need or want, loved the kitchen. Would definitely stay again if needing a place in the area.

The Farmhouse Retreat was a wonderful place for our annual family gathering. We enjoyed the house and its history as well as the beautiful, serene property. This immaculately kept farmhouse offers a quiet and relaxing experience while situated in a beautiful rural setting. It is spacious with 4 large bedrooms, and a fully equipped kitchenkitchen. The farmhouse pays homage to the generations that lived there. I would highly recommend staying there.

Why they chose this property

This farm has been in my family since 1891 when my grandparents purchased the land from the Knapp-Stout Lumber Company. They cleared the land, built the farm, raised their family, and it has been the center of family activity since those days. In 2008 my husband and I completely renovated the house, inside and out, and it has since continued to provide the perfect gathering place for family and friends. We now would like to share this special place with you with the hope that you will enjoy your time in this special place as much as our family.
